25.01.2022 NEWS FROM THE NEST! Here is our first newsletter for season 2020/21. Hopefully we can start the season in mid November

24.01.2022 2020/21 COACHING APPOINTMENTS We are very pleased to announce that Darren Milne is going to take on the role as Club Coach. Milneys record at the club goes without saying, but we will say it anyway: Leading run scorer, second in games played and third for first eleven games played. His experience and cricket knowledge will no doubt be of great value to all players. But even more than this, his passion for the VSCC will no doubt mean he will do whatever he can to ge...t the best out of every player for the benefit of the club. We are also delighted to announce that our Coach over the last few seasons, Matt Williams, will be staying on as an Assistant Coach. Mattys knowledge of the playing group will be extremely beneficial and his passion for the VSCC is also unquestionable. It is great he can remain involved, even with his family and work commitments. And we are of course so lucky to have a resource with the knowledge and experience of Ray Bright continuing as our other Assistant Coach. Ray continues to impart his wisdom and technical knowledge to all our players. How many clubs have an ex-Test cricketer in their coaching ranks? We are thankful to be so blessed. The club is delighted to have these three people leading our young (and in some cases not so young) group. If every player opens their mind to being a sponge, the amount of cricket wisdom that can be soaked up between these three guys is enormous. We look forward to some further exciting announcements in the coming weeks in the lead up to the season. GO VULTURES! Box Hill Reporter District Cricket Association

21.01.2022 THROW THURSDAY Throwback Thursday has become so popular our sponsors want in on the action! This weeks edition is brought to you by Mark Emery Panels. We are going back to season 2004/05. We have the 2nds playing in Shield 2 captained by Cam Smith for the season and starting their campaign at Livingstone against the Glen Waverley Hawks. Our team this week consisted of Marty Rose, Luke Davis, Andrew Oxley, Drew Griffin, Glenn Mitchell, Ryan England, Chris DAstoli, ...Kade Evans, Ross Hedrick, Ryan Punton and Justin Boyd. With the captain not playing round 1 it was left to the experience of Andrew Oxley and Marty Rose to lead the young team in this 1 day match. We won the toss and sent the Hawks into bat, Turtle , well known to many at the Vultures was opening the batting for the Hawks. We had DAstoli and Punton taking the new ball. Turtle was the first to go in the 10th over for 22 caught DAstoli in Boydys 1st over. Chris DAstoli , Luke Davis and Ross Hedrick would take a wicket each and we had them at 4/79 in the 21st over. Marty Rose would soon come into the attack and with his tricky tweakers would be the pick of the bowlers with 3/20 off 6 overs helping restrict the Hawks to 8/136 off 40 overs. Ross Hedrick would finish with 1/17 off his 10 overs and Luke Davis 1/16 off 5 overs. Our Innings would start with Marty Rose and Luke Davis, where Marty put on a clinic. He led from the front and smashed a brilliant 95 in a partnership of 127. Ox then came to the crease and got us to the target finishing on 7no with Davo remaining 26no. A great way to start the season for the Vultures convincingly beating the Hawks and Rosey a great Man of the Match with 95 and 3/20 Feel free to share your memories from this game in the Comments.

