14.01.2022 Update for farmers and pest control volunteers After requesting an update - the Agriculture Minister’s department has responded to me with a yes ! Dur...ing Stage 3 Restrictions in regional Victoria, volunteers CAN go onto a farmer’s property to assist in pest eradication. The Minister’s office responded - Pest control for a farmer (whether paid or unpaid) is considered work. When undertaking pest control for work, the ‘one other person or household’ gathering limit doesn’t apply, but people should maintain physical distancing and practice good hygiene. Similarly for last time, it is essential to have permission from the landholder and prudent to carry written permission with you. For example, a text message or email confirming the address of the farmer, supporting your reason for leaving home. Stage 3 Restrictions advice indicate that any volunteering must be done as close to home as practicable. Good luck & thank you for supporting our farmers! 11.01.2022 The proposed Animal Welfare Bill is "It's just a Directions Paper for public consultation at this stage" from a government source. This doesn't mean we can just... sit back and wait to see what pops out of the government, on the contrary, we have to get to work and make sure that the new bill works at least as well as the current POCTA act and transfers all of our exemptions across. This doesn't just threaten hunters, it threatens anyone with an animal based enterprise or, in the worst case scenario, companion animals.
