22.01.2022 Back in 2007, this another beautiful client, came to us for a pedicure, she did not know she had Primary Lymphedema, this is her foot before and after a MLD session with me on the same day. When she came in she could not stand on her feet, or walk, and was in terrible pain. No medical person could help her and were at that time not identifying Primary Lymphedema. This was also before and with no compression, as early as 13 years ago there was not much talk about compression as it is today.

20.01.2022 Compression Flat knit or Circular knit. Medical grade compression is generally tight and if it is not then it’s not graded compression. Usually it’s tighter at the ankles and gets less towards the top of the leg. 100 percent to 0. The compression weight is important for any form of oedema. Swelling, leg aches, fatigue will get a result with a pressure grade of level 1, 15 to 21 mmHg of pressure. For those with more lymphedema compression level 2 or 3. Level 2 is 23-32 m...mHg and Level 3 34-46mmHg. Flat knit can be a stiffer material than circular knit, however when wearing Level 2 and 3 the stocking will be tight to get on and tight to wear, flat knit or circular knit the compression weight is the same, perhaps circular knit may be a little easier getting them on and off. However there may be good reasons why flat knit may suit your condition better. Getting used to them is important as non compliance of wearing compression stockings is quite common, I believe it is because many are put in strong compression too soon. Best to build up to wearing higher level than jump in straight away. Our graded compression leggings Model 42 would be best for anyone to start, it’s a Level 1, has good stretch and then you are able to move into Model 83 Level 1, then Level 2 and if needed Level 3. You may find by the time you wear the Level 1 more consistently you may not need to move into a stronger compression. Below is a picture of a leg wearing compression thigh high stocking on the right and the left not wearing any compression.

13.01.2022 Stephen presented with numbness in his left little finger and pain in his left shoulder and arm. After evaluating I am of the opinion Steve has adhesive capsulitis, a painful condition in which the movement of the shoulder becomes limited. Frozen shoulder occurs when the strong connective tissue surrounding the shoulder joint (called the shoulder joint capsule) become thick, stiff, and inflamed. Steve’s back, neck, shoulders, occiput ridge were also very tight and restrictive.

09.01.2022 Conclusion to MLD treatments for Post Covid Symptoms. Manual Lymphatic Drainage was performed on two post Covid subjects. One Male aged 61 years and one Female aged 51 years. Both contracted Covid in July 23rd and 26th July 2020.... MLD was started on January 22nd 2020. Post Covid symptoms for both subjects were fatigue, shortness of breath on exertion, severe pain in the sternum and Xiphoid process. The male still had very slight cough, the female did not. After the first MLD treatment the symptoms were considerably less. Fatigue, breathing restrictions and chest pain. The second and third MLD treatment resulted in no chest pain, fatigue practically negligible, dealing with stressful situations more manageable. On the fourth treatment both subjects noticed the need to cough more, the male suggested the coughing had gone from a dry cough to a wet cough. The female who had a better result with dealing with stress more effectively, chest pain and her fatigue was negligible, however she had noticed she was coughing more throughout the day. At the conclusion of all MLD treatments both subjects noticed that their coughing had increased, slight breathlessness on exertion but chest pain and laboured breathing had gone, although the coughing had increased it was more annoying than painful. We have decided to cease further treatments and evaluate further in a few weeks.

08.01.2022 What does Compression mean and why do I need it? By Veronica Watson Remedial Massage Therapist, Lymphatic Drainage Therapist. As a massage and lymphatic therapist for the last 20 years I have seen the concept of compression develop into an artform, especially for those suffering from Lymphedema or Lipedema. For those suffering with fatigue, leg pain, aches and heaviness as well as oedema issues, compression is a wonderful support to address many of these problems....Continue reading

07.01.2022 Circular knit compression and regular manual lymphatic drainage can get some amazing results. Here is a client who has been wearing model 42 for 4 weeks. Plus 1 hour of our compression socks during a mld treatment. She's amazing. Also being very aware of what foods to avoid.

04.01.2022 These are the type of Round Knit garments I am researching. Pantyhose footless High Waisted Sizes go from small to XXXL Colours: Black and Beige 70% Nylon... 30% Spandex Level 1 15-21 mmHg Level 2 23-32 mmHg Model 96. The compression on these circular knit panty hose are quite strong, similar to flat knit but very effective in their compression. Model 42 and 83 are easy to put on and have very good compression. Similar to Bioflect, Soldea etc. however do not have the waffle weave. The panty part is not graded or tight, so easy to wear. Ideal for those wanting to begin wearing compression with quality graded compression. The compression is more effective and comparable to some of the other brands. Model 42 Compression pantyhose footless High waisted Sizes go from small to XXXL Colours: Black and Beige 70% Nylon 30% Spandex Level 1 10-20 mmHg Level 2 23-32 mmHg Model 83 Compression pantyhose footless Low waisted Sizes go from small to XXL Colours: Black and Beige 70% Nylon 30% Spandex Level 1 15-21 mmHg Level 2 23-32 mmHg Level 3 34-46 mmHg In conclusion I was quite sceptical when I first examined these garments, thinking the other softer more well known brands with the waffle weave would be more popular. However, since wearing both Level 1 and Level 2 in the very stiff circular knit for those that need stronger compression, I found quite a significant change in my body and very comfortable after wearing for a day or so, still tight getting on and off but a minor inconvenience for the results I got. Wearing the softer compression in both Level one and two I was delighted with the ease of getting them on and off, and the compression probably better effect than I had with Bioflect and comparable brands. The positive initiative with these compression panty hose are: The stockings are lighter and cooler so perhaps ideal for summer. Cooler than other brands I tried. They can be worn as stockings or alternatively leggings with a top. You can purchase stronger compression and lighter feel compression and work your way into wearing the stronger ones. Day on day off. Cost effective. Contact me for details.

03.01.2022 Edema or Lymphedema what’s the difference. VERONICA WATSONFRIDAY, 12 FEBRUARY 2021 Edema is the body’s normal response to an injury such as a sprain. As healing progresses, the excess fluid leaves the area and the swelling goes down. Lymphedema is a condition that occurs when the lymphatic system is impaired to the extent that the amount of lymphatic fluid within a given area exceeds the capacity of the lymphatic transport system to remove it.... Edema is usually caused by excess tissue fluid that had not yet returned to the circulatory system. Lymphedema is swelling caused by excess protein-rich lymph trapped within the tissues. Edema due to an injury, such as bumping into something, is caused by additional tissue fluid coming into the area to help with healing. Lymphedema impaired tissues respond to injury with slow healing and/or a potentially serious infection. Edema is also caused by circulatory system problems, such as chronic venous insufficiency, and this swelling usually occurs in the lower areas of the body. Lymphedema is caused by damage to the lymphatic system and this swelling occurs near the affected area. See more
