23.01.2022 Have you ever thought about keeping Lovebirds? This is a recent example of student work for a 1st year Animal Care and Management assessment - well worth a read if you're considering keeping this species! Other species presented by the students were long-necked turtles, cows, horses, central bearded dragons, alpacas, ferrets, and goats. Wiley have made the JVECC Burn Injury, Burn Shock, and Smoke Inhalation review articles available as Free Access for the next 6 months. If you are already involved or planning to get involved in the veterinary fire response, some EBVM may help with your preparations! Take care of yourselves out there!

She has a passion for teaching anatomy and physiology, as well as her dog Ruby. 03.01.2022 We would like to introduce to you one of our graduates, who is also one of our newest staff members: Audrey Lim. Audrey is a veterinary nurse at Lort Smith Animal Hospital which is our placement location for our 1st and 2nd year students for 3 semesters. As well as working at Lort Smith, she is a clinical supervisor, assisting and supporting our students when they have placement at Lort Smith. Audrey always knew she wanted to work with animals. After high school she completed... her Bachelor of Animal and Veterinary Bioscience degree at La Trobe University. She also volunteered at animal shelters and became an animal attendant and adoptions officer at The Cat Protection Society. She then completed her Honours in Animal Science, but craving more hands on animal time and with a penchant for animal welfare rather than research, she discovered and enrolled in the Associate Degree of Veterinary Nursing (before we developed our Bachelor of Veterinary Nursing). The degree has allowed Audrey to find a job she loves and believes in, working for Lort Smith Animal Hospital - the largest and busiest not-for-profit animal hospital in Australia that offers veterinary treatment to all, including those with financial hardship. Audrey works with a wide range of animals, including wildlife and believes that the diversity of cases means she will never stop learning. Her veterinary nursing degree has allowed her to travel overseas to use her skills to improve the quality of life of much less fortunate animals in Myanmar where she worked with vets and veterinary nurses to desex and perform other surgeries on hundreds of dogs living in squalid conditions. In Audrey's words: "Completing the Associate Degree of Veterinary Nursing through Melbourne Polytechnic was truly one of the best decisions I have made and I am excited to see where it takes me in the future." So are we Audrey! You, too, could make this decision and enroll in the Bachelor of Veterinary Nursing 2021 - where could it take you? #vetnursing #vetnursingeducation #bvnatmp #learningisfunatmp See more

02.01.2022 Introducing Annette Brown! She is one of BVNs wonderful, experienced vet nurses who demonstrates and assists our lecturers in many subjects. She brings oodles of passion, wisdom and experiences to share with the students. Annette has been a vet nurse for over 30 years!! She began her vet nursing career when she was just 17 years old at the RSPCA Vet Clinic and has been a dedicated part of the team since, undertaking several roles including Senior Nurse. She has worked ...in several private vet clinics along the way and has spent some time living, working and travelling in the UK. Her passion is animal welfare and shelter nursing, and she prides herself on giving her patients and their owners the best care possible - always going above and beyond ! Annette is kept very busy at home with her 2 legged family of 4 children and her furry family - Chelsea the cheeky Spaniel X (pictured), Elton the brave Boxer and Boags the beautiful Burmese . In her rare spare time she likes to spend time with them all, keep fit, be amongst nature - the bush or her favourite beach, socialise with her friends and practise mindfulness The BVN team really appreciate all of Annettes hard work and the students enjoy her kindness, patience, care, expertise and great sense of humour! #vetnursing #vetnursingeducation #petsatMP #BVNatMP #friendlyvetnursesatMP #learningisfunatMP See more
