20.01.2022 Hi everyone, With everything that is going on with the Fire Services Reform, I would like to let you know that all the CFA Brigades within the Glenlyon Group (...Daylesford, Franklinford, Glenlyon, Hepburn, Leonards Hill, Musk, Porcupine Ridge, Trentham), will continue to provide the service that you are used to. They are professional, dedicated and 100% committed to protecting life and property. We are part of the community and the community is part of us.

19.01.2022 September 11th 2001 On this day... 19 years ago 246 people went to sleep in preparation for their morning flights. 2,606 people went to sleep in prepa...ration for work in the morning. 343 firefighters went to sleep in preparation for their morning shift. 60 police officers went to sleep in preparation for morning patrol. 8 paramedics went to sleep in preparation for the morning shift. None of them saw past 10:00am Sept 11, 2001. We also remember the many emergency service workers that aided the rescue and recovery efforts in the following weeks and months who have subsequently died from 9/11 related illnesses. We remember 2,977 innocent people that died that day. In one single moment life may never be the same. As you live and enjoy the breaths you take today and tonight before you go to sleep in preparation for your life tomorrow, kiss the ones you love, snuggle a little tighter, and never take one second of your life for granted. May they Rest In Peace. #wewillneverforget

10.01.2022 Hi everyone, This is a long post, so please bear with me and if after reading this you feel inclined, contact your local member. Feel free to share. Currently ...and over the coming weeks you will hear and see advertisements and articles introducing a ‘new, modern fire and rescue service’. From July 1, FRV will become operational and, as they claim, they will meet the needs of twenty-first century Victoria. To be clear, FRV will use the same trucks, people, fire stations and equipment on the 1st of July as they did on the 30th of June. The only difference is that there will be a different badge on the trucks and uniforms. To claim that they will be a modern fire and rescue service and meet the needs of twenty-first century Victoria, is quite offensive to the Volunteer Fire Fighters of 1220 Volunteer Fire Brigades. Because it infers that the numerous volunteers that have put their lives on the line during last summers’ bushfires in Gippsland, NSW and all over the state, don’t belong to a modern fire service and don’t meet the needs of the twenty-first century Victoria. Most CFA brigades have the latest trucks available and even though our Leonards Hill tanker is 29 years old, if putting a new badge on it would make it modern, I would do it immediately. The only reason we have to work with a 29 year old fire truck (which is functioning fine by the way, even though it would be a lot safer for us if we had a dual cab and all the equipment of a new truck), is because the same government that created FRV and governments before them, have tightened the budget of the CFA year after year. I want to make clear that your local CFA brigade from the Glenlyon Group of Fire Brigades (Daylesford, Franklinford, Glenlyon, Hepburn, Leonards Hill, Musk, Porcupine Ridge, Trentham) are very dedicated and will still be the primary fire agency in the Hepburn Shire and Moorabool Shire and they will still be turning out as per usual. And if you see a fire truck of any of these brigades, give them a smile and a wave and let them know you are standing behind us and have our backs. Fire Rescue Victoria was the invention of the Labor state government in a reaction to the fact they could not get the EBA signed off for the career CFA fire fighters. All career CFA and MFB fire fighters will be put into one fire agency. This also means that the hierarchy in the CFA regions head quarters will move to FRV. But as we were told 2 years ago, nothing would change. They would be seconded back to the CFA, wear the same CFA uniforms etc. Promises were made, volunteers would be consulted (as is required by the CFA Act). 2 years later, 1 week out from operational start, promises have been broken, consultation of volunteers has not taken place and a lot of things still need to be nutted out. There are numerous questions that still need to be answered: - Will the CFA Brigade Support staff (employed by CFA and helping us volunteers with the daily running of the brigade) stay with CFA as was promised 2 years ago? - Will the seconded FRV commanders at Region Headquarters be wearing CFA Uniforms as was promised 2 years ago? - Will the CFA Chief Officer be able to change FRV commanders their shifts and roles in training and supporting volunteers without requiring approval from the UFU (United Firefighters Union)? - Will FRV appliances on the Melbourne outskirts and in major centres be operating on the same radio frequencies as CFA appliances so they can communicate? - Will the volunteer CFA Incident Controller be able to direct FRV staff at an incident in a CFA area? There are many more questions and as you can understand volunteers are concerned. They are concerned for the future of the CFA, which is and should be the main firefighting agency in country Victoria. If you have any questions don't hesitate to drop me a message.
