25.01.2022 YOURE THE BEARY BEST DAD! Happy Fathers Day to all the pet dads for yesterday! #fathersday #dadsday #dogdad #catdad #dadjokes

24.01.2022 With the onset of the heat and moisture, we have started to see some tick cases. It is really important, especially if we go into a tick area (20km from the coast both north to Noosa and south to the Victorian border). Bravecto is working but perhaps not as well as it should. We recommend reapplying the topical every 4 months in high risk area's and redosing the oral every 2 months. Please discuss your individual situation with one of our vets today, as prevention is key.

24.01.2022 Thanks everyone for your patience, our phones are working again *** This update is brought to you by Friday 13th *** Sorry everyone our phones are down currently - our telecommunications company is experiencing a major fault.... Please email us at [email protected] in the meantime. Have a lovely weekend, The Vet HQ team

24.01.2022 What a morning! Fabulous day yesterday, FINALLY perfect weather for training. 8am Senior puppies, 9am junior puppies and 10am adolescent classes back to back. So much fun!

23.01.2022 These puppies are between 11-12 weeks old and this is their first group class. Watch how quickly and brilliantly they can sit from a high state of excitement. OUTSTANDING!!!!!!! This is one of my favourite exercises and is so much fun for everyone. **Sound ON!** :)

23.01.2022 Summer is coming and that means so is the heat! Our furry friends especially our brachycephalic pets are going to feel the heat the most! Here is a guide to show you how dogs depending on their breed cope in the hot summer temperatures. We want to remind everyone to be sun safe with their pets this summer by using this chart and other tips such as: Do not leave your pets in cars, we can’t stress this point enough!... Lots of access to water. Lots of shade or leaving your pets at home with the use of fans/air conditioning. Checking pavements with the palm of your hand to see if it too hot to walk your dogs, their paw pads can burn very easily. Shorter walks or walks in the cooler parts of the day (early morning/late evening.) Don’t leave your pets tied up outside shops and cafes in the sun. If you have any questions or are worried about your pet, please give us a call on (02)9326-1255 #sunsafe #lookafteryourpets #vetadvice #brachycephalic #pug #frenchie #frenchbulldog #bulldog #summer #heat #hotdays #summertime #summerdays See more

21.01.2022 Zeus is the epitome of mans best friend - however, it wasnt always like that Rob rescued Zeus from horrific circumstances over a year ago and the friendship has transformed both their lives. Zeus was bred to be a fighting dog. His learned default behaviour was to attack before being attacked. Rob took him in, and through a lot of kindness and plenty of positive reinforcement, he has turned Zeus into the most gentle-natured dog.... Zeus gives Rob a reason to get up each day plus plenty of unconditional love. If anyone tells Rob what an amazing job he has done with Zeus he simply says It wasnt me. It was all Zeus. Rob lives with physical and cognitive disabilities. Through our charity work with Pets In The Park, we were able to meet Zeus and Rob and take some xrays. We diagnosed Zeus with a bulging disc and cruciate ligament ruptures in both knees. Strictly speaking performing surgery on Zeus does not form part of our relationship with Pets In the Park and those individuals that support the program. However, the bond that Rob has with Zeus and the bond that they together have with the local community in Darlinghurst namely St Johns and Rough Edges meant the Zeus support team came out to bat for him and Rob. Dr Geoff made a deal with Rob. If he was to take responsibility for the dog and commit to the procedure he needed to put down $1000.00 (for an estimated $10,000 procedure). Rob made that commitment and so last week Vet HQ performed a bilateral tibial plateau levelling procedure (Bilateral TPLO) on Zeus. It is very common for us to perform a TPLO but we have never done both knees at once. Dr Karmen did the research and she and Dr Geoff did the epic surgery. Below is a video of Zeus walking before surgery and a video of him walking 5 days after surgery. Zeus has gone home today. Good luck to Rob and Zeus over the coming months.

18.01.2022 New 5.0-star Review: "I have only recently used VetHQ Double Bay as my usual vet is ill, and was very impressed with their service. From the lovely and responsive reception staff, timely appointment and the caring and knowledgeable Dr Tony Knapp's excellent treatment of my cat Chanel, it made what could have been a very stressful experience to one of relief. Highly recommended."

14.01.2022 Today is R U OK day. Today Vet HQ is encouraging all of our community to check in on someone your wouldn't normally have checked in on and make sure they are OK. We are so grateful for our fantastic community of clients, friends, family and of course suppliers. It is an honour and privilege to be the primary carers for your furry, feathered and scaley family members. It is also a day that if you have time, check in on the amazing Vet HQ staff. It may appear on the surface t...o be all puppies and kittens and licks and cuddles. The profession is very misunderstood and it is infact a tough and exhausting job, both mentally and physically. Sadly, we loose over 50% of vets before 5 years and we have one of the highest suicide rates per profession. Thank you team and today we will practice COVID SAFE R U OK hugs. #ruokday #ruokday2020 #vethqcares #

