25.01.2022 One of the most common problems which can affect the legs and feet, particularly in older people, is varicose vein disease. Various challenges can get in the way of older people getting the diagnosis they need. Some may not realise the pain, swelling, and other symptoms are caused by a treatable condition. Some seniors may be reluctant to admit that their mobility is declining and are now less able to get themselves to the medical help they need. Others may have lack of finances, or no family or health advocate to support and check in on them. If someone you care about is experiencing symptoms that could be related to untreated varicose veins, you could play an important role in helping them to get some relief.
25.01.2022 If its the small blueish veins around your eye areas you find yourself wanting to conceal each day, look into periorbital vein treatment. At Vein Health (Part of Paras Clinic) - this non-invasive treatment involves an intradermal injection of a Sclerosant (Sodium Tetradecyl Sulphate or Polidocanol) into the affected veins. This causes the veins to collapse and harden, a process known as sclerosis. Once the veins have hardened, the body will absorb the degraded tissue over the next three to six weeks, leaving the skin blemish-free. Find out more - https://rfr.bz/fhx9db
24.01.2022 We love how these before and after shots really show what a difference treatment can make. You can see the bumpy varicose veins on the inner leg before treatment (left pic). These protruding and painful veins wrap around the patients leg and up the back of the knee. In the after picture (right), you can see that following treatment with Endovenous Laser Ablation, Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy, and Modified Ambulatory Phlebectomy, the leg is now smooth.
24.01.2022 Here's an example of the complications which can present with chronic venous disease. This 60-year-old patient came to us with significant left lower leg hyperpigmentation and swelling due to chronic venous disease. It had been gradually deteriorating for many years and it was incorrectly managed with topical steroids. When he came to see us, we identified the underlying problem via a duplex ultrasound. The main source of reflux was from the Great Saphenous Vein. We treated with Endovenous Laser Ablation of the Great Saphenous Vein and Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy of the tributaries was performed over several visits. After a long ongoing healing process, the patient is happy with his progress and will continue to see us for regular reviews and scans.

23.01.2022 Our 36-year-old patient came to the clinic with swelling and discomfort from varicose veins of the lower-left leg. We treated her leg with Endovenous Laser Ablation, Ambulatory Phlebectomy, and Ultrasound Guided Foam Sclerotherapy. Her results can be seen in this photo 12-months after treatment. Smaller reticular veins and spider veins will be treated with sclerotherapy.
23.01.2022 This 58-year-old patient came to the clinic with spider veins (telangiectasia) on outer and inner thighs. Dr Paraskevas treated the veins with Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy and Direct Vision Sclerotherapy. After 12 months signs of the condition have resolved very well. 22.01.2022 This patient (75 years of age) had been struggling with painful calf varicose veins and swelling for a long time. She experienced heaviness, discomfort, restless legs, tiredness, and lower leg fatigue. After diagnosing the cause, we treated with Endovenous Laser Ablation and Ambulatory Phlebectomy. We’ve reviewed during last 5 years; this recent photo illustrates resolution of varicose veins and swelling/congestion. She reports no symptoms and is satisfied with her results.
22.01.2022 This 42-year-old mother of 3, presented with large and tortuous varicose veins that extended from the upper inner thigh into the lower inner leg. We took a comprehensive medical history of the patient. She revealed that the varicose veins would throb and feel uncomfortable and she was experiencing tiredness, restlessness, and night cramps in the leg. The patient was not only concerned about the aesthetics of the varicose vein problem but the medical issues that could arise fr...om it. We treated with EVLA (Endovenous Laser Ablation) and UGS (Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy), followed by MAP (Modified Ambulatory Phlebectomy). The pic on the right was taken 23 months post-treatment. The leg will continue to improve aesthetically but the patient is already extremely happy with the overall relief of her symptoms. She no longer has pain or discomfort in the lower leg and has reported an increase in her exercise capacity.
22.01.2022 Many jobs can worsen the painful condition of varicose veins in people with a family history of venous disease because of prolonged standing such as hairdressing, traffic control, teaching, retail, and hospitality work. While some jobs requiring prolonged sitting also aggravated the condition. Read more: https://www.veinhealth.com.au/could-your-job-be-causing-yo/
21.01.2022 Spider veins - do they go away by themselves? https://www.veinhealth.com.au/will-spider-veins-go-away/
21.01.2022 In this article, we debunk the most widespread myth about varicose veins, explaining whether your crossed legs are really doing the damage, how varicose veins are formed, and what treatments are available to rid you of them. Read more https://lttr.ai/Mh1C
20.01.2022 Why the myth has occurred in the first place has to do with the pressure upon the blood vessels in the legs, with the assumption that once the pressure is applied, the veins expand. https://lttr.ai/Prj1
19.01.2022 Spider veins are often a flow-on effect of varicose veins in nearby blood vessels. When the damaged section of vein (varicose vein) fills with blood and swells to its capacity, the overflow of blood creates tiny spider veins close to the skin. This is why it is important to treat the underlying cause, and not just the spider veins that can be seen on the skin surface.
