18.01.2022 This riding pony has fluid type swelling sitting under the area of the blue tape. I believe thos was caused by the saddle. The taping is to improve drainage and provide pain relief.
17.01.2022 The Deciding Factor. Taping and Feet. Yesterday I looked at a 15yo cob type pony who has had an intermittment lameness for most of the past 2 years. The lameness usually appearing to be in the left front but has also been seen in the right front. He has seen two different equine vets for 2 different opinions, and an equine chiropractor for yet another opinion. But so far nothing has resolved the lameness. Yesterday he appeared quite lame on the left front but there were odd ...moments when he seemed to bob on the right front,and during the initial assesment the pony was very grumpy and difficult to motivate to trot in hand. When I picked up each leg, the most notable stiffness was in the right hock and left front pastern. In an effort to isolate the primary area, or areas, I did some taping. First, I taped the left front fetlock (as this was one area noted by the first vet). This made no difference at all. Second, I taped the coronet band of the left front. This made a huge difference, immeadiately the lameness had almost disappeared and the pony actually trotted with very little encouragment. Third, coronet taping of the right front. He no longer looked lame at all and actually trotted faster than his young rider! Fourth, I taped the right hock. There wasn't a huge difference in the pony after this taping but he did seem to have more cranial phase in his stride (took bigger steps) and he looked freer behind. He was certainly out-trotting his handler without encouragement. From this exercise I advised the owner to work on improving the hoof balance and shape, and consider giving the pony complete rest until this has been achieved. The second vet had advised the owner to put shoes on and rest the pony, as he thought the problem was in the feet. I think the taping exercise not only helped the pony feel better but showed the owner where they need to focus. We didn't forget about those hocks either, the pony is on pentosan and recently started rosehip vital. His hind feet balance also needed addressing. I would be interested to hear your thoughts on how the coronet band taping helps with foot pain. I have used this strategy to relieve lamintis, abcess and ringbone pain. See more

05.01.2022 As Dr Raquel Butler is now busy teaching at Charles Sturt University, she is no longer selling Vetkin Tape, or teaching it's use outside of the Uni. So I have stepped into the teaching role and I will use this page to disseminate information about taping and advertise clinics. I have been taping for 7 or 8 years, and actually did an Equitape course, alongside Raquel, many years ago! I believe I was the first person to tape Endurance horses during competition, in Australia, ...and those experiences taught me so much about what can be achieved with taping, and how it can make life easier for our horses. I am qualified in various modalities with Equinology and JENT, and have spent a lot of time training with Sharon May-Davis. If you have been to a clinic with Sharon you have probably seen or heard of my horses, Wishes and Doc :) If there is anything you would like to know at any time please ask!!
