16.01.2022 Veterinarians have been classified as an ESSENTIAL SERVICE, which means we can continue to care for your pets. In order to keep this essential status the veterinary industry has a responsibility to provide our service whilst abiding by the Government’s strict social distancing measures and maintaining our strict hygiene practices. What this means for our clinic is that we are implementing NON-CONTACT CONSULTING. What does that mean?... At this stage our online booking facilities will be unavailable. This is to allow for us to strategically schedule appointments to minimise potential contact between our clients and to allow for thorough cleaning between patients. We ask that you do not enter the clinic on your arrival. You are welcome to give us a call from the comfort of your car and we can provide further advice, or if you’d rather we have two lovely outdoor waiting spaces. Please adhere to social distancing recommendations and stay 1.5m away from others while waiting. Our nurses will take your pet through to our vet for their appointment, who can call you to talk through the examination of your pet and discuss treatment plans. Be assured that all of our staff are skilled in stress-minimising handling techniques and thankfully there is no shortage in yummy treats! We ask that you please avoid paying in cash and use tap-and-go payment methods. We can take over the phone payments for consultations and surgery, food and medications. Thankyou for our understanding, and know that we are doing all we can to protect our patients, our staff and our community

15.01.2022 Now that restrictions due to COVID-19 are easing we want to thank all of our wonderful clients for their understanding while we’ve had to adapt our policies and practices to accommodate social distancing requirements. For more information on our current practice policies regarding safe vet visits during COVID-19 including an explanation of non-contact consulting, please see our website link: https://www.vethappiness.com.au//Vet-Happiness-Update-Covi

09.01.2022 As restrictions are slowly easing and more are able to venture out of the house for school and work again, take a moment to consider how our pets might be feeling about the changes. This article has some great tips on minimising the anxieties that can be triggered in our pets during the transition back to leaving the house for work.

This year certainly has been challenging, and perhaps more than ever it’s important to look out for our friends and colleagues. 03.01.2022 This video features Dr Vanessa Barrs, Professor of Feline Medicine and Infectious Diseases, and discusses the concerns around COVID-19 and our pets.

03.01.2022 With end of year celebrations fast approaching, it can be quite common to give or receive flower arrangements and plants as gifts. As beautiful and thoughtful as they are, they can come with hidden dangers for our feline friends. Below is a helpful guide to cat friendly and not-so-friendly, flowers and plants. So perhaps spare a quick thought next time you're at the florist, and if the recipient owns a cat, be sure to avoid the 'NOT' list below.

03.01.2022 Although many of our dogs are thoroughly enjoying having their owners around more, some of our cat patients are struggling with the changes in home life that have come along with the COVID-19 restrictions, and are displaying signs of stress. Some of the signs that your cat is feeling stressed may include: becoming more withdrawn or hiding more than usual... becoming less tolerant of people eating or drinking less overeating increased anxiety or fear sleep disturbances pacing, circling or restlessness a scruffy or matted coat house soiling over-grooming If you’re concerned about an unusual behaviour change in your kitty friend, make sure to book them in with one of our vets who will give them a full health check and can talk you through some stress relieving strategies

02.01.2022 Never be alone on Valentines Day again I am still searching for my purrrfect partner, could it be you? If you are feline the connection between us come into Veterinary Happiness to meet me

02.01.2022 Retained deciduous teeth A retained tooth is one that’s still present after the permanent tooth has erupted, and most commonly happens with the upper canines. Left untreated this can cause overcrowding, malpositioning and material such as food can become entrapped leading to infection and pain. Puppies will usually have all their adult teeth by 6 or 7 months of age, so that is a good time to have your puppy checked for this problem.

01.01.2022 If you wake up with a scratchy throat on the morning of your pet’s appointment and don’t want to take the risk of going out in public, first of all thankyou , but know that we will work with you to make sure your pet gets the care they need In cases where a little extra distance is required: Can you arrange for someone else to bring your pet in for their appointment?... Would you like to drop your pet off at the clinic and pick them up later, and have a chat to the vet over the phone after their check-up? How about waiting in your car while one of our staff collects your pet and brings them back to you after their appointment? If you have a mobile, we can even have the vet video chat while they are examining your pet! Just call ahead and we’ll make a plan to suit the best interests of you, our team and your pet

01.01.2022 Let’s talk about litter boxes! House soiling is one of the most common behavioural concerns of cat owners, and problems can start with simply choosing the wrong litter box! Did you know that experts recommend your cats litter box be one and a half times their length from nose to tail? Or that covered litter boxes can make cats in multi-cat households feel anxious and vulnerable?... Here is one of Doctor Bec’s litter boxes, which cost all of $5 to make. It perfectly suits her rather large younger cats, and has also been easily customised for her older Burmese who suffers from arthritis so he doesn’t have to step over a high rim to relieve himself.

01.01.2022 As much as our dogs might be loving everyone staying at home at the moment, unfortunately we are seeing increased stress levels in some of our cat patients related to the change in household routine brought on by the COVID-19 restrictions. Signs of stress in our cats may include: Becoming withdrawn or hiding more than usual... Irritability Eating or drinking less Overeating Increased anxiety or fear Sleep disturbances Pacing, circling or restlessness A scruffy or matted coat House soiling Over-grooming If you’re worried about your kitty friend, book an appointment with one of our vets who will give your cat a full health check and talk you through some stress relieving strategies.