21.01.2022 NEWS FROM THE NEST NEWSLETTER

20.01.2022 THROW THURSDAY This weeks edition proudly brought to you by Willowbank Developments, make sure you support our sponsors where possible. We head back to the 2004/05 season to the Rd 1 match between Vermont South and Glen Waverley Hawks in Macintosh Shield. Our side for this game was lead by Mark Arnot and contained A Apostolopous, M Williams, S Murray, R Hammerton, S Staddon, M Arnot, S Cartledge, P Farquhar, G Viney, M Farrell and S Roach. Looked like a strong batti...ng side on paper. Glen Waverley won the toss and sent us in to bat. Ano and Matty Williams opened up and put on 26 for the first wicket with Ano making 7. This would bring Steve Murray into bat at 3 - yes 3 I hear you say. Muzz must have convinced Arnie that his lusty hitting would be of use against the Hawks at the top of the order, we did continue this experiment in Rd 2 as well. Matty was next to fall for 22 And 2/42 off 11 overs. Hammer would join Muzz at the crease before we lost Muzz for 9 - not the lusty hitting we were after. Hammer would be run out for 15 and Stadz caught behind for 5 and we were 5/72 in the 22nd over with Cartledge and Arnot at the crease. Scotty would fall for 6 which would send Farqers in and at 6/89 not the start to the season we were hoping for. When Arnie fell for 33 in the 36th over we had ground along to 7/150 a very handy 61 run partnership Tubes Viney would only make 2 and Farrell and Farquhar would see us through the 40 overs finishing at 8/177 with Farqers making a great 45no and Faz 6no. Glen Waverley would begin their run chase and we had Arnot and Viney open the bowling. An early wicket caught Murray of Viney and then a Hammerton run out would have them 2/20. A 42 run partnership before another run out had them 3/62. Wickets were needed fast - enter Steve Murray who would get the dangerous Mahoney for 26 in his 1st over and follow with another in his next to have them 5/73. Roach would take 1 in the next over and at 6/75 after 25 overs we were back on top. A 48 run partnership was broken by Muzz, then Arnie would take 2 in a over and Muzz finished off the innings for 125. Bowling was Arnot 2/21 off 9 Viney 1/33 off 10 Roach 1/28 off 10 and Muzz 4/36 off 8overs. A 52 run win to the Vultures, always good to beat the Hawks led by Farqers and Muzz. Until next time. Go Vultures!

19.01.2022 FRIDAY FLASH This weeks Friday Flashback is proudly brought to you by Just Mulching, if you need any trees removed get in contact with Tom Cunningham and dont forget to use our sponsors wherever possible. This week we are going back to the 1990/91 season and the Rd 6 2nd XI game against Blackburn at Livingstone. The team was captained by Neil Gardner and the side was Ian Bell, Chris Matthews, John Baxter, Mark Weatherill, Steve Tailby, Andrew Paroissien, Ron Wil...son, Neil Gardner, Mark Weibgen, Russell Else and Andy Collins. On this day Blackburn won the toss and elected to bat. Russell Else and Mark Wobbo Weibgen would take the new ball. The game started well with Russ getting the edge first ball to keeper Paro, 1/0. Russ would get another edge to Paro at 2/19 and when he caught and bowled the 3rd wicket, they were 3/34 and we were on top. Andy Conan Collins was then brought into the attack with his legendary leg spinners and he would take the 4th wicket in his 2nd over and at 4/35 we were steaming ahead. A small partnership was forming and Neil threw the ball to Ronnie Wilson. Ron, father of Robbie, played in the famous tied 1st XI flag 5 years earlier and still had guile with both bat and ball. Ron would break the partnership on 64 with a catch by Mark Bubs Weatherill in his first over. Two overs later on the last ball before tea, Hayes stepped back and attempted to pull Ron to the boundary, only to edge the ball into Paros head and it popped straight up and back to the bowler for a safe caught and bowled to Ron. Paro just rubbed it off as if it wasnt much! So at 6/67 Hayes was mightily unlucky to be out in that fashion, but Pazs hard head had assisted a caught and bowled. Several years later I also witnessed Paro batting at Nunawading when he attempted a hook shot and subsequently missed and came off his head and sailed over 3rd man for 6 leg byes! A stunned opposition watched Paro again just rub his head and then take guard for the next ball! After tea Conan would be the destroyer and take the final 4 wickets; 2 caught by Bubs and 2 stumpings to Paro - so the head knock hadnt affected him! Conan finished with 5/32, Else 3/25 and Wilson 2/11 and we were left to chase 102. Matthews and Bell opened the innings and we had 25 overs to finish the first day. Matthews fell for 14 with the score on 45. This would bring Baxter to the crease and we would end the day at 1/65. Week 2 would start with Bell and Baxter continuing. Bell went early for 40 and at 2/70 Bubs would make his way to the crease. JB and Bubs would add 156 for the 3rd wicket and wrap a pretty easy victory. JB fell for 55 at 226 and Bubs would finish 101 not out after bringing up his century with a 3. Bubs must have been in his prime as he ran six 3s in this innings, plus four boundaries and three 6s. We finished 3/236 dec; Bubs 101no & man of the match, JB 55 and Bell 40. Another great Vulture victory. Until next week, go Vultures! See more