19.01.2022 Our 66-year-old patient was suffering from prominent left lower leg capillary clusters with heaviness and tiredness in the leg. She had received treatment elsewhere using surface sclerotherapy alone and noticed the veins were worse afterward. The patient was never given an ultrasound to check for underlying varicose veins that could be feeding it. Patients should always receive a diagnostic duplex ultrasound to rule out abnormal veins that may be feeding surface veins. A dup...lex ultrasound revealed an underlying great saphenous vein feeding the surface veins. The great saphenous vein was treated using Endovenous Laser Ablation and surface veins were treated with Ultrasound-Guided and Direct Vision Sclerotherapy. These are her results at 13 months. The surface and saphenous veins have been completely and permanently treated. The patient was extremely satisfied with her results. See more
19.01.2022 The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) global pandemic has resulted in elective surgeries and interventions in hospitals being postponed in many countries around the world, including here in Australia, to divert those resources to managing the pandemic. However, the treatment of venous disease is important and must not be overlooked.
19.01.2022 We treated this 50-year-old patient with direct vision sclerotherapy to the periorbital vein. The after pic on the right was taken just seconds after the treatment. Learn more about periorbital vein treatment: http://rfr.bz/fbke5q
19.01.2022 This 40-year-old patient returned for her 14-month followup, recently. She originally came to us with a history of varicose veins, but they had become worse following two pregnancies. We treated her veins with Endovenous Laser Ablation, Ambulatory Phlebectomy, and Ultrasound Guided Foam Sclerotherapy. At 14-months after the last procedure, there are no residual or recurrent veins. Symptoms have completely disappeared.
18.01.2022 Bare legs on a hot summer day. The best feeling!
18.01.2022 Periorbital veins stretch underneath the eye in the periocular region of the face. The natural ageing process, weight loss, and genetic predisposition can all be reasons for this vein to become more prominent in the under-eye or temple area. 17.01.2022 A mothers love for her child is like nothing else in the world. It knows no law, no pity, it dates all things and crushes down remorselessly all that stands in its path. Agatha Christie. Sending love to all mums today, near and far.
17.01.2022 This patient came to us for treatment of her visible periorbital veins (ie: prominent veins surrounding the eye). Our phlebologist treated the veins with Direct Vision Sclerotherapy. The after picture is from a month following treatment, where you can see some temporary bruising and swelling, but the veins in question are no longer visible. The bruising and swelling will continue to heal.
17.01.2022 Theres nobody quite like you, so naturally, the way varicose veins may affect you could be different from the next person. Perhaps youre very active, you may experience symptoms of varicose veins differently to someone who is say, in a sedentary job where theyre continually sitting. Or perhaps if you have experienced pregnancy, you may have symptoms show up differently to someone who hasnt. In todays blog, we discuss a recent patient treated by Dr Paraskevas to help us understand more about how the symptoms of varicose veins are sometimes experienced and the process of getting treatment. https://www.veinhealth.com.au/experiencing-varicose-veins-/
16.01.2022 Varicose veins can cause very painful symptoms like pain and aching in the legs, leg fatigue and heaviness, burning and itching, and can interrupt your sleep with restless legs and cramping. Treatment is available to relieve these symptoms and treat the cause. Theres more to learn here - http://rfr.bz/fbmm42
16.01.2022 Itchy legs? Did you know that can be a symptom of varicose veins? The skin in the area of a varicose vein can become itchy and irritated and can even change colour. If this happens, you may be developing Venous Dermatitis, which is a complication of chronic venous disease and severe varicose veins.
16.01.2022 As usual, we uphold our high clinical and infection control standards at our clinics. This includes disinfecting of treatment surfaces after each patient interaction, thorough cleaning and sterilisation of equipment and rooms, thorough, frequent cleaning of all high touch areas with high-grade disinfectant, including reception surfaces, door handles and treatment areas, and use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) during all appointments. We have introduced additional precautionary measures: We are advising patients to let us know if they are potentially high risk for infection or have been exposed to anyone who is high risk. We are requesting all patients to use the hand sanitiser provided upon entry into our reception areas.
