25.01.2022 Clean pad. Sheds delivered. Off to work
24.01.2022 The new driveway is coming along well. Nearly 2 tonnes of road base and then about 700kgs of sand compacted today. Bricks arrive next week.
24.01.2022 Watch this space
21.01.2022 Here's what I did with the timber in the photo I posted on April 6. Adirondack chairs. Custom built for a height tall enough to see over the balustrade. The wife wanted a stool for her feet. The centre table is big enough for heaps of horses douvres and drinks. If anyone would like their own, let me know and we can discuss. These are made with galvanised screws and cross bracing has also been added for maximum rigidity. H3 treated pine also used. They'll last for decades. The pine means they are also fairly lightweight for their size.
21.01.2022 Let's see what can be made with these pieces of timber this week....
20.01.2022 Stay tuned.... Awaiting council approval today for the build of a 60 sq metre shed with verandah for my client in Northam. Its gonna be huge!!! Depending on all contractors, build should start around February 2019.
20.01.2022 Pretty much done. Final touches on the bathroom after stud wall completion and door being hung. Plumber now to do a few things and electrician to work his magic
20.01.2022 A well used kitchen that had served its time - out the door. Replaced with a fantastic new kitchen. The Client needed it fairly quickly, planned the set up and put most of the cupboards together for install. Thanks to Jordan Pearce for his carpentry assistance to get the job completed with great results. We retained most of the original flooring. The Client matched it as close as possible to avoid reflooring the entire unit. Simple design that has completely opened up the unit and added a breakfast bar.
18.01.2022 The new driveway is starting to take shape. The old uneven recycle bricks are proving to be a challenge with the herring bone pattern.
18.01.2022 Form work commenced in preparation for 80sqm shed!
18.01.2022 Local business engaging local business. Two signs affixed at Cafe 643. You gotta get their coffee and toasties - scrumptious!
17.01.2022 TRIF figures not good now that only employee required xrays and minor surgery for removal of rose thorn. 0 days since last injury
17.01.2022 Recently installed a fence to keep the little ones protected from the spa. Please ignore the barrel distortion on the photo. This is the lens error that makes the out limits of straight lines look on an angle. The fence is perfectly straight.
17.01.2022 Here it is! Earlier in the year I posted a photo of Watch this space. The Client has now fully completed the painting and feature - Great job!!!! Perfectly matches the house and existing carport structure. Instead of small cumbersome steel sheds filling up the rear of the carport, a timber structure with weather resistant panelling was constructed to enclose the end of the carport by about 120cm in depth. The length is about 6 metres. Shelving has been created, and sliding doors for easy access even when the cars are parked under the carport. The storage area is completely secured and blends in with the house. The kids wanted to know what I was building at the start. I told them it was a jail cell for badly behaving children!!! They knew I was joking...
16.01.2022 If needed, I can put a new edge on your trusty kitchen knife. I hate using blunt knives. Ill do $20 per knife or 3 for $50. I do it old school without machines so there is a lot of care taken to preserve the blade.
16.01.2022 Replaced a worn and termite eaten set of front door stairs. The new ones are ready for the client to paint. These have been raised off the ground with a sub frame under the bottom step set in galvanised stirrups and then into concrete. The railing is also attached to the side of the steps but then set in stirrups into concrete also. Bugle head 10 gauge screws were used for super strength. Its been built to last.
15.01.2022 Most mornings, a few ladies from the hood and myself meet for our dogs to play and exercise. This week I was asked what I was up to. In a strong Kiwi accent, I replied that I was cleaning and oiling my deck. This response was met with shock! Until I explained. If you dont get the joke, then see this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6c4Nupnup0 Its come up pretty good in the before and after photos.
15.01.2022 The fencing has now been replaced. Old lawn being removed as ground level is to high for new automatic gate recess. A few bits of retic repair needed but all in good time. The dingo made mince meat of the lawn clearance thanks heaps to Troy.