16.01.2022 THROW THURSDAY This week the Prez has headed back to round 5 of the 1996/97 season, our 1st XI in Macintosh Shield vs Vermont @ Livingstone - the battle of Terrara Rd. We won the toss and sent Vermont in to bat. Our team included a young player playing his 1st game in the firsts: Steve Staddon - the 109th 1st XI cricketer at the club. The team was D Harbinson, D Mann, Rob Wilson, G Matthews, Matt Emery, M Arnot, D Milne, S Staddon, M Weibgen, C Smith and B Roberts ...- a very handy lineup. Also handy that Daryl Meade was on the book and the scoresheets were immaculate as ever! With Roberts and Arnot opening the bowling we had the Eagles in trouble at 4/19. By the tea break Vermont had crept to 5/68 off 38 overs - which no doubt would have pleased Lurch! After tea, Stewart made 62 and we were able to dismiss Vermont for 148 off 75 overs. Wickets were shared with Roberts taking 2/25, Arnot 2/35, Smith 2/27 and Mark Wobs Weibgen taking a handy 4/35 off 22.5 overs. We had 3 overs to bat to finish the day and were 1/4 at the end of play with Dale Harbinson being run out. The second day would see us needing another 145 for victory, thinking it would be an easy target with Graham Matthews in form again this season. Well we lost our second wicket at 15 when Dave Mann was caught behind. This brought Lurch to the crease, but his innings was short, having to retire hurt after only 1 ball. We then slipped to 4/18 and the target of 149 seemed along way away! When Arnot was out for 17 and the score 5/41, the young Steve Staddon in his first game came in to bat with Milney. Milney departed soon after to see us 6/47. This brought Wobs to the crease and a partnership of 42, before Wobs departed for 7. Cam Smith made his way out and quickly returned with a second ball and we were 8/89, still needing another 60 runs. Lurch returned and he and Stadz would see us to tea at 8/99 off 35 overs. After tea Stadz would dominate this partnership and get us to 149. He was dismissed for a brilliant 80, with the score 9/179. Barry Roberts came in and made 13 and when he was dismissed, we were all out 205 with Lurch 42no. Stadz was clearly Man of Match and was the beginning of a great 1sts career that has seen many innings of this type since. Another win for the Vultures and even more sweeter beating the Eagles from up the road! Feel free to share your memories from this game in the Comments. See more

