25.01.2022 We will remember them.
24.01.2022 Meet Terry He came in on Saturday with a blocked bladder. This is considered an emergency and requires immediate medical intervention. Luckily for Terry, Dr. Shing was able to unblock his bladder and give him close medical care over a few days. This required maintenance of a urinary catheter to allow him to pass urine and maintaining intravenous fluid therapy to aid his kidneys. We are so happy to announce that Terry has recovered and is now back in the loving arms of ...his parents Hes one very brave boy and we are so lucky to have his trust and many cuddles he gave us all while he was in our care. #cats #handsome #vnrocksmysocks #catsoftheworld

24.01.2022 Sullivan Meet Sullivan, he is one of our nurses dogs who has been suffering with chronic anal gland infections. After trying adding extra fibre into his diet and regularly expressing his glands, it was decided that the best course of action was to remove these sacs to provide Sullivan with a less troublesome and sore back end. Dr Gwilym came to the clinic to perform the surgery and we are pleased to announce Sullivan is feeling a lot more comfortable now he is all healed.... What are Anal Glands/Sacs Anal glands are grape sized glands either side of a dogs (and cats) anus. These glands are scent glands which dogs use to mark their territory. Normally they are expressed or emptied naturally when they toilet. You may have noticed a fishy smell coming from your dog or notice them bottom scooting along the ground which can be a sign of full glands. These glands can also be expressed manually by a nurse or veterinarian. If you are concerned your pet has full glands give the clinic a call to book them in. #vnr #vetsatnorthrocks #veterinary #vnrrocksmysocks #animals #smallanimals #northrocks

19.01.2022 Grooming Now that the hot weather has begun it is important to ensure that we keep our pets nice and cool. Our groomer has given us some tips on how we can maintain our furry friends coat at home to ensure that matting and discomfort is kept to a minimum. My pet is matted, what can I do? When a matted pet is brought into the groomer, the safest way to remove these mats and relieve the animal (mats can be quite uncomfortable) is to clip their coat short. By clipping their c...oat short we are able to remove the mat completely, rather than removing just a portion. How does the change of season affect my pet? During the change of seasons (from winter to spring/summer) you will notice your pets coat change, and drop/ shed. This is their winter coat making way for a lighter summer coat to help them deal with the hotter weather. It is very important that ALL pets regardless of the length of coat need to have this brushed out.
19.01.2022 Desexing - 50% discount for the month of June We have seen a large number of new puppies and kittens for health checks and vaccines during the COVID-19 outbreak. As people have been using this time at home to focus on training and welcoming their new pets into their homes we understand the financial stress these circumstances may have had on some households. Owning an animal can be costly and in these trying times we wanted to do our part to help. Most importantly we wante...d to make sure there is no fallout from the boom in pet ownership by getting these furry new additions off to the right start. For the month of June we will be offering 50% off regular desexing costs. For more information please see our website https://www.vetsatnorthrocks.com.au/ or give us a call on 9873 1660! We are always here for you and your pet's best interests.

13.01.2022 COVID-19 Update: Due to the outbreak of coronavirus we have had to implement some serious changes to our day to day running of the clinic. Please read the following ... We are now asking our clients to please: - Wait inside your car if there are more than two people already in the waiting room. Please then call reception to check in on 9873 1660. - We must limit the parties to one person per animal to bring into the clinic due to the strict social distancing enforced by the government. (Fines are now being applied to businesses not abiding by this rule) - If you need to bring your children with you please call ahead and a nurse will take your pet inside for examination as we can only allow one person per pet rule. - Whilst within the clinic please abide to the social distancing rule to 1.5m from each person. - If you need to cough or sneeze, please do so into the crook of your elbow. - We are no longer accepting cash on the premises but are strongly encouraging paypass or direct debit. - If you require medications or food, please call ahead so we can put through payment over the phone. Please do not be offended if we greet you with a warm smile instead of a handshake. If you have been in contact with anyone who has shown symptoms (sore throat, temperature, coughing, or shortness of breath), are in isolation or have returned from overseas over the past 14 days we kindly ask you to reschedule your appointment. If you are in need of medical care for your pet but are unable to leave home please call us as we will do our best to assist you. 10.01.2022 LEPTOSPIROSIS You may have heard or seen in the news recently a spike in the number of dogs contracting a disease called Leptospirosis. In the past year this disease has affected nine dogs in the inner city region, most recently in Surry Hills, Newtown and surrounding areas. Sadly no cases from this outbreak have responded to treatment. Protection against this variant of Leptospirosis is readily available in the form a vaccine that we do stock. With no cases reported in Northwest Sydney as of yet, we are not mandating this vaccination as core. However we are happy to offer it to clients who want peace of mind, or whose dogs are likely to visit affected areas. We are watching the situation closely and if any data suggests our patients are at a higher risk we will be sure to let our clients know
10.01.2022 PSA! - All cats should be desexed before 4 months of age "The NSW Government is introducing annual permits for non-desexed cats and restricted and dangerous dogs as part of its commitment to promoting responsible pet ownership and improving animal welfare standards. From 1 July 2020 owners of cats not desexed by four months of age will be required to pay an $80 annual permit in addition to their one-off lifetime pet registration fee.... This will create a stronger incentive to desex cats, which in turn will improve their health and wellbeing, including reducing the risk of some cancers. Improving desexing rates will also ease the burden on pounds and shelters, reduce euthanasia rates, and help to address concerns about feral, stray and roaming cats and their effect on wildlife. Exemptions are in place for cats that are registered by 1 July 2020, those kept for breeding purposes by members of recognised breeding bodies, and cats which cannot be de-sexed for medical reasons."
