24.01.2022 Effort is a choice: Want to know what the number regret of athletes who didnt reach their goals was? - They believe they couldve given a better effort when th...ey had the chance! Theres one thing you dont want to have when your career is done - and that is regret. A great effort is something I believe first comes from having a great attitude. Effort is a controllable, its something you get to choose. You will be amazed how much a little more effort in all areas of your life will make. Not just in your results, but in relationships, school, your job and in general life. Nothing great is ever achieved without giving a great effort. And it all comes down to a consistency in your attitude and actions. Yes, all excellence and achievement starts with putting in a great effort. The champion minded athlete understands that effort is not just a sometimes thing, its an everyday thing. The time you invest in meaningful effort will produce rewards that continue to grow more valuable. We understand from the studies of Carol Dweck of Stanford University, that an individual who gives a great effort succeeds way more due to having a growth mindset approach. They enjoy the process of giving their best effort and trying their hardest. They see failure as a learning curve, not a dead end street. On the opposite side of that, we see individuals who have fixed mindsets, these are the ones who give up early and avoid putting the efforts in, fearing a poor result as failure. My message to you today is this; dont fall into a world that accepts mediocrity or second best. You are destined for much more than that. In fact, build your life upon those efforts and accomplishments that reveal who you really are. Try, try and try again, but never quit. A great effort and attitude will take you places. In fact, I personally know college coaches who select players that display great effort and attitude with good skill level over the more higher skilled players who give less effort and attitude. Make your best talent your attitude, effort and your work ethic! Athletes, It takes ZERO talent to get to practice earlier or do the extra work in the gym. Your choices now will determine your success later. Leave no regrets. Allistair McCaw

20.01.2022 CELLSENTIALS AND INCELLIGENCE: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW On the heels of an international convention and a massive deluge of new information, the level of exciteme...nt is higher than I have ever seen. However, I believe there is also a higher level of confusion resulting from all the new information. Its hard to know where to start, but we will do our best to try and bring some perspective and clarity to the changes. There is a popular saying that goes something to the effect of you cant see the forest for the trees, the meaning of which is someone who is too involved in the details of an issue to look at the situation as a whole. In this case, Im concerned that talk of InCelligence and cell signaling has overshadowed the bigger picture and some very important points. CellSentials is not all about InCelligence We already had what we consider the number one vitamin/mineral/antioxidant supplement on the market, and we made very significant changes and upgrades to make it even better. InCelligence is but a piece of that, so lets get back to basics. The CellSentials are USANAs flagship nutritional supplement: a combination of both the Vita Antioxidant and Core Minerals products. Formulated to not only prevent deficiency diseases, the CellSentials provide advanced levels of micronutrients to retain optimal health and energy levels. The CellSentials are a four-part formula that contain: Essential vitamins and minerals; Antioxidants; Other beneficial building blocks and cofactors for the body; A unique InCelligence complex that helps activate the bodys own natural defense and health mechanisms. The new and improved CellSentials had major changes throughout, including the additional of pre-formed vitamin A and mixed carotenoids to go along with the beta-carotene, resulting in a more complete and effective carotenoid mix. The vitamin E complex was rebalanced with a 300%+ increase in mixed tocopherols (high gamma) and a reduction in alpha tocopherol to account for newer science. The iodine level was significantly increased. The vitamin D level was increased. Folic acid was reduced in some markets to account for higher dietary intake from fortified foods. Choline, a vitamin-like compound that is also a methyl donor was more than doubled. Vitamin K was significantly adjusted to provide more vitamin K1, some of which is converted to vitamin K2 (as MK-4) in the body. And, we also included some separate vitamin K2 (as MK-7, which is not converted in the body). Some of the ingredients in the Vita Antioxidant and Core Minerals were adjusted or reformulated in a way to provide better synergy, stability and compatibility. And finally, the previous bioflavonoid complex, which was primarily a collection of healthy phytonutrients for antioxidant protection, was replaced with the InCelligence complex. The InCelligence complex includes 2 of the nutrients that were previously in the AO Booster (resveratrol and alpha-lipoic acid), and at higher levels, along with other familiar nutrients. The difference is that this particular grouping of nutrients (InCelligence) is more purposeful, tested and synergistic, providing an added impact on endogenous antioxidant production and cell signaling pathways to help promote healthy cell lifecycles. So, the take home message is this: we made major improvements to what were already the best supplements on the market, and the added benefits of the InCelligence complex puts them even further ahead of the rest. But dont let the technical jargon or emphasis on InCelligence overshadow the basics. If you arent comfortable with the terminology or your understanding of cell signaling or InCelligence itself, it is but a part of the puzzle that makes up the most effective, most complete, flagship nutritional combination (Vita Antioxidant and Core Minerals) we have ever provided. Others may have a different opinion, but for your individual understanding and going forward with others I would approach it with full knowledge of the product content and purpose first, then with the added bonus of the InCelligence complex. For more specific information on the improvements to the CellSentials and the rationale behind them, see the following link: https://askthescientists.com//changed-essentialscellsenti/
20.01.2022 Because it is breast cancer awareness month, here is a simple reminder to make sure your vitamin D levels are adequate. SYSTEMATIC REVIEW FINDS CORRELATION BETW...EEN LOW VITAMIN D LEVELS AND RISK OF BREAST CANCER Breast cancer is one of the most common types of cancer among women worldwide. In a new review of the published literature, researchers evaluated the possible correlation of plasma vitamin D deficiency and breast cancer risk among women. The study provided evidence that vitamin D deficiency is prevalent in patients with breast cancer. The majority of studies in the review considered a level of less than 20 ng/ml (50 nmol/L) as deficient. Read more: https://askthescientists.info/low-vitamin-d-levels-and-ris/
18.01.2022 The lymphatic system. Lymph nodes. Often mentioned, but seldom understood. I thought a basic review would be helpful for most people. Ive included 5 interestin...g facts about the lymphatic system at the end that I hope you will find interesting. WHAT IS THE LYMPHATIC SYSTEM? The lymphatic system functions parallel to the circulatory system and consists of lymph vessels, lymph nodes, and lymphoid tissues. The primary role of the lymphatic system is to absorb and transport large molecules (including protein and cellular debris) which are too large to be collected by veins and capillaries. This lymph fluid is then transported to lymph nodes that act as filtering stations in the body. In other words, the lymph system drains all of the waste materials that are produced by every cell within the body. Think of it this way, the lymphatic system is like an automatic flushing toilet. Without it, there would be too much waste within the body for it is a process. In the lymph nodes, white blood cells from the bodys natural defense system, called lymphocytes, help fight bacteria and viruses. There are two major types of white blood cells (WBCs or lymphocytes), namely, T-Lymphocytes and B-Lymphocytes, which are also termed as T-Cells and B-Cells, respectively. Lymphatic system networks are situated in several areas of the body with a specific drainage pathway for each individual area. Superficial Lymph Nodes Include: Axillary: Located under each arm, these nodes receive fluid from the arm, chest, back, and breast tissue. Inguinal: Located at the bend of the hip, these nodes receive fluid from the leg, lower abdomen, gluteal region, and external genitals. Deep Lymph Nodes Include: Supraclavicular: Located at the neck just above the collar bones, this important node group receives fluid from the head and shoulders. If indicated due to illness such as cancer, the treatment of these lymph nodes precedes all other treatment. Deep Abdominal/Pelvic Nodes: The abdomen is richly invested in lymph nodesthey surround the organs and intestines. These nodes also receive fluid from the superficial inguinal area as well. Congestion in this area alone can cause swelling in the lower extremities, abdomen, and genitalia. Lymphatic tissue is found in other areas of the body including the tonsils, spleen, intestinal wall, and bone marrow. A few facts of interest: Lymphatic system works in coordination and collaboration with the lymphoid system, immune system and cardiovascular system. Most people have between 500 and 700 lymph nodes throughout the body. Lymph nodes are found in the largest number in certain areas of your body, such as, groin, neck and underarms. Unlike blood circulatory system, your lymphatic system does not possess any pumping organ for the movement of lymph through its network of channels. The smooth movement of fluids in this system is assisted by the pressure created by the muscle movement and the heartbeat. Lymphoma is cancer of the lymph nodes. It occurs when lymphocytes grow and multiply uncontrollably. The first branch point is the difference between Hodgkin lymphoma and non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). Tomorrow's post: Supporting your lymphatic system.