11.01.2022 As you have no doubt heard covid is back in the bay with a confirmed case at Double Bay Public School. Children of that school have been asked to self-isolate until further information is provided by NSW Health, after contact tracing occurs. Families connected to Double Bay Public School are also encouraged to seek medical advice about being COVID-19 tested. There has also been an increasing number of cases linked to a Sydney CBD cluster of confirmed COVID-19 cases. We know ...that many of our clients will have close links with both the local school and CBD workers. I dont want anyone to worry as Vet HQ will remain open and functioning as long as we dont get exposed to the virus. So in these trying times we are asking families, students and staff to be extra vigilant in monitoring symptoms of the virus and to get tested if they have been exposed to any cluster or area of concern identified by NSW Health, and to consider doing so even if they have no symptoms as the virus is in some cases asymptomatic. We continue to take a cautious and proactive approach to reducing risk of a case within our community and, as such, are maintaining twice daily thorough cleaning, temp checks on all staff daily and mask wearing. We ask You to inform us if you May be a close contact and respectfully request that you remain outside the building. We will collect your pet from you outside, administer the best In Veterinary care, love and plenty of treats and return them to you outside. Lets beat the Rona together. We are not Victoria. Have a wonderful weekend, stay safe, Geoff and the team #beattherona #happyfriday #vigilance

03.01.2022 This little girl Eyela got dropped off to Vet HQ Darlinghurst after being found alone on the streets of Darlinghurst. Since being with Darlo we have performed both an eye surgery to fix a hurt eye and she has been desexed. We have also covered her for potential parasites and microchipped her. About her: Eyela is around 6 months old. She is so affectionate and loves a cuddle and pat. Despite missing an and being blind in the other she is inquisitive and playful. She even nav...igates her way around new surroundings like a pro lion -bumping into a wall or two (she can hear you laugh though) We want her to go to a loving new home so can bring some joy to someones life and give her the attention she needs. Prefurrably the home would have no other animals around but other humans are ok. Please call VetHQ Darlo on 93582566 to enquire and come visit her! #adopt #adoptme #adoptdontshop #adoption #kittenforadoption #kittensofinstagram #catadoption

02.01.2022 New 5.0-star Review: "I was recommended Dr Geoff after my four year old cavoodle Teddy slipped a disc. Geoff and all the team at VetHQ were fantastic. I was provided with a very clear plan, which was really reassuring and made me confident that Teddy would make a full recovery."

02.01.2022 Steps to Successful Tooth Brushing featuring Murphy Brushing is important and often overlooked Brushing is important as it helps clean away the plaque that leads to bad breath or much more serious problems like dental disease. Here are some handy tips to guide you in brushing your canines canines! 1. Choose the right tools! It is best to use a toothbrush made for dogs, as these have softer bristles with a long and angled handle. Finger brushes can work as well for dogs ...under 10 kilos. Be sure to only use dog toothpaste, this comes in dog friendly flavours such as peanut butter and poultry. Human toothpaste has ingredients that can upset your dogs stomach! 2. Choose the right and place time to brush. It is best to choose a time when the dog is nice and calm without the whole family running around the living room! It is also important to have good lighting to be able to see in your dogs mouth. 3. Touch without the brush! It is best to start by rubbing your dogs gums and upper lip with your finger to get the dog used to this. 4. Try just the paste! Start with just a little toothpaste on your finger, let your dog lick the paste off and get used to the taste. If your dog is anything like Murphy he will come back for more!! 5. Try it together. Once your dog is used to having their mouth touched, try using the toothpaste and brush together. 6. Start with brushing the top teeth. Lift the upper lip, brush the upper teeth and praise your dog. 7. Now try the rest! Brush in small circles getting the top and bottom on each side. As you move the bristles along the gum line, some light bleeding may occur. Slight bleeding every so often is OK. But ongoing or heavy bleeding may mean youre brushing too aggressively or it may be a sign of gum disease. Speak with your vet for advice. 8. Focus on the plaque! If your dog starts to resist try starting on the canines and back teeth where plaque collects. If you can get to the insides of the teeth than that is great, but do not stress! Start with short brushing sessions and work your way up to more thorough cleanings. 9. Reassure your pet. Talk to your pet while brushing their teeth. Murphy likes to be told he is a good boy while I brush his teeth. It helps keep him calm and happy, assuring him this is a good thing. 10. End on positive note! What is better than a treat or a cuddle after being such a good dog. Certain chews and treats such as oravet can also help you fight plaque build-up. And don't forget to schedule regular professional dental cleanings! If you have any questions, concerns or would like to book a dental check-up please give us a call at 9326 1255. All the best Dr Ashley + Murphy

01.01.2022 New 5.0-star Review: "VetHQ is an excellent veterinary, where we can trust our Birmans are always in such good hands. When one of them went through a rough patch due to a urinary stone at the start of COVID-19, it was so comforting knowing he was receiving the highest quality care from the team. I've now encountered many of the vets and nurses across both Double Bay and Darlinghurst locations, and everyone is so considerate, thorough and friendly. Well done and highly recommend VetHQ!"
