18.01.2022 *CONDITIONS VOL 5 - VESTIBULAR Labyrinthitis * Similar to Vestibular Neuritis, however far less common and additional symptoms. Vestibular Labyrinthitis: ... Acute inflammation Infection of the fluids in the inner ear Can be bacterial or viral SYMPTOMS: Acute vertigo lasting 1-4 days Exacerbated by head movement Nausea and vomiting hearing loss or changes EXAMINATION: Horizontal nystagmus besting away from the affected ear Positive head-impulse test to affected side No Central signs VOR testing positive Acute Vestibular LABYRINTHITIS is a condition that can be difficult to assess and needs to be differentiated from TIA’s / Haemorrhage strokes Labyrinthitis is less common than other central causes of these symptoms and needs to be ruled out before treating for Labyrinthitis. The key is the changes in hearing compared to neuritis. A very useful exam is the cluster of tests called the HINTS exam. This HAS BEEN COVERED in PREVIOUS posts, but this exam assists in the differentiation between a acute Labyrinthitis and an acute vascular or central problem. #physio#vestibular #vestibularphysio #physiotherapy #vertigo #dizziness #anatomy #dpt #physicaltherapy #PT #rehab #sport #sportsphysio #dizzy #BPPV #nystagmus #neuro #epley #chiropractor #concussion #sportsphysiotherapy #BPPV #benignparoxysmalpositionalvertigo #ENT #med #medstudent #medical @ Gold Coast, Queensland See more

14.01.2022 *VERTIGO IS NOT A DIAGNOSIS* Too often does the patient story go down the line of I’ve been told I have vertigo and have been told it’s something I have to live with. Most likely have been prescribed Stemetil or a Vestibular suppressant with no other treatment or management plan for a condition that can benefit from vestibular rehabilitation. ... Unfortunately the vast majority of people do not know that there is such treatment. The common statement is I had no idea Physiotherapists or other health professionals can help with vertigo We can do better than this. The evidence is there to support it and we can be helping more people! #physio #vestibular #vestibularphysio #physiotherapy #vertigo #dizziness #anatomy #physicaltherapy #dpt #rehab #sport #sportsphysio #sportsphysiotherapist #osteopathy #chiropractic #dizzy #imaging #emergency #ED #primarycare #BPPV #vestibularmigraine #medical #medstudent #medicine #healthcare #acutecare #postoftheday @ Gold Coast, Queensland See more
