04.01.2022 Another old rule that needs discussion. How many times do I hear that the diameter of ideal Prusik cord (friction hitch cord) is given by halving the rope dia...meter and rounding up to the nearest mm. So, 11mm rope: 11/2 = 5.5 -> 6mm cord. Or 2/3 the diameter of the rope So, 11mm rope -> 7.3 -> 8mm cord. Well, sorry, but there is no such rule. Arborists laugh when they hear other techs quote these rules. If true, then how can a Blakes Hitch possibly work with the end of the rope hitched back onto itself? You can certainly tie a friction hitch with 11mm rope that holds on 11mm rope. It just has to be the right rope. The only rule should be that you must know how the cord you choose works with the rope you use. The concern is what strength you need from the friction hitch. 5mm is not strong enough. 6mm will not cut it for most applications.

02.01.2022 With COVID-19 demonstrating the potential risk presented by Biological agents, members of 3 CER pride themselves on the ability to respond and act to threats ac...ross the CBRN continuum. 16 TP, 16 CE SQN as the specialist CBRN element operated the Light Decontamination Station (LDS) in support of B SQN 2nd Cavalry Regiment. The activity allowed 16 TP to practically demonstrate an important capability and culminated some significant training on the Troops specialist capability over the previous weeks. This isnt the first time that 2 CAV and 16 TP have worked together in Decontamination, with A SQN 2 CAV conducting Vehicle Decontamination Trials in August 2019. This activity continued the Units integration training, allowing B SQN 2 CAV personnel to be exposed to a capability that many havent before. Although 16 CE SQN are now moving into a period of Combat Team specific training, this activity will provide a baseline for 16 CE TP to continue to build-off moving into September. #followthesapper #pheonixsquadron
