25.01.2022 Time for Jayson Westbury to go. The days of joking *not joking* about inflicting violence against women are over. Australian Federation of Travel Agents

24.01.2022 Interesting read in today's Women's Agenda. While women have borne the brunt of COVID-19 job losses, it is industries dominated by men that are receiving the stimulus.

18.01.2022 Today is equal pay day! What does that mean? Today marks the 59 additional days from the end of the previous financial year that women must work, on average, to earn the same amount as men earned that year. This is because Australia has a national gender pay gap of 14%. Now chances are that like us, you may have tried to have a discussion about this with someone who dismissed the gap for a number of reasons. Often this is because people don't understand how the pay gap exis...ts. So we've included a graphic below with the breakdown of what leads to the pay gap: discrimination, years out of the workforce etc.) Data courtesy of Workplace Gender Equality Agency! We'd love to see this data desegregated, to show the gap for women from differing backgrounds, with disabilities, and for migrant women. #EqualPayDay

17.01.2022 Bill Shorten is calling for Justice Dyson to be stripped of his Australian honours. We're saying prosecute him.

17.01.2022 This Reconciliation Week, as protests break out across the United States, we are reminded of the racism that exists on our shores. If you're not sure of the injustices happening right here in Australia, here are some facts below, courtesy of @afterworkdrinkspodcast This week is Reconciliation Week in Australia - the same week Rio Tinto (one of the world's largest mining corporations) destroyed a 46,000 year old Indigenous site to expand an iron ore mine.... Indigenous Australians make up 2 per cent of the national population but 27 per cent of the prison population. ALL children in juvenile detention in the Northern Territory are Indigenous. Indigenous deaths in custody have increased since 2018, with 424 deaths between the Royal Commission into Indigenous deaths in custody and August 2019. The life expectancy gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians is between 8 and 11 years. Asian-Australians have been the victims of horrendous targeted attacks during the COVID-19 crisis, and are subject to micro and macro aggressions and underhanded discrimination in day to day life. There is a social villainisation of African-diaspora people in Australia in both mainstream politics and media. In summary? Don’t shake your heads at the protests in America and think this is a situation removed from us. This is our issue too. The work starts at home! Do the work. 17.01.2022 Wonderful to have our CEO Christina Hobbs highlighted in this Women's Agenda article. There's never been a more important time for women to be supporting women in business.

16.01.2022 People have called COVID-19 a 'gendered crisis' for good reason. This year, women added homeschooling to their mental loads and many had their careers put on hold as they lost jobs or took on reduced hours. And it's no surprise women have picked up the slack. Before the pandemic, Australian women were already doing 72% of the unpaid domestic care. Even prior to COVID-19, women were working less paid hours than men, with a workforce participation rate that is almost 10% lowe...r than men. Women made up to 70% of the part-time workforce and were earning 14% less than men. Our economic futures were vulnerable before 2020, and this year has made things significantly harder. But as we come up for air and take stock of the impacts of COVID on women, there are some public policy decisions that can be made to help get women back on track. If you're wondering what steps can be taken and how we can help women recover from the pandemic, have a read of our take on how women can rise above COVID-19 here: https://bit.ly/2J656Ly

14.01.2022 We're thrilled to introduce Verve's first doggo staff member, Manuel! Manuel, the Frenchie enjoys pats, snacks, dismantling the patriarchy and snoozing in the sun. Manny was adopted by his mums, Ash and Ruby, when he was 18 months old. And while Ash can't imagine life without him, working from home has made Manny both the best coworker she's ever had - and the most demanding!... We are so excited to finally have a Verve team dog! Welcome Manuel!!

14.01.2022 Women have be the worst hit by COVID-19, yet very little of this budget (that we pay for thorugh our taxes) will be utilised to support our recovery. Where' is the money? #CredibleWomen #Budget2020

11.01.2022 Let's be real for a second. We know climate change is a genuine problem, but big Super Funds and Big Banks are still investing in fossil fuels. That's not the future we want! We believe that you can invest for a better world, and have good returns. This is how we do it. Yes Renewable Energy Yes Efficient Transport Yes Recycling ... No Coal No Gas No Oil

09.01.2022 Need a Monday morning pick-me-up? The National Council of Single Mothers and their Children have today launched a campaign called 550 reasons to smile, highlighting what the additional $550 Job Seeker Payment means to some of the people living in the most economically precarious situations. You can read the stories of women who are now able to afford fresh food, new shoes for their kids and other basic needs on the 550 Reasons to Smile facebook page. Some of the stories truly are heart warming. Let's amplify and share their voices and highlight what is possible when people are given a chance, and what is impossible (living on $40 a day) when they are not.

