24.01.2022 Thank you to those who came down to our last busy bee, your help was much appreciated and the garden looks a lot better for it. The community garden is 10 years old this year. As some of you may be aware the community garden is in a state of rebuild. The garden beds had originally been constructed with untreated wood and after 10 years that wood has rotted away and the beds have become unsafe to use. We have also had some challenges with the soil at the garden being infested... with nutgrass. If you are a green thumb you might know what a pain that is. We have rebuilt our first set of garden beds with limestone blocks, courtesy of the very generous and lovely John from SwanLimestone, so that the garden beds will be a bit more sustainable for future use. We do however need to build more garden beds and this relies on volunteers and the generosity of our local trades people to help us out in clearing the old soil with a bobcat and helping us move big blocks of limestone. The community garden has a simple vision to be a collaborate sustainable space for those who like to grow plants & vegetables and for those who would like to learn how to. We are working with the City of Swan and our neighbours the Men's Shed to see how we can work together in using the space and how we can create a broader collaborative space for the community in the future. Rebuilding the garden is taking time and a lot of effort from what is currently a very small group of volunteers who have been generous enough to take time out from their own commitments and families to dig in and see the garden brought back to life. The community garden has so much potential as a great community space however to make it a great space for the future we need volunteers to help by lending a hand. So please consider how you might be able to pitch in, lift a shovel or a hammer or a wheelbarrow rather than just liking or commenting on this post. Our next busy bee is on Sunday March 15 from 9am onwards. If you are a local tradie who would like to help us with some of the big jobs please message us. We would be so appreciative for the extra help and would be very happy to give a plug to your business.

19.01.2022 Happy 1st Birthday to our friends at Saltbush Eco Store! Make sure you pop in today and wish them a Happy Birthday and treat yourself to a lolly bag to celebrate!

19.01.2022 We were alerted to a break in overnight by our mates next door at the Ellenbrook Mens Shed. Thankyou Brian! Scratching our heads in disbelief at the senseless destruction unleashed throughout the garden. Our locks were cut and the shed ransacked, security lights smashed, countless vegetables ripped out of plots and our fire extinguisher discharged across a bed of sweet potatoes to name a few. Our committee have been working so hard lately to revive the garden in order to keep community gardening an option for Ellenbrook residents and while this incident feels like a big kick in the guts today, tomorrow is a new day. We will repair the damage and continue on with our improvements to make the garden a wonderful space for our community. Lastly a big Thankyou to Ellenbrook Police for their swift and professional assistance today!

19.01.2022 Wet weather and Covid-19 restrictions are forcing us to postpone this month's busy bee. Lets cross our fingers for next month! Stay dry & stay well folks!
