24.01.2022 Happy #NSWSeniorsFestival to all of the valued seniors in our region and, in particular, to those special local people who give their time and love as Foster Carers. http://bit.ly/VHFosterCare

23.01.2022 For many young people being supported by Veritas, the cost of a mobile phone is unobtainable, however access to a phone can be critical for our caseworkers to maintain communication and check on their safety, particularly for young people in remote communities across the region. If you are upgrading your mobile phone and no longer need your old handset, please consider donating it to Veritas - we can assure you it will be gratefully received by its new owner!

22.01.2022 Happy 2020 Mardi Gras weekend to everyone in the #LGBTIQ community in our region and, in particular, to those special local same-sex couples who give their time and love as Foster Carers with Veritas House. http://bit.ly/VHFosterCare

21.01.2022 Happy Easter to children, young people and families across the region from everyone at Veritas House. And a big thank you to the very special local Easter bunny who brought some joy to the young people staying at our youth refuge.

21.01.2022 After a challenging few weeks, Veritas staff finished the week with a virtual Easter Hat Parade, including gift vouchers supporting local businesses as prizes. From our Veritas House family to yours, wishing everyone a safe and relaxing Easter break and don't forget to #StayAtHomeAndStaySafe. Veritas will continue to deliver essential services over the Easter holiday period, but our offices will be unattended. If you or someone you know needs urgent help or support over the break, call link2home Homelessness Line on 1800 152 152 or visit our website: https://veritashouse.org.au/contact-veritas-house-bathurst/

20.01.2022 Today marks the start of National Families Week and we would like to take the opportunity to celebrate the diversity of families in our region. In particular, we want to acknowledge the vital role Veritas House Foster Carers play in providing safe and loving homes to local children and young people. #NationalFamiliesWeek #StrongerFamiliesStrongerCommunities http://bit.ly/VHFosterCare

19.01.2022 Today on National Domestic Violence Remembrance Day we stand up and say no to domestic and family violence and light this candle to acknowledge all of the victims of domestic abuse. Don’t be a bystander to domestic and family violence. Stand Up, Speak Out. If you or someone you know needs help, please call NSW Domestic Violence Line on 1800 656 463. In an emergency call 000.#DVRemembranceDay #ENDDFV.

18.01.2022 Bernardi’s Bathurst has selected Veritas as one of the beneficiaries of their Building Better Communities Program! Every time a customer goes through the checkout they will be given a green token. The more tokens that are dropped into the Veritas House tub on the way out of the store, the greater our share of $5,000 that will be shared between three organisations in July. All of the funds we receive will support local young people transitioning from homelessness to live independently in the community, so please considering dropping your token in our tub next time you visit Bernardi's!

18.01.2022 Today marks the first day of #NationalYouthWeek2020 - an important opportunity to take a break from COVID-19 and celebrate the achievements of the hundreds of young people our Veritas House staff have the privilege of working with each year across the region. Inspiring young people like Violet: the first tenant to stay at our newly-renovated transitional youth housing property, thanks to a grant last year from Newcastle Permanent Charitable Foundation and support from local businesses like Inside Outside Bathurst Interiors & Heating. http://bit.ly/VHclientStories

18.01.2022 If this meme is how you are feeling when you think about another work day, maybe it's time to use your CPA or CA Accounting qualifications working with a community-based agency that is improving the lives of children, young people and families in our region? Veritas House currently has available a Finance Manager position on our Executive team, which could be the perfect opportunity to make a positive change in your work life. Check out our careers page: https://veritashouse.org.au/careers-with-us/

18.01.2022 We are OVER THE MOON to have been announced as one of five finalists to receive a $10,000 major grant through the Westfund Community Grant Program - but we need your help! PLEASE take just two minutes to click on the link below and vote for Veritas House and please share with your networks and encourage them to vote also. It would be very exciting for Veritas and the region if we were successful, but it will be tough when we are competing against communities the size of Wollongong, Toowoomba and Geelong, so we need the Central West to get behind us! Cast your vote online: https://www.westfund.com.au/grants/

16.01.2022 Everyone is being told they should stay at home, but for many of the young people Veritas supports who are experiencing homelessness, home during Covid is a youth refuge or transitional accommodation. So we were pretty pumped today to receive our delivery of Sleep Kits thanks to Sheridan and our friends at StreetSmart Australia! Sleep Kits are manufactured by Sheridan using excess material and each kit contains a sheet set and towel. We will provide a kit to young people staying at our refuges so they can sleep in comfort while they stay with us and can take them with them when they leave. If you would like more information on the SleepSafe initiative or would like to donate $15 to provide a kit to someone in need, visit https://streetsmartaustralia.org/sleepsafe/

16.01.2022 We know it's not Tuesday, but Kenny Spring Solicitors we decided to spread the #TakeawayTuesday love across the week! The Veritas House team enjoyed a delicious lunch from our friends at Panorama Mini-Mart & Takeaway, who are great supporters of our service and of the local community. #KeepitlocalBX

13.01.2022 Ho Ho Ho! A belated thank you to all the staff at J.R. Simplot Company at Kelso for their generous donations which helped stock the pantry cupboards over the Christmas period for a number of young people who have transitioned from homelessness and are living independently in the Bathurst community.