15.01.2022 Ellens Cubby House is almost complete. Just a few trims and paint to finish off. Thanks to Jayson, Darryl, Michael, and Pieter for assistance with the cladding and roof yesterday. This play area is designed for strength and longevity, but also to be disassembled fairly easily for relocation if ever required. We had four big blokes standing on it yesterday and there was no movement. The floor is 3 mtrs long by 2 mtrs wide. The house area is 2 x 2 mtrs and 2 mtrs high. A door can easily be fitted if desired.
13.01.2022 Just completed. A great looking deck for entry into the front door. Client did a great job staining it.
12.01.2022 End of day 3. Quicker progress than anticipated. Drizzled rain all day. Burnt out a heavy duty concrete drill tho!
11.01.2022 Nearing the end. Driveway complete now. Picket fence has had first coat of paint. Lawn seeds planted this morning before the rain. Ill install the auto gate engine this week hopefully and its complete. The lawn is starting lower than normal. As it grows, it will be built up to the height of the surroundings. Better to start off low than too high
10.01.2022 Yes its been a while since I have posted anything. I have had some recovery time after my back surgery and am now getting back into things whilst painting the house! Its taking some time to prep the walls, fix old windows etc. I have though recently finished a little project on my car which the lovely Carolyn said I should post. I bought a drop slide to have easier access to the fridge in the car and the cage they recommended was bigger than expected. There was a large gap either side. So I pushed the fridge to one side and made this picnic holder. When you pull the fridge out, the holder comes out with it. It has champagne, scotch and wine glasses, plates, bowls, cutlery, stubby holders, bottle opener, cutting board and of course - salt and pepper. Yes, I still have to remove the stickers on the stuff...
08.01.2022 Weather good so roofing has commenced. Wire underlay then anticon insulation, then the tin. Half done today
06.01.2022 Just finished a balustrade and replacing a set of stairs. The balustrade before photo has been photobombed by the buttox of a wonderful Great Dane. The balustrade is to assist in climbing the stairs for the clients mother who had to over extend and use the side of the house. It blends in nicely to the existing colour scheme of the house. The new stairs replace the old that didnt quite extend the width of the area creating a danger. These have also been designed to allow access under the rear deck if ever required.
06.01.2022 Getting there...
05.01.2022 I know.... i said i wouldnt be posting lots of Humphrey videos. But you gotta see this video. My Head of Security was enrolled in snake avoidance training this morning with a few of his friends Rosie and Bobbi. This video is the first time HBB was introduced to a non venomous snake. Numerous dogs dont see the snake at first like HBB who stood on it before he realised it was there. An e- collar was used to train him to stay away. The trainer beforehand put the e-collar on our arms and some of us couldnt even feel it it was on such a low setting. It doesnt take long before the dog learns to keep a distance from the snakes. See the Animal Ark website for more details. I highly recommend this training as the mortality rate of dogs bitten by snakes is far too high. Any way to reduce the risk is a bonus
04.01.2022 New deck constructed. The client has finished it with staining and oiling. Absolutely magnificent.
04.01.2022 I found over the past few years that the limestone wall around our pool was settling and a few cracks in the limestone became obvious. These cracks were very evident to the eye. To avoid any further cracking and to retain a little more integrity, I exposed the cracks further and drilled a bone shaped hole across the joints. I then wedged a galvanised bolt with large washers and nuts snuggly into the hole, filled it full of chemset (very hard chemically setting compound) and filled it back up with crme mortar. You cant see the bone shape unless you look really close. I dont think the blocks will crack again that easily!
04.01.2022 Roof, corner trims, and capping now finished. Only gutters and downpipes left
02.01.2022 Video of final result
02.01.2022 After day two the side walls, rafters, girts, and lean to are ready for erecting in the morning. Ropes and anchors all set. Securing to concrete ready to go. Its now beer oclock.
02.01.2022 At the end of week 2 (only 3 working days really), the rear and lean-to side wall have been cladded. Including the installation of the personal access door and one window. Large sliding door has been fabricated with header beam installed and strengthened to support sliding door. Next week is hang door and roof time. The roof will have mesh laid first, then the anticon insulation over this before the sheets are fixed.
02.01.2022 Lets see what can be made with these pieces of timber this week....
01.01.2022 Please suggest a caption for this photo of the employee of the month
