05.01.2022 Veytech Diagnostic Services are offering free conveyor belt metal detector audits for the months of July and August. These audits are to make sure that your metal detectors are working optimally and detecting tramp metal on the conveyor belt. The book SME mining engineering handbook (Hartman et al. 1992) discusses how such damage contributes to the unplanned downtime of a mine, increasing the maintenance cost and reducing production. Tramp metal detectors are used to protect ...the plant from damage that stray metal can do to the equipment including the crushers, screens and the belt itself. If the metal detectors are not properly installed and properly maintained, then the plant is open to the risk of stray metal causing serious damage as well as potential significant incidents. Metal detectors should be inspected regularly to make sure that they are still able to detect a test piece that is passed through the unit while working at normal operating conditions. The metal detector should send a signal to the DCS to stop the belt. If the metal detector cannot detect the test piece, then your metal detector is not protecting your plant and your people.