14.01.2022 THROW THURSDAY Throwback Thursday has become so popular our sponsors want in on the action! So this weeks edition is brought to you by Vermont South Gourmet Meats in the Vermont South Shopping Centre - please support them where you can. Were going back to the 1992/93 Season. Paul Mahon was Captain Coach and Neil Gardiner captained the 2nd XI playing in the A2 grade. The game we are reviewing is the A2 grand final between Vermont South and Blackburn being played at E...ast Burwood Reserve. Our 2nd XI team for this game was, N Gardiner (c), J Baxter, A Paroissien, S Tailby, M Weatherill, S Murray, C Matthews, Matt Emery, D Hill, A Collins, D Jones and S Plumridge (12th man). A young team with 5 players under 20 and 9 under 25. We won toss and elected to bat with Baxter and Gardiner opening the batting and putting on a handy 72 before Gardiner was out for 22. Paro then came and went for 13 and then JB was dismissed for a well made 44 - the score was 3 for 93. This brought Mark BUBS Weatherill to the crease. Bubs was a proven Grand Final performer and looking to keep his winning streak going in the big game. Bubs and Tubs would add 79 runs for the 4th wicket before Tubs was out for 16. Murray, Matthews and Emery all went cheaply and took the score along to 7 /205 bring the self proclaimed allrounder Derek Hill to the crease. Decker would make quick 14 and with Bubs being dismissed for a well made 90. We would fall to 9/228 with Collins and Jones to bat. We finished the innings with a total of 236. Blackburns innings would see our bowling attack of young firebrands Jones and Hill, the experience of Gardiner and guile of leg spinner Andy Conan Collins and Styx Emerys medium pacers. Jones and Gardiner opened the attack and Jonesy quickly dismissed both openers cheaply having Blackburn on the back foot at 2/18. The Heads then added 39 for the 3rd wicket before and then Hill removed the dangerous Lachie Head for 41. At 6/99 we were well in control and on the way to a premiership a 7th wicket partnership was broken by a Steve Murray runout before Derek Hill wrapped up the tail, dismissing Blackburn for 178. A 58 run victory with Hill finishing with 4/39 Jones 2/38 and Collins 2/39. Mark Weatherill man of the match with a well made 90. Another Vulture Premiership and against Blackburn was surely one to saviour! Feel free to share your memories from this game in the Comments.

Lets go back to the dim, dark past 1987-88 for a 2nd XI game against Nunawading. This was a year that the 2nds took all before them to win the flag easily. This week we remember back to 1988/89 for a 7th XI game against Burwood Districts at Namarra Primary School. 13.01.2022 FLASH FRIDAY This weeks Flashback Friday is proudly brought to you by Ray Bright Cricket Coaching. Please support our sponsors wherever possible. This week we go back to the C2 grade 6th XI Round 4 1994/95 match against Burwood Districts at Lynden Reserve. Dave Sando was captain and his team was Chris Slaweski, Tim Johns, Brett Birthisel, Steve Staddon, Dave Sando, Paul Farquhar, Brad Crick, Darren Capon, Craig Davis, Craig Boyd and Mark Emery.... Dave won the toss and elected to bat. Slaweski and Johns opened up and put on 38 before Johns was dismissed for 24. This brought Birthisel to the crease and he was seeing them well a 54 run partnership was had before Slaweski fell for 13. This would bring a 15 year old Steve Staddon to the crease and one of the rare occasions he didnt trouble the scorers being caught with the score on 3/93. Dave Sando came in and added 19 with Birthisel before Brett fell for 48 including 11 x 4s. A 16 year old Paul Farquhar then headed out to bat and at 4/112 we had some work to do to set a decent total. Its fair to say that Farkez must have been seeing them well on this day. He added 32 of the 48 run partnership with Sando, before Dave departed for 19 and then added 31 of the 32 run partnership with Brad Crick before Brad was run out for 1. 6/193 would become 7/193 when Darren Capon was bowled for a . Plenty of work to do to set a score and Craig Davis made his way out to join young Farquhar. Farkez would move along to 98 and a partnership of 61 with CD before he was bowled for 7. 8/254 looked better and Craig Boyd came in. Farqs would bring up his 100 and make 50 of the 57 run partnership before one of Paros cousins bowled Boydy for 5. Stones came in and when he was run out for a , we had made 330 with Farqers making a magnificent 167 not out which include 25 x 4s and 7 x 6s! Bowling on Day 2 we would have CD and Stones open up. CD would strike in the 1st over before Stones would strike next, having them 2/9. Davis would take the next 2 to have them 4/49. Crick bowled well without luck before Slaweski would come into the attack and secure the next 3 leaving them 7/112. A 50 run partnership formed so the Captain brought himself into the attack getting the breakthrough with a stumping from Craig Boyd and then Slaweski finished the innings with a wicket - all out on 166. Slaweski took 4/60 Davis 3/25, Emery 1/30 and Sando 1/9. Burwood District would bat again and finish the day 3/116 Stones 2/50 and Sando 1/10 the wicket takers. The match would belong to Farkez, 167no (the opposition only made 166!) and a team effort in the field. Look out for some Cup Eve memories in the coming weeks to celebrate the Spring Carnival. we should be playing again soon. Until next time, Go Vultures!

