09.01.2022 Ever heard a speaker and thought, 'That's made-up BS'! Well... you are not alone. Jeff Hancock talks about lying in the age when everything is recorded. As speakers - presenting on social media, events, to customers, over the phone, webinar etc - we are being recorded, transcribed and documented. If you forget what you were going to say... you can't necessarily just make something up anymore. I admit I've fudged stats in the past when I've gone blank . I bet making things... up has gotten many a speaker out of a tight spot. The words spoken... and then gone. Now however... everything is recorded. In our digital age I think we need to not only ensure every single word counts as a speaker, but also that it is the truth. Speakers can't get away with 'made up stats' anymore... and having heard some doozies of stats from speakers in the past, it's perhaps not a moment too soon. I'm a big fan of owning up if you've forgotten what you were going to say, calmly consulting your notes or asking the audience. I think and hope that we will see more of this strategy than blustering through with BS and potentially damaging your reputation and brand well into your digital future. We need to ask the question 'Do I want this to be part of my personal record... my digital record?' as Jeff poses. How much embellishment do you think is OK for storytelling and stats? P.S. - I do find Jeff's 'Butler Buffer' super useful when trying to get work done and get off chatting on social media! Can't talk now... got to work
07.01.2022 I love wearing my hair down... it seems that even with a headset on for online speaking clients over zoom... I still flick my hair! I'm going to have to live with it tied back. Gorgeous fun working with my lovely client.... less hair flicking! Are you a hair flicker? Does it drive you nuts??
