24.01.2022 Research has shown that around 41% of dogs and 32% of cats are overweight. Overweight pets are at risk from a whole range of problems including diabetes, heart disease, breathing difficulties and arthritis. Weight gain in pets is the result of an increase in body fat. This is most commonly caused by a pet eating too much, and lack of exercise. By maintaining a healthy weight you can help to reduce the risks associated with obesity and help your pet lead a longer more energet...ic life. We now offer free weight assessments with our lovely nurses. Please call us on 9497 7937 to book your free nurses consult.

23.01.2022 Weve made so many changes in the past 6 months but this one reflects our family atmosphere and how close knit our staff are What do you think of our brand new uniforms?
21.01.2022 LOOK WHAT’S NEW! If you’ve been into the clinic in the last 6 months or so you will have noticed a gradual change not only in the layout of our waiting room, but also the food that is available. Hammond Park Vet Clinic has been moving away from the old range of food we stocked to Royal Canin and Hills Prescription Diets. We have done this for a number of reasons. Primarily because our vets believe that Royal Canin and Hills have a better quality range of foods that con...tain all of the essential nutrients needed by our furry friends without any of the unnecessary fillers that can be found in other foods. Also, these brands allow us to create problem specific diets for our clients that have long-term dietary needs and restrictions. Secondly, we as a clinic were unhappy with the price rises that were occuring frequently with the other brand that was stocked, that we were forced to pass onto you, our much-loved clients. Due to this we spoke to Royal Canin and Hills to ensure these kinds of price rises would not be a frequently occurring issue if we changed across to them. They were able to guarantee it would not be something that happened often. Don’t fret if you have a loyalty card from the old supplier, Royal Canin have assured us that they are happy to honour these cards when you change over to their products. The exciting news is every time you purchase food your loyalty card is updated and every 11th bag of food is FREE! If you have any questions regarding your pets' diet, please feel free to speak to the vet during one of your visits, or drop into the clinic and have a chat to one of our friendly vet nurses. This is just one of the ways our new owners have improved and updated the clinic since their takeover in March. Keep an eye out for more posts on these updates and improvements on our social media accounts!

20.01.2022 Dental disease is a common problem in dogs. It starts with bacteria attaching to the teeth forming plaque and when that plaque hardens, it becomes tartar. The same bacteria can also lead to bad breath. Oravet chews are the latest product in the fight against canine dental disease. When used daily, Oravet chews clean and protect your dog’s teeth. Oravet chews have a two pronged approach to keeping your dog’s mouth cleaner - CLEAN: The mechanical action of the chew reduces plaqu...e and tartar build-up resulting in cleaner teeth. PROTECT: The delmopinol in the OraVet chew then forms a barrier to help protect against the bacteria that leads to plaque and calculus buildup for a cleaner mouth and fresher breath. OraVet Chews are the first and only dental hygiene product for dogs that contain delmopinol. If you would like to try Oravet for your dog, stop by the clinic to grab your trial pack. If your dog loves it, bags of 14 or 28 chews are available for purchase. See more
20.01.2022 Happy Friday! Lets kick start the weekend and share some photos of your fur babies being weird
20.01.2022 Interesting Cases! Charlie was brought into us a few weeks ago as her owner was concerned about a lump that had developed quite quickly under her belly. About the size of an egg, it was an unusual growth but was not worrying her at all. Growths can be a concern and in Charlie’s case it could have been a hernia, an abscess or a cancerous mass. Testing was inconclusive, and after the growth continued to enlarge, it was decided that we would perform surgical removal and send it off for laboratory testing. Lucky for Charlie, the growth was diagnosed as fibroadenomatous hyperplasia, a common benign growth of the mammary tissue in cats related to hormonal imbalance. As Charlie was desexed on the day of the surgery, it is unlikely that it will return. Charlie is recovering well from the surgery and recently came back for her suture removal.
18.01.2022 It has been a long and unusual year that many people are wanting to forget. Before we celebrate the end of this year, please be aware that New Years Eve, although a celebration for us, can be a stressful time for our dogs. Not only are there many humans having parties and making a lot of noise, there is also a risk of firework displays that are an especially terrifying event for dogs. If you are at home please consider keeping your dogs inside with you where they will feel ...safe. If you are heading out to celebrate please ensure you dogs are safe and secure before you leave, and that there is no way that they could escape your yard. The last thing you want after a fun night out celebrating is to come home to no pets. Please also be aware that we are closing early tomorrow afternoon at 4pm and will be closed until Saturday the 2nd of January.

17.01.2022 Rabbit and guinea pig teeth never stop growing! That is why it is important for 80% of their diet to be long strand hay. The hay helps to wear down those ever growing teeth.
17.01.2022 Ear Month Tip #2 If your furry family members are having trouble with recurring ear infections there are things you can do to try to minimise the risk. Routine ear cleansing can be performed after every shampooing or swim to help minimise excessive moisture within the ear canal. This is important as this can be a factor that can contribute to infection and inflammation.... Here at the clinic we stock a range of ear cleaning products that work to dry up the excess moisture, as well as clear up excess wax and debris in the ear canals. This can help eliminate the risk factors associated with ear disease and infections. It is important to follow your Vet’s instructions to ensure successful treatment and to avoid recurrence of ear infections. If there is a recurrence of the ear infection it is important to make an appointment here at the clinic as soon as possible. If you are concerned about your pets ears please make an appointment to bring your pet into the clinic for a check-up and as your Vet about ear heath and preventative measures.