11.01.2022 FRIDAY FLASH Brought to you by Paroissien Accountants a long time sponsor of the Vultures and as always please support our sponsors where ever possible. Today I continue on the 94/95 season and we will Flashback to the Rd 11 game against Blackburn North. This was a record breaking season for the club as previously mentioned and this match would see some more.... Blackburn North won the toss and elected to bat. Our team for the match being played at Livingstone was R Hammerton, S Plumridge, D Mann, G Matthews, T Harbinson, D Milne, M Weatherill, S Murray, R Wilson, M Arnot and D Hill. Our bowling line up was experienced and we would take 55 overs to dismiss Blackburn North for 116. The figures were Murray 8 overs 2/16, Arnot 8 overs 0/25, yes I found 2 games where Arnie didnt get a wicket, didnt think this was possible. Harbinson 7 overs 2/14, Hill 6 overs 1/14, came into the side as Jonesys replacement after Christmas. Matthews 8 overs 0/11 Plumridge 11 overs 3/21 and Wilson 7 overs 2/13. A well shared scorecard by the bowlers and put us right on top. Hammerton and Plumridge opened up with Ross going for 1 in the 2nd over Manny went for 6 not long later and we were 2/37 at the end of the days play. Turning up on week 2 requiring another 80 runs for victory Plumridge and Matthews would start the day. Plumridge would be dismissed with only another 5 runs added for 32 and us at 3/42. Troy came in to bat and made 28 in a 58 run partnership leaving us 4/100. Milney would come into bat and with finals only a week away Lurch was keen for a good partnership and some much needed time in the middle. Lurch and Milney would add 227 undefeated for the 5th wicket which is still a club 1st XI record to this day. Lurch would finish with 128 no contributing 99 runs in the partnership. Milney would finish 114 no, his 1st and only century in the 1sts I am told, but what a way to do it with a club record partnership! We would win the game by 221 runs and go on and win the premiership weeks later. A great team effort by the bowlers and Lurch and Milney starring with the bat. Keep the feedback coming. Go Vultures!

11.01.2022 Well done to the 1st XI who defeated Bulleen Templestowe today to regain the Graham Matthews Shield. Matthew Bright awarded Man of the Match.

08.01.2022 FRIDAY NIGHT ACTION @ LIVINGSTONE Some great photos of our U16A & U12B games thanks to Field of View Sports Photography.

