18.01.2022 Brand Values and Customer Attraction I mentioned our brand values; smooth and gorgeous in my previous post and thought it might be interesting to explore how those values have shaped our client base. In the beginning our clients came mostly from the fashion and retails sectors, which felt like a natural fit for the business name and our values, but as our business has always come through referrals, the sectors we work in has become completely diverse. Like any brand our value...s are not just values, they are a part of us and we are a part of them our personalities are interwoven with them, so it’s not the values alone that shape the kind of customers we attract it’s the way we are and the way we do things. It’s fair to say that while any company would be happy to work with suppliers whose projects run smoothly, not everyone wants gorgeous and that’s ok. There are more than enough gorgeous-thinking people around for us. And that’s really the point of defining your brand personality and position it helps you to attract like-minded clients. If you’re not attracting the kind of clients you want to work with, it might be time for a little brand navel-gazing and re-alignment of your DNA. See more
11.01.2022 One of our true pleasures in life is helping our clients to discover - or re-discover who they are as a brand. Digging deep and revealing all of its wonderful nuances and resurrecting all the special things they once loved about it and seem to have lost along the way - allowing them to fall in love with their brands again and then sharing it with the world, so that everyone can fall in love with it too. Do you know anyone who’s ready to start that journey? www.creativemarketingsydney.com.au
06.01.2022 What ‘s the Best Way to Define Brand Values? We do a lot of work at Velvet helping clients to create or crystallise their brand values. Every brand is different, so we may never approach the task in the same way twice. Values most typically take the form of a group of words, but we may, instead craft a series of emotive statements, prose, powerful images or even just colours to articulate the brand essence or indeed, any combination of the above. So if you are choosing word...s to describe your brand, how many should you use? There is no correct answer for this just as many as it takes to colour the picture of your brand with real clarity. Remember that the combination of words you choose needs to be truly defining. Avoid using the generic terms that many businesses do, such as ‘quality’, ‘service-oriented’, ‘customer-focussed’ etc. etc. Those things ought to be a given and far from defining, they will simply drive your brand in a bland and forgettable direction. Oddly, I’m not often asked this, but a client last week asked me about our brand values for Velvet, which did cause a little soul searching as we really haven’t re-visited it for a few years. Our values emerged when we started our business back in 2005 and finally decided upon the name Velvet (then Velvet Agency now morphed into Velvet Creative Marketing). We chose the name Velvet because it is smooth and gorgeous - and we love velvet. This led us to thinking that if we strived to ensure every project ran smoothly and every piece of work we produced was gorgeous; we ought to be heading in the right direction. Over the years as we’ve worked with other brands and developed new ways of identifying and expressing brand values, we have revisited our own, and we have added images, quotes and a little poetry to the mix, but simplistic as they may be, we’ve never felt the need to add any words to our two values smooth and gorgeous. So, while some businesses are more complex and need a dozen or more words to fully articulate the vision - sometimes just two is enough! The best way is to put aside your logical, business brain when creating your values and just do it from the heart you won’t go far wrong. See more
