21.01.2022 MEET OUR SPEAKERS // Equality Talks: Part 2 New Frontiers Dr Sandro Demaio is a medical doctor and renowned public health expert and advocate. He is the CEO of VicHealth. Sandro previously worked for the World Health Organization (WHO) and was CEO of the EAT Foundation. He also co-founded the NCDFREE global social movement and established a not-for-profit foundation to improve the health and nutrition of Australian kids.... Sandro has published many scientific journal articles and is author of the Doctor’s Diet cookbook. He also co-hosts the ABC Australia television and Netflix show Ask the Doctor. 15.01.2022 MEET OUR SPEAKERS // Equality Talks: Part 2 New Frontiers Vishaal Kishore is a strategist, political economist, academic and commentator. He is Professor of Innovation and Public Policy at RMIT University, where he leads the pathbreaking, anti-disciplinary Health Transformation Lab. Vishaal is also a founding architect, Deputy CEO and Chief Strategy Officer of The Actuator Australia’s National MedTech Catalyst. He has previously been Deputy Secretary at the Victorian Depa...rtment of Health & Human Services; Director for government strategy within EY Australia’s management consulting practice; a mergers and acquisitions lawyer at Mallesons Stephen Jaques and Freehills; and an Associate to Justice Gray of the Federal Court of Australia. Vishaal regularly advises governments, NGOs and corporates in respect of strategy, regulation, public policy and innovation, and holds a number of board and advisory positions with innovation agencies and enterprises. Vishaal’s intellectual and strategic work focuses on the changing boundary between the public and the private between the state and the market particularly in the context of healthcare innovation, the ‘new economy’, and in crafting inclusive economic and political futures. He has held academic and research positions at Harvard and Brown Universities in the United States, as well as at The University of Melbourne and Monash Uni. He holds a doctorate from Harvard University, where his work focused on the intersection of law, political economy and socio-political theory. 14.01.2022 MEET OUR SPEAKERS // Equality Talks: Part 2 New Frontiers Lyn Morgain is the Chief Executive of Oxfam, a global development agency empowering community around the world to tackle poverty and inequality. Prior to this role, Lyn was the Chief Executive of cohealth, Victoria’s largest community health organisation. Lyn has been an executive leader in public policy, not-for-profit organisations and government for the past 25 years. ... As leader of Oxfam Australia, Lyn oversees the delivery of a broad range of long-term development programs, advocacy campaigns and humanitarian responses. Oxfam works in partnership with local organisations, governments and decision-makers to deliver outcomes such as clean water and sanitation, gender equality, livelihood support, justice for First Peoples, labour rights, food security, and support for communities affected by climate change. Lyn has spent her career advocating for the rights of disadvantaged peoples and she is passionate about strength-based approaches that engender community ownership and control over service design, development and delivery. Lyn has published numerous journal articles on primary care and the social determinants of health. She is a member of the Victorian Justice Health Ministerial Advisory Committee and the Community Health Taskforce. She is the interim Chair of the national Social Determinants of Health Alliance. 04.01.2022 MEET OUR SPEAKERS // Equality Talks: Part 2 New Frontiers Born in Naarm (Melbourne) and raised in Mildura, Indi Clarke is a proud Mutti Mutti, Wemba Wemba, Boon Wurrung, Trawlwoolway and Lardil man. Indi is a passionate advocate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the power of strength-based approaches and Aboriginal knowledge systems. Indi believes that the path to positive change starts with empowered families and communities as well as a holistic approac...h to healing and wellbeing. Indi is the Executive Officer of the Koorie Youth Council and takes great pride contributing to work that gives back to his communities. Prior to this, he was the Deputy Manager of Koorie Youth Council and worked with Mallee District Aboriginal Services - Mildura, Swan Hill, Kerang, Robinvale (MDAS) as Youth and Community Engagement Facilitator. In 2016, Mildura Rural City Council recognised him as an emerging leader in the local community, naming him Young Citizen of the Year. In the same year, he also won the Victorian Koorie Student of the Year, as part of the Victorian Training Awards. 02.01.2022 MEET OUR SPEAKERS // Equality Talks: Part 2 New Frontiers Lizzie O'Shea is a lawyer, writer and broadcaster. Her commentary has featured regularly on national television programs and radio, examining law, digital technology, corporate responsibility and human rights. In print, her writing has appeared in The New York Times, Guardian Australia and The Sydney Morning Herald. She is founder and chair of Digital Rights Watch, which advocates for human rights online. She also si...ts on the board of Blueprint for Free Speech and the Alliance for Gambling Reform. At the National Justice Project, she worked with lawyers, journalists and activists to establish a Copwatch program, for which she received the Davis Projects for Peace Prize. In June 2019, she was named a Human Rights Hero by Access Now. As a lawyer, Lizzie spent many years working in public interest litigation, on cases brought on behalf of refugees and activists. She was proud to represent the Fertility Control Clinic in their battle to stop harassment of their staff and patients, as well as the Traditional Aboriginal Owners of Muckaty Station in their successful attempt to stop a nuclear waste dump being built on their land. Her book, ‘Future Histories’, looks at radical social movements and theories from history and applies them to debates about digital technology today.