08.01.2022 THROW THURSDAY Our President recently found some old scorebooks while in iso and he thought we could take a trip down memory lane and recall some great performances from Vultures past. Our first Throwback goes back to the 1995-96 season. C2 grade 6th XI captained by Dave Sando. This team was widely known and self named by the captain as the World XI - Round 5 vs Forest Hill @ Mitcham Tech. Forest Hill won the toss and sent Vermont South in to bat.... The Vultures side read: C Budd, A Booth, B Mason, C Boyd, M King, D Griffin, D Capon, D Sando, Mark Emery, J Finch and D Symes. We had slumped to 8/82 with Ash slug Booth 27, Darren Capon 22 the only double figure scores at that point (Griffin a paltry 1). Mark Emery and Jon Finch (a 72 run stand with Stones 26) then took the score to 154. Stones dismissal bought Dean Symes to the crease (yes batting at 11, not like the opener he is today). Finchy & Symesy would bat out the day and put on 89 runs unbroken for the 10th wicket! Finchy making 108no and Symes 12no and our score was 9/243. (For those who remember, Finchy would in the weeks after this maiden century decorate his bat with Finch 108 as his bat sponsor!). J Thompson for Forest Hill took 6/85 of 37 overs & yes opened the bowling and bowled unchanged from 1 end! Forest Hills innings commenced the following week with our opening bowlers of Finch and Emery. (Yes for those that only know Stones bowling slow these days, he used to come of 13-14 paces and bowl some handy medium pacers!). I think Captain Sando would have been happy when we had them 8/127 & would have been working on his post game match report back at the club rooms! But Thompson and Turner would put on 83 for the 9th wicket taking the total to 210 before Stones got the dangerous Thompson out for 120. Finchy then took the final wicket to see the Vultures defeat Forest Hill 210 all out. Jon Finch clear Man of the Match with 108no and 4/49 off 27 overs! 06.01.2022 THROW THURSDAY This weeks Throwback Thursday is proudly brought to you by Aussie Home Loans Blackburn, thanks to Lee Mundy for his support and remember to support our sponsors wherever possible. Today I will take you back to the 1994/95 season. Our 3rd XI captained by Vulture great Mark Weibgen are taking on Vermont in a Rd 11 game at Terrara Park on 25/2 & 4/3. Mark Weibgen known as Wobs or Wobbo to all was captain for the first time this season, and we were s...itting on 5 wins and 5 losses. Wobs was a self proclaimed top order bat who dabbled in medium pace bowling, often taking the new ball as all good captains do. He was yet to realise his calling as an off spinner! Vermont would win the toss and elect to bat. Our side on this day was Darren Parker, Andrew Oxley, Mark Weibgen, Scott Cartledge, Bill Davis Jnr, Lionel Hill, A Ruiperez, David Plumridge, Reece Evans, Michael Tutchener and Brett Johnston. Evans and Wobs opened the attack with Reece getting the 1st early having Vermont 1/6. Wobs had no luck early and brought Tutchener into the attack. Tutchy one of the all time leading wicket takers at Vermont South wouldnt let his captain down today taking 2 early wickets leaving Vermont 3/51. With the score on 76, Tutchy would strike again and the Vultures were on top. Wobs would then snag 2 in an over, both caught by Reece and at 6/111 we were up and about. A handy run out had them 7/129, before the tail started to wag. Plumridge would break the partnership on 180 before Tutchy finished off the innings on 228. Tutchy finished with 4/67, Wobs 2/24 off 13 overs, Evans 1/44, Plumridge 1/47. A chaseable target and we would have 4 overs to see out the day. Darren Parker and Andrew Oxley opened up and had us 0/15 at stumps. Day 2 would come and Wobs was determined to finish the season with a win, he already had 3 x 50s and a 90 for the season and was looking to go big! Parker and Oxley resumed before Parker on 15 snicked it behind and we were 1/23. In strides Wobs to join Ox. They ticked the score along to 56 before Ox was caught for 31, this would bring Scotty Cartledge to the crease. A 162 run partnership would set up the win with Wobs making a fine 105 before being caught. He finally got the big and it was certainly a Captains knock. Billy Davis would make a quick fire 12, but would be there for the winning runs. So at 4/233 Lionel Hill would join Scotty and he would make 29. The only thing left was for Scotty to also get a ton, but alas he would be given out LBW on 97. With Ruiperez 8 not out, Wobs would declare the innings closed. Vermont would bat again but 2/19 off 4.1 overs would see the match end. Tutchy taking 2/6. But it was all about Wobbo. He gave himself Man of Match deservedly with 105 and 2/24. Tutchy 4/67 and 2/6 and Scotty Cartledge 97 all worthy performances. Another great Vulture win and I am sure Wobs will be able to add some more detail in the Comments below. Until next time. Go Vultures!