12.01.2022 Even if you are eating a "perfect diet", are you sure you are getting everything you think you are from your food? THE EFFECT OF PROCESSING AND PREPARATION ON T...HE NUTRITIONAL CONTENT OF FOODS How does freezing, cooking, drying and reheating effect the nutritional content of food? What about grilling? Should you cook your vegetables, or eat them raw? It is rarely discussed, but many of the nutrients in foods we eat are affected in different ways by the way we store, process, prepare and cook our food. Did you know that you lose as much as 80% of the vitamin C content of a fruit when it is dried? There are exceptions, too. Cooking actually improves the bioavailability of carotenoids from foods. Cooked carrots, spinach, mushrooms, asparagus, cabbage, peppers and many other vegetables supply more nutrients, such as carotenoids and ferulic acid, to the body than they do when raw. However, it is also true that cooking destroys much of the vitamin C and polyphenol content. Another important carotenoid, lycopene, is also more bioavailable when the food source is cooked and processed. Tomato paste contains much more usable lycopene than raw tomatoes. Broccoli provides more of some healthy nutrients when cooked, and more of different healthy compounds when raw. So, there really isnt a single best way to prepare, store, process or cook your food. As always, it comes down to variety and moderation. Here is the take home message - The best way to ensure you are getting maximum benefits is to eat a variety of the recommended servings of fruits and veggies no matter how they are prepared. And, the more ways you make them delicious and enticing to you, the more likely you are to eat them. Here is a really informative page on the Nutritional Effects of Food Processing. http://nutritiondata.self.com/topics/processing For more information, see the article at the following link: https://www.scientificamerican.com//raw-veggies-are-healt/

09.01.2022 Research published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition has shown a reduction in cancer rates among postmenopausal women taking vitamin D combined with... calcium. VITAMIN D, CALCIUM AND CANCER RISK Research conclusion: We found that improving vitamin D nutritional status substantially reduced all-cancer risk in postmenopausal women. Furthermore, baseline and treatment-induced serum 25(OH)D concentrations were themselves strong predictors of cancer risk. These findings highlight the importance of promoting optimum vitamin D status and underscore the value of achieving and maintaining a high serum 25(OH)D concentration. 01.01.2022 Research shows a connection between mental health and nutrition. The most common nutritional deficiencies seen in patients with mental disorders are of omega3... fatty acids, B vitamins, minerals, and amino acids that are precursors to neurotransmitters. Nutritional neuroscience is an emerging discipline shedding light on the fact that nutritional factors are intertwined with human cognition, behavior, and emotions. Read the full article on our website at: http://bit.ly/2pDp1GZ This is not meant to imply that a particular nutrient or nutrients can cure mental illness, simply that nutrition plays a significant role in overall brain health.