15.01.2022 You can see the varicose veins running down the inside of the lower left leg of our 36-year-old patient. When we saw her again 12-months after treatment with Endovenous Laser Ablation, Ambulatory Phlebectomy, and Ultrasound Guided Foam Sclerotherapy, she is happy with the result. We will now do some minor surface sclerotherapy to treat smaller reticular veins and spider veins.

07.01.2022 Anyone can get varicose veins. But they are seen more frequently in people with a family history of vein problems and those whose occupations have them standing for long periods. Symptoms can include localised pain and aching in legs, leg fatigue and heaviness, burning, itching and throbbing, and cramping and restless legs. Look after your legs so they can look after you.
07.01.2022 Our 27-year-old patient had experienced varicose veins in her right lower leg calf since her late teens. Symptoms included swelling, aching, discomfort, and fatigue in the lower leg. We treated her with Endovenous Laser Ablation of the feeding great saphenous vein and Ambulatory Phlebectomy of the visible varicose veins. 18 months has now passed and there is a complete absence of the varicose veins on examination and on duplex ultrasound with complete resolution of her symptoms. Great outcome!
06.01.2022 Our 58-year-old patient come to the clinic with Spider veins on the outer thighs. Dr Paraskevas treated with a combination of Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy and Direct Vision Sclerotherapy. We followed up with the patient 12 months later and you can see here the visible and invisible symptoms have resolved.
06.01.2022 During pregnancy, extra pressure can be placed on your veins. This can exacerbate existing veins and cause new varicose veins to develop. We recommend seeking treatment between pregnancies to relieve painful symptoms. Learn more here - http://rfr.bz/fbtt4z

04.01.2022 On your feet all day at work? This can be a risk factor for varicose veins - along with a family history of vein problems. And varicose veins do not discriminate on gender. Both men and women can experience vein disease. Learn more here - http://rfr.bz/fc1nu7
04.01.2022 Our 40-year-old patient had a prominent feeder and spider veins on her legs. We performed one treatment with direct vision sclerotherapy. The originating feeder veins as well as resulting spider veins were treated meaning they will not return. The second image shows right after treatment. We followed up with the patient in-clinic at 5 months following treatment, and the veins had completely resolved. The patient was very satisfied with the result.
04.01.2022 Periorbital veins stretch underneath the eye - in the periocular region of the face. In normal circumstances, they are invisible under the skin, but sometimes an under-eye vein or temple vein can become enlarged. They can ache and appear more visible like a bruise, due to the thinner skin in these areas of the face. We treat them in clinic with direct vision sclerotherapy. This involves injecting a small amount of very low concentration sclerosant into the small and visible veins lateral to the orbital rim. The needle is directed away from the eye, and the solution is injected on the outside of the orbit towards the ear. Following the administration of the solution, the vein will spasm and collapse eventually leading to a permanent hardening of the vein (sclerosis). Over time the vein will be absorbed by the body.
03.01.2022 Friends and relatives of advancing age can sometimes experience hinderences to getting their painful varicose veins treated. This is especially concerning, as they are more likely to be suffering with more serious complications from venous disease, as their veins may have gone many years without treatment. Some of the barriers to getting help might be: reduced ability to easily get to medical help, lack of finances, or no family or health advocate to support and check in on them. They may not even realise the severe symptoms theyre experiencing are caused by varicose veins. Read more: http://rfr.bz/fbxeda
02.01.2022 Wearing compression to help support the legs and reduce swelling caused by varicose veins is worthwhile, but keep in mind, its only a temporary measure. As soon as you take them off, your varicose veins will again start aching and swelling again. Left untreated, varicose veins do not right themselves - if you have varicose veins youll need to see a phlebologist: a medically qualified doctor with post-graduate training for diagnosis and treatment of venous disease.
01.01.2022 Our 45-year-old patient presented with longstanding varicose veins/swelling of the left thigh/lower leg. She had symptoms of heaviness, discomfort, tiredness, and restless leg syndrome. We treated with Endovenous Laser Ablation, Ambulatory Phlebectomy, and Ultrasound Guided Foam Sclerotherapy. 18-months later, the patient is satisfied with the cosmetic and medical outcomes of treatment. We will continue to monitor every 5 years.
01.01.2022 People who work in standing positions, who are on their feet all day can suffer from varicose veins, as well as people who dont have any mobility and those who suffer from obesity. Read the full article: Does crossing your legs give you varicose veins? https://lttr.ai/OlIa