03.01.2022 With recent Government announcements, and assuming health metrics are met, we are planning for: 1. Outdoor training can resume October 26, exact size of group(s...) are to be determined 2. Matches will commence November 14 A working party of 7 club presidents and the CoM have determined: A. Play will commence on Saturday November 14, under the assumption health metrics are met and the rules of the day allow B. The season will consist of 14 one day games, including finals, there will be no two day cricket C. 80 and 70 over grades only will be offered in the one day format Junior cricket will be aiming for the same start date pending further information and understanding they can probably cope with less pre season. Juniors are a little different from a fixturing perspective with the need to work more closely with RDCA & ECA. Veterans cricket is to be advised but will take a strong lead from Saturday afternoon cricket in terms of timing. The season start date and one day cricket only is consistent with Cricket Victoria recommendations and also aligned with other metropolitan competitions. There are ongoing meetings between Cricket Victoria along with state and local government seeking clarification about resumption of training and matches. We are also seeking clarification on Covid practices clubs and venues will need to have in place to ensure training and games can proceed. Continual updates are being shared with your club presidents and will be provided as the picture becomes clearer. With regional Victoria easing restrictions, including non contact sport commencing, as well as other states, and territories, starting their seasons we will have real examples of how the new environment looks and operates to help us get our season going. Stay safe. BHRDCA CoM

01.01.2022 This weeks THROW THURSDAY is proudly brought to you by Ray Bright Cricket Coaching - make sure you support our sponsors where possible. This game takes us back to Rd3 of the 94/95 season. This would be Graham Matthews first season at the club and what a season it was. We won both 1sts and 2nds premierships and had several other sides playing finals. The game we are reviewing today is Rd3 vs St Davids in A1 grade. The side was R Hammerton, N Tovey, D Mann, G Matthews, T Ha...rbinson, D Milne, S Murray, A Paroissien, R Wilson, M Arnot and D Jones. Lurch won the toss and elected to bat and we opened up with Hammerton and Tovey. Unfortunately Nath was bowled early for 5 at 1/18. Dave Mann would then stride to the crease coming off a 94 in Rd2. Manny was full of confidence and he & Ross would take us to 1/96 off 38 overs at the tea break, a great foundation to build on. Hammer was out shortly after Tea for 52 with the score on 105, Lurch joined Manny at the crease looking for another great partnership like the week before. Dave would make a great 121 and was heard to say later that night, if we had brought Lurch to the Vultures 5 years earlier, I could have made another 1000 runs for this club! They had put on a massive 207 runs for the 3rd wicket and at 3/312 we were in control. Lurch would fall 2 balls later for 117, his 2nd 100 in as many games and just the start of a fine first season. Harbo would fall In the next over for 1, sitting with the pads on all day wouldnt have helped Troys cause. Milney and Muzz would see the day out with us finishing on 5/340cc, Milney 13no and Muzza 12no. The following week defending 340 we would open the attack with two left armers: Mark Arnot and Darren Jones. Jonesy was bowling inspired. His 1st had the opposition 1/9 then 2/16 & when he took his 3rd they were 3/29. Joker would finish his 1st spell of bowling with 4/21 off 9 overs and the score at 4/47. Muzza and Harbo would then come into the attack and when Muzz got his 1st, they were 5/55. Troy bowled a 7 over spell that included 6 maidens and he finished with 0/1. Lurch would come into the attack and get 1/35 off 17 overs, breaking a 51 run 6th wicket partnership. Muzza finished with 2/23 off 14 overs. Surprisingly Arnie would finish with figures of 0/44 off 21 overs and Rob Wilson 0/31. However the with the ball was Darren Jones: 17 overs 5/36. Joker would only play the 7 games up until Christmas this season before heading to America for 12 months of work experience. He still tells us that he gifted Derek Hill a grand final spot and cost himself the chance of playing in that 1sts premiership. Its always a great discussion over some beers . St Davids would finish with 9/183cc off their 80 overs. A 157 run win to the Vultures highlighted by Mannys 121, Lurchs 117 and Jonesys 5/36. Look out for a flashback Friday tomorrow with another great effort from this record breaking season! Go Vultures!
