24.01.2022 AusCycling The VCV Committee are pleased to announce that last week our final active VCV club voted to join AusCycling in 2021. This means all currently active VCV clubs will affiliate with AusCycling and current members will be required to take out membership with AusCycling from 1st January 2021. Joining AusCycling presents an exciting opportunity for all Masters cyclists to join a progressive, structured and comprehensive governing body and race across multiple disci...plines for the cost of one licence. Members will still be covered by Personal Accident & Public Liability insurance provided by AusCycling. Club operations won't change and the things that are important to members - a sense of community, diverse racing opportunities, safety, friendships, good governance and member support won't alter. We are excited for the future of Masters cycling in Victoria and can't wait to see you all racing under the new AusCycling banner in 2021. 20.01.2022 RETURN TO RACING In light of the amendment to restrictions from 11.59pm Sunday 21st June, we are (at this stage) still working towards a return to racing from 20 July 2020. We are continuing to work with our Clubs on the new protocols required for Club activities to recommence in a COVID environment. Communication will be provided to all members shortly around the changes and the expectations of Clubs and members. ... 19.01.2022 COVID-19 & Competition update On 1st April, the VCV advice to all Clubs and Members was no racing and no group riding until future notice in light of stage 3 restrictions. We continue to support this advice. This week, the Victorian and Australian Governments have provided advice on the easing of restrictions.... The Victorian Government have now eased Stage 3 restrictions allowing exercise of groups up to 10 people, but the following restrictions still apply:- you MUST keep your distance (at least 1.5 metres apart) you MUST not do your activities indoors or be competitive; and you MUST not exceed 10 people. The Australian Government have adopted a 3 Step Framework for a Covidsafe Australia, with reference to the AIS Framework for Rebooting Sport. The advice from the AIS is that when slipstreaming whilst group riding, riders need to be at least 10 metres behind the rider in front. 10.01.2022 What started as an ambitious plan two years ago to bring together 19 cycling organisations to form one new unified nationwide organisation will now be realised - Cycling Australia. Our next VCV Committee Meeting on Wednesday 23rd Sept will give us a chance to have an informed & candid discussion on the Aus Cycling model. Steve Drake, Cycling Australia CEO will be in attendance for discussion and Q & A on anything related to AusCycling. 08.01.2022 This month marks the fifteenth anniversary of the tragic death of Australian cyclist Amy Gillett. This solemn milestone serves as a reminder of the inadequacy of current cycling and walking infrastructure across Australia. This year, 29 cyclists have already been killed on Australian roads, a 50% increase in cyclist fatalities in the first half of 2020 compared to the first half of 2019. In 2019, 19 cyclists were killed in the first half of the year (January to June), and 39 ...were killed in total last year. Congratulations to the following riders who had a win in their grade, A-Brodie Sims (new member), C - Terry Hodges, D- Amy Benham ,E- Allison Watt & no results in B grade as all riders were deemed to be having a nice leisurely Sunday ride. 05.01.2022 Last week the VCV Committee conducted its regular meeting by Zoom. As we have delegates from all over the State, representing all our Clubs, being able to connect and hear each other is important to the success of our cycling community. We have adapted well to this new way of meeting. Covid 19 and returning to racing were important points of discussion. At the meeting, the VCV resolved to:-... withdraw race sanctions until further notice appoint a Pandemic Safety Co-Ordinator to assist all member Clubs adhere to the regulations. Melanie Tudball, Treasurer has taken on this role. each club will be required to appoint at least one Pandemic Safety Officer ASAP to implement the practices required. If you would like to be involved, please speak to your Club Secretary. cancel all Open events and Aggregate Awards for season 2020 support member Clubs meeting the costs of complying with Covid 19 requirements, the VCV have provided a payment of $15 per member to assist with Covid 19 set up costs. Community sport cannot take place in restricted areas people who live in restricted areas cannot participate in community sport in any area. Outdoor exercise and sporting activities are restricted to one other person or those in your household, provided a 1.5m distance can be maintained. You must not travel outside your area for exercise.