05.01.2022 Did you know your partner can share their super with you while you're not 'working' (or anytime)? Who knew?! Women make up the majority of part-time workers and stay at home parents doing the majority of unpaid work. And one of the leading reasons why women retire with, on average, 35% less super than men is down to the time women spend out of paid workforce as they care for family. But we shouldn’t be financially punished for raising children, caring for elderly pare...nts, or running a busy household *cough motherhood penalty*. It’s... kinda vital. Contribution splitting is one way to make our superannuation system more equitable. We've written an article all about it https://bit.ly/35wMMUo See more

05.01.2022 The average Australian mother spends 40 hours a week caring for a new baby. They spend 18 hours of breastfeeding. Full time, unpaid work. Yet in Australia no retirement benefit is paid to carers. It is National Breastfeeding week and at a time when much of the country has been locked down and businesses are closing their doors - breastfeeding will not stop. It will continue to contribute $3.6 billion in value to Australia's economy. ... We are in awe of all mothers, parents and carers right now (and always). You are all super heroes. 05.01.2022 Great reporting by Women's Agenda: "This latest AMP Capital CEO appointment is just one among many appointments that occur every day: just another one of the individuals who get promoted, celebrated and rewarded, despite a history of sexual harassment or some other kind of behaviour that’s damaged others."

04.01.2022 We know that companies that have more women in leadership perform better, and now recent research out by the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) is showing that it's more than just a 'correlation'. Meaning that it's not just that well performing companies promote women, rather that women drive improvements in performance! The study found a 'strong and convincing causal relationship' between increasing the share of women in leadership and a company subsequently performin...g better... Committing to gender equality is not only the right thing to do, its the smart thing to do. Yet over the past 5 years, women have still faced significant barriers preventing them from accessing leadership. As an example, less than 10% of ASX200 companies have a woman as a CEO. The full findings are really interesting... check them out here: https://www.wgea.gov.au//more-women-at-the-top-proves-bett NOTE: This is a gender equality report and it does not detail the inequalities experienced by black, indigenous, people of colour and migrant women. It does not address the fact that the LGBTQI community are vastly under-represented when it comes to company leadership. *Source: WGEA, Bankwest Curtin Economics Centre #financialequality #financialindependence #equality #women #money #feminism #WomenwithVerve #VerveSuper #genderequality #moneywisdom #intersectionalfeminism

01.01.2022 You may have seen the Government’s announcement to end the COVID-19 free childcare package for most Australian families. For many it has felt like a rug has been pulled from under our feet a step backwards at such a crucial moment. That’s why over the past week Verve has teamed up with some incredible organisations to launch a campaign to bring free childcare back, *for good and for all*. To sign onto the #MakeItFree campaign below. If you’re a business owner or empl...oyer you can pledge your support by adding your company logo to the campaign. Or ask your employer to sign on with you. The Government has shown us that this change is possible overnight. That's why we're demanding that the Government: Make early childhood education and care free PERMANENTLY for EVERY Australian family Ensure that every Australian family has access to quality childhood education and care Pay early childhood educators a FAIR wage Why is this issue so damn important? This is the boost to the economy Australia needs right now. For every $1 spent on childcare $2 flows into the economy. It has been reported that Australian parents spend almost four times as much as their international peers on childcare. Costing the average Australian family 17-31% of their household income. For many families under the current system, it only makes financial sense to have one parent to work full time and as we know, in most cases it is a woman who forgoes their salary, superannuation and career. 90% of brain development occurs in the first five years of a child’s life. Having access to quality early childhood education is something all children deserve, not just those who can afford it. Access to quality childcare is a key driver of productivity. It evens the playing field for workers, and improves access to the best talent pool of job applicants. Free childcare would generate 30,000 additional work days per week for the economy by better supporting parents to get back to work. Join us as we urgently call on the Government to reform the Early Childhood Education and Care system. www.makeitfree.co See more
