13.01.2022 CORONAVIRUS UPDATE: MARCH 24 As of 7:00AM on March 24, data from NSW Health shows NO confirmed cases of the virus in the Far West Local Health District. ... There has been ONE confirmed case in Mildura, over the Victorian border from Broken Hill. The border between South Australia and NSW will locked down from 4:00pm today. It's not yet known where the border control points will be, but the SA Government has said police will be based at biosecurity and heavy vehicle stations. Anyone travelling to South Australia MUST self-isolate for 14 days. To apply for an exemption, send an email with as much information as possible to: [email protected] The border between Queensland and NSW will be locked down from midnight. Anyone travelling into Queensland must self-isolate for 14 days. Authorities are still working on how and where to establish road-based restrictions. BUSINESSES SHUT Pubs and clubs in Broken Hill and beyond have been forced to shut down completely or drastically scale back their operations. The famous Silverton Hotel has closed down, with all eleven staff laid off yesterday. It's a fate shared by Broken Hill pubs the Junction Hotel, the Old Royal Hotel, and the South Hotel, which have stopped trading completely. Other businesses have been restricted to takeaway food or alcohol - like the Tydvil, Mulga Hill Tavern, Black Lion and Royal Exchange. Further afield, Shindy's Inn at Louth has been shut and is assessing its options, the Cameron Corner Store has closed its bar but will remain open for fuel and takeaway liquor, as will the Tilpa Hotel. Broken Hill's clubs have shut down, while the Silly Goat cafe is now offering takeaway food and coffee only. LOCALS FORCED ONTO WELFARE Dozens of shocked Broken Hill locals have found themselves out of work and queuing for welfare as the fallout from the coronavirus pandemic continues. Mass closures and cuts at hospitality businesses have forced most workers in one of the city's largest sectors into unemployment. Laura Hopkins lost her jobs at the Sturt Club and KFC on Sunday night and joined the Centrelink queue yesterday. She said she desperately needed a way to make ends meet. "I have a mortgage still. I'm paying off my house, had it for three years," Ms Hopkins said. "I've got a small business up in Adelaide I'm still trying to run and it's draining money just trying to get stock in and out. It's bloody impossible. "I was hoping to probably get on the Youth Allowance or get on Job Seeker so I can pay off my mortage or pay for the business while I'm trying to look for more jobs." CONCERN ABOUT REMOTE COMMUNITIES There are fears Indigenous communities in the far west will be seriously tested by the coronavirus. Health authorities have set aside areas at the hospitals in Wilcannia, Menindee, Tibooburra, White Cliffs and Ivanhoe where testing for the virus can be carried out. But Murdi Paaki Regional Assembly chairman, Des Jones, said health messaging had not been simple enough to cut through to people living in isolated areas. He said there needed to be a much greater effort to drive home the danger posed by the virus to Indigenous Australians. "It's got to be broken down into simple language that people understand that this isnt' something that's just happening in someone else's community or overseas, this is something that's going to happen in your community - very quickly," Mr Jones said. "Make sure you switch your TV to the news, keep updated with what's going on. Washing hands, locking down your homes, limited contact with other people. Listening to the advice, the medical advice that's coming through." CORONAVIRUS TESTING ARRANGEMENTS At Broken Hill, the Local Health District is operating a specialised COVID-19 clinic between 10am and 8pm, seven days a week, next to the local hospital. At Tibooburra, White Cliffs, Wilcannia, Menindee, Ivanhoe and Balranald, a separate area has been established away from the emergency department where people with mild to moderate symptoms can be tested. Anyone with severe symptoms must call ahead before attending the emergency department for screening there. At Dareton and Wentworth, people with mild to moderate symptoms should contact their local GPs for screening and testing, while people with severe symptoms should visit the Mildura Base Hospital.

13.01.2022 Future building in flame zones and bushfire prone areas calls for materials appropriate for those areas. This is a hemp and lime wall, renewable and sustainabl...e. 4 hours under a flame at 650’C. Not only does Hemplime construction (Hempcrete) allow for building in fire prone areas but building with hemp also stores huge amounts of carbon. 04.01.2022 HOMEBUILDER GRANT EXTENDED The Federal Government program offering cash grants for housing construction projects has been extended, but at a lower amount. It h...ad been due to expire at the end of the year but will be extended to 31 March, 2021, at the lower rate of $15,000. The $15,000 grant is for building contracts (new builds and substantial renovations) signed between 1 January 2021 and 31 March 2021, inclusive. In addition, there has also been an increase to the property price cap for new build contracts in New South Wales and Victoria. These are rising to $950,000 and $850,000, respectively. Mr Morrison said "Extending HomeBuilder will mean a steady pipeline of construction activity to keep tradies on the tools."