12.01.2022 Every young person has the right to feel safe in their home. Yet 70% of young people experiencing homelessness have left their home to escape family violence, child abuse or family breakdown. Today is Youth Homelessness Matters Day, and though there won't be any events this year, we're asking our online community to mark the occasion by: taking a moment to read this post and learn the facts about youth homelessness, so that together we can identify, address and support loca...l young people in need taking a moment to check out our website and understand the supports that Veritas House has provided to local young people for almost 40 years taking a moment to consider the impact that not having a safe home has on local young people, particularly during COVID-19, and taking a moment to consider what having a home means to you and what it allows you to do. And then join the #YHMD2020 online campaign by finishing the following sentence in the comments below: With a home, young people can....

11.01.2022 A big congratulations to Jazmine Curry on her nomination and selection as a finalist in the FB Live: 2020 Western NSW Regional Awards for the Aboriginal Student of the Year category, which will be announced tonight. From everyone at Veritas House, congratulations on everything you have achieved Jaz you are an inspiration!

11.01.2022 As we approach the Winter solstice and another cold weekend, we want to send a warm shout out to our very good friend Nicky, who has crocheted her way through a blanket for every bed at our youth refuge at Orange, and now almost completed every bed at our Bathurst refuge. Not only do they keep our residents toasty warm, it means the world to the young people and our staff knowing that a community member cares so much.

09.01.2022 As part of the Veritas House #FosterCareWeek celebrations, Billie Henderson and Mark Mason from Bathurst were today announced the recipients of the Deb Elsley Memorial Award. The award acknowledges the significant contribution that Billie and Mark have made in providing a safe and supportive home environment to children and young people in care, and assisting them to grow and develop in a happy and healthy way. Billie and Mark have been carers for many years, including the pa...st 6 years with Veritas House. In addition to being compassionate carers to some 17 children, Billie and Mark were selected for the award in recognition of their role in supporting other local foster carers, particularly new carers and those experiencing hardship. As a foster carer there are always lots of tears, but there are also always huge rewards, and that’s seeing a child safe, happy and healthy because of the love that you can provide them as a foster carer, said Billie. Veritas House remains in urgent need of a wide range of foster carers like Billie and Mark who can give a safe and loving home to children and young people in the local region, particularly sibling groups. If you would like information about becoming a foster carer, it is not too late to register for our online Foster Care information session this Thursday night at 6pm. Contact Lee on 6332 3882 for more information or to register to attend, or visit our website: https://veritashouse.org.au/foster-care/

06.01.2022 Looking for a way you can help our local community? Our good friends at Westfund Health Insurance will donate $100 to Veritas House (and give you a $200 egift card*) when you sign up on a combined Gold, Silver or Bronze tier Hospital and Extras policy before 31 August. Just let them know that Veritas is your charity of choice. Visit or call the Bathurst branch to learn more. *Terms and conditions apply: https://bit.ly/3hmQbs4

05.01.2022 While in lockdown, why not take the opportunity to clean out that drawer or cupboard and locate old mobile phone handsets that you no longer need and put them to good use? We are still in desperate need of handsets that we can provide to young people we are providing 'virtual' services to, particularly in remote communities of Western NSW. Handsets can be dropped at our offices in Orange or Bathurst, or get in contact and we can arrange to collect them from your front doorstep. At times like these, we all need to do things that make ourselves feel good and help others, and this would achieve both!

05.01.2022 A large number of Veritas staff have committed to completing 3,046 push-ups in 21 days (either individually or as a team) representing the number of people 3,046 lives lost to suicide in 2018. In addition to raising awareness, we are raising funds for our friends at headspace Bathurst and headspace Orange. Please support us as we #pushforbetter this May by making a tax deductible donation to the Bathurst team at: https://www.thepushupchallenge.com.au//6808-veritas4streng

04.01.2022 To help relieve some of the boredom of ISO, Veritas staff are sharing links to a range of websites with children, young people and families we are supporting, and have captured all of the information on our website to help ensure it is easy to find: https://veritashouse.org.au/covid-19/ The page includes information on how we are continuing to deliver our services, advice from our Clinical and Consultation Services team to help families, and a collection of resources to help support healthy minds, healthy bodies, creative and/or educational sites and Arts and Culture. We're also hoping to keep adding to our collection, so if there is a site that your family recommends, be sure to let us know!

01.01.2022 With many children in our region at home and the challenges sometimes involved with trying to teach them about the importance of washing hands, we love this fun and educational video teaching the importance of using soap - one of the best ways to avoid catching Covid-19. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uvG6uBq-dV0&feature=youtu.be