13.01.2022 Alysia will be running our last Puppy Preschool for the year beginning Wednesday the 25th of November so get in quick to secure your place! Classes run from 6:45pm - 7:45pm over 4 weeks. We have many new puppy owners ask us if it is safe for their new fur baby to attend classes as they have only had their first vaccination. We want to reassure you that all puppies that attend have had their first vaccination and are at a similar stage and age. Before classes begin the cli...nic is vacuumed and then mopped using F10, which is a super concentrated veterinary disinfectant which achieves a broad spectrum kill of potentially harmful micro-organisms. It is active against bacteria, viruses, fungi and spores. We also spray and clean our scales with this solution before you arrive. If you would like to book your new pup into our Preschool, or if you have any questions, you can email the clinic at: [email protected]

12.01.2022 Star Of The Day! Angus the Boxer Salt toxicity... Did you know dogs are at risk of salt toxicity? It is most commonly caused by ingesting home-made play dough or excessive sea water. High salt levels can be life-threatening for your pet. Symptoms can include vomiting and diarrhoea, increased thirst and urination, and tremors and seizures. To minimize risk to your pets, make sure that any play-dough is cleaned up and well out of reach. This is Angus, who was in hospital with us today for blood tests and fluids after he decided his best friends homemade play-dough starfish looked delicious! Luckily for Angus, he was a mild case, has made a full recovery and is back with his family tonight.

11.01.2022 This gorgeous golden boy is Bailey and he came into our clinic to have a lump removed from his neck. His owner had found it and was concerned about what it could be. Dogs of all ages get all sorts of lumps. Some lumps may be benign while others can be cancerous. Unfortunately most of the time you cannot tell if a lump is cancerous based on appearance alone. If you find a lump on your cat or dog it is recommended that you get it checked out by your vet as soon as possible.... Sometimes a simple needle biopsy can be done to see if any suspicious cells are present. Some lumps should be surgically removed and the entire lump sent to the lab for analysis. It is important that you check your pet regularly for any lumps and bumps. Run your fingers through their coat starting from the head, down the neck, sides, tummy and down the legs. Look for any new lumps and monitor existing lumps for any change in shape, size, colour or if they are painful or have any discharge. Bailey went home happy and lump free. He was lucky as the lump was in the skin only, even tough there was lots of inflammation in the area.

07.01.2022 Arlo is comfortable and confident in the care of our wonderful Dr Chris, who is checking his ears for any infections. He was such a good boy and stayed beautifully still for his check! Kouta is also as comfortable as can be, just like he’s at the spa, getting his mani-pedi. This is something ALL pet owners can experience with their furry family members with just a little bit of work at home. Although it's never too late to start with older pets, when you get a new puppy it'...s a great time to do these exercises so that they are happy and content when they come into the vet clinic. So how do we help our pets feel comfortable at the vets? It's as simple as spending a couple of minutes each day touching their paws, mouth, ears and tail. Yep, it’s really that simple! By getting your pet used to gentle, loving touches in these areas they don’t stress when the vet does the same thing when giving them a health check or looking for problems. Our vets also have their own little tips and tricks to ensure your pet is happy too. We have snuffle mats that can be brought out to entertain your dog, and there are always plenty of treats and pats available. Not to mention all the cuddles from our nurses and receptionists. When your pet visits us free from stress this allows our vets to accurately diagnose your dog without the need for physical restraints. You leave happy, your pet leaves happy and willing to come visit again next time. Talk about win-win and all it takes is a couple of minutes a day!
07.01.2022 Even our reception staff cuddle our patients. This is the wonderful Pepsi recovery from his procedure with the beautiful Bec.

04.01.2022 LOOK WHAT’S NEW! Hammond Park Vet Clinic has a Microscope for all of our in-house cytology and histology needs. This means your consulting Vet can take a sample from your pet, place it under the microscope, and make some specific diagnoses and treatment plans based on what they see. This ensures your pet gets the correct and specific medication to treat their disease/illness. This also allows our Vets to decide if further testing is required.... Some of the things our Vets check under the microscope are: Samples from your pets ear Fecal samples Urine samples Skin scrapings Blood smears Fluid samples from lumps This is just one of the ways our new owners have improved and updated the clinic since their takeover in March. Keep an eye out for more posts on these updates and improvements on our social media accounts!
03.01.2022 It’s a little known secret that Dr Tim has a HUGE heart and just can’t help himself when it comes to caring for our patients. Of course, you will see him in consult give your pet a hug, pat, or scratch on the back, but that’s not where his true superpowers lie. Something you didn’t know about our Head Vet Dr Tim is that every day after surgery is completed, he gives your pets extra special care. He is regularly found snuggling up to patients as they wake from surgery, givin...g hugs and love as they come around and are a little disoriented. This makes your pets feel safe, secure, and relaxed, meaning they recover from surgery, free from stress. He also misses out on a full lunch most days as he is always found sharing what he has with patients that are awake enough to have something to eat. It always makes our patients extra happy when they get a little bit of something special when they’re with us, on top of the healthy, high-quality Prime 100 our canine patients are offered. So when we say we treat your pets like our family, we don’t just mean when they first come in and when they leave. You can be assured there is always someone on hand giving them hugs and love, especially when Dr Tim is on! We’re so lucky to have Dr Tim as our Head Vet and we know your pets feel the same way!
