15.01.2022 Have you noticed changes in a colleague? Perhaps they seem distracted or like theyve got a lot on their mind? If your gut instinct is telling you somethings worrying a workmate, start a conversation to see how theyre going. You could: Find a time that is convenient for them to have a chat... Go for a coffee to get away from the office and other distractions Mention specific things that have made you concerned for them: You seem less chatty than usual. How are you travelling? If they say, Im not ok, you should: Take what they say seriously and don't interrupt or rush the conversation. Dont judge their experiences or reactions but acknowledge that things seem tough for them. Encourage them to explain whats troubling them by asking open questions: How are you feeling about that? or How long have you felt that way? Dont try and fix their problem but instead help them think of steps they could take to better manage the situation. Try asking: What have you done in the past thats been helpful? How would you like me to support you? Whats something you can do for yourself right now? Something thats enjoyable or relaxing?
