19.01.2022 The chokos are sprouting and the broad beans are flowering! That's as good a sign as any that the days are getting longer and that spring is coming. Hopefully the chill of winter and the mental endurance test of covid lock downs is being balanced out by the simple joys in your gardens. #permaculture #permaculturegarden #gardenlife #organicgardening #gardening #urbangardens #urbangardening #urbanagriculture #urbanfoodsystems #foodsecurity #growfood #growyourownfood #ediblegardens #veryediblegardens #veg #melbourne

16.01.2022 Hullo gardeners of Melbourne! It's planning time for a new short course/workshop, so here's a question for yee - if you could discover more about the weather in Melbourne and how it supports and affects your gardening, what would you like to know? Here's a nifty short form for you to offer your feedback, all of which will go toward developing a tailor-made course for the weather-curious gardeners of Melbourne. Form link: https://forms.gle/tqBsrvAMUHLn83op7 Thanks and looking forward to hearing your thoughts & to brewing up a nifty short course for y'all! Meteorologically yours, Jeremy@VEG

11.01.2022 Spot the cypress. Last week we installed a couple of Cypress beds, 1 wicking and 1 non wicking, if the free space around these DIY pine beds that were previously converted to wicking beds using VEG's wicking conversion kits. And how about the call to spring it the last photo!? We are beginning to see blossom around Melbourne as the daylight increases heading towards spring time. #cypress #cupressusmacrocarpa #goldencypress #montereycypress #ethicaltimber #localtimber... #wickingbeds #gardenbeds #raisedgardenbeds #vegetablegardens #veggiebeds #gardenlife #organicgardening #gardening #urbangardens #urbangardening #urbanagriculture #urbanfoodsystems #foodsecurity #growfood #growyourownfood #ediblegardens #veryediblegardens #veg #melbourne @ Brunswick, Victoria

11.01.2022 It’s official 2020 is the year of edible gardening! New edible gardens have sprouted all over the world in a way not seen since the victory gardens of the First and Second Worlds Wars, and this new report on a survey of Australian edible gardeners by Sustain: The Australian Food Network explores the reasons why. Spoiler: if you’ve got a garden it’s everything you’ve already known in your heart all along. What have you loved the most about having an edible garden during the lockdown?

09.01.2022 This has to be one of the coolest permablitz vids we've seen! Go Permablitz Bay of Plenty!

08.01.2022 What's in our kits? Here is a visual taste of what you'll get in one of our wicking bed conversion kits plus some optional extras. Potable water grade heavy duty (and very high quality) liner, geo fabric and all the plumbing you'll need to switch any existing garden new or old into a water efficient wicking bed. But wait there's more! Well even throw in detailed how to instructions and videos, a VEG grower's guide, a smile and a set of steak knives.... Hmmm ok maybe one of ...those things won't be showing up in your kit #wickingbed #wickingbeds #gardenbeds #raisedgardenbeds #vegetablegardens #veggiebeds #waterwisegardening #permaculture #permaculturegarden #gardenlife #organicgardening #gardening #urbangardens #urbangardening #urbanagriculture #urbanfoodsystems #foodsecurity #growfood #growyourownfood #ediblegardens #veryediblegardens #veg #melbourne @ Very Edible Gardens

03.01.2022 Every so often, we're reminded in words better than our own of just why we do what we do - what the cold morning starts, hours spent on laptops tweaking designs and answering emails and days shovelling bulk and lugging timber are really for. This is why. Shared with permission from a VEG (about to be repeat) client: "Hi Adam, I hope you’re well and finding your valuable knowledge and skills being increasingly sought after amongst these changed times! We are amazed that it’s b...een almost 1 year since you and the VEG team transformed our backyard! We’ve been loving it and it’s our favourite place on the property with many hours spent in the yard, albeit focused more on the little ones than garden tasks of late. We even birthed our second child in the backyard amongst all that thriving goodness. It was the most incredible experience having a garden birth. A few months back now as we continued to ask what more can we be doing in response to our climate crisis we realised we could expand what is happening on our property to the front yard and hopefully also inspire passers by through what they see and hopefully pick also. We realised walking past people’s properties that so much of that inspiration is missed when only in the backyard plus we’d love more growing space. So we’d love to talk and hire your services again for transforming the front yard and council strip. We also have a few ideas for adding some more to the backyard we’d love your input and assistance on." #permaculture #gardening #urbanagriculture #urbanfoodsystems #foodsecurity #edibleforestgardens #ediblelandscaping #veryediblegardens #veg

03.01.2022 "waiting for lunch" When looking for plant inspiration to fill particular niechs in our edible forest gardens I will often spend time observing and noting those plants and flowers that host and attract the largest diversity of insect life. Beneficial, sacrificial, good, bad, big, small, pollinators and the "what the feijoa is that thing!" This one is Dyers Chamomile which was found in a front yard and hosting so many critters (only 2 made it here) that it is now on my worthy ...contedors list with a couple of bonus points. "Modern" gardening has tended to demonise a lot of our insect friends just because they happen to enjoy eating those lush green leaves we like to flaunt at them. Step back, take a deep breath, relax, observe, learn, interact. Everything has a place. 01.01.2022 Fruit salad? Not something we plant regularly but every now and then the brief calls for maximum bang for your buck. These two little multi graft fruit salad trees will hopefully thrive and provide an amazing a variety of fruit in this Brunswick front yard. Sometimes, some grafts do better than others and you may end up with less variety than first thought but as they say, nothing ventured, nothing gained. It's a great time to plant your fruit trees with nurseries having rec...eived their bare rooted stock for the year and moisture levels being weighted towards precipitation over evaporation. . . #fruitsaladtree #edibleforestgardens #foodforest #foodforestdesign #edibleforestgardendesign #permaculturedesign #gardendesign #landscapedesign #permaculture #permaculturegarden #gardenlife #organicgardening #gardening #urbangardens #urbangardening #urbanagriculture #urbanfoodsystems #foodsecurity #growfood #growyourownfood #ediblegardens #veryediblegardens #veg #melbourne @ Very Edible Gardens
