25.01.2022 Uncertainties that we share - At a time of so many uncertainties we would like to give you something that you can be certain of. Should we need to continue to practice via online based learning into term 2 (which we are prepared and ready for) then we will continue to distribute high quality and engaging content for you to learn from.... Our fees will be heavily reduced and billed monthly across the board for our online content as we understand how uncertain the current financial market is. We are happy to welcome anybody that was thinking of enrolling into our dance family to join us for term 2 under our new format. We will also be checking in with all of our current enrolled students to ensure that the classes you are in are still the right fit for you. We will continue to provide you and your family the best service that we can and do everything that we can to support you in this uncertain time. We are still uncertain as to how long this will last but what you can be certain of is that we miss seeing all of our students, teachers and dance family immensely. We will never stop caring for you and supporting you in these tough times. Thank you for your continued support and we really hope you are enjoying the online content.

23.01.2022 Happy easter from our family to yours. Enjoy the time with family.

22.01.2022 A formal break up letter: Dearest Zoom, You have been really great to us over the last few weeks and we hate to see you go but unfortunately its just really not working out. We miss our kids way too much and as such we are going to have to call it off. Its not you, its us. You were great, most of the time. You really worked hard, you were supportive, you were there for us when other platforms werent. Unfortunately, I just dont see us needing a place for you at this time ...but hey, Im glad we gave it a shot and I think we are all better for it. This may not be goodbye forever, we may meet again soon but for now its au revoir. Love always, VHSD. Yes, you read correct. We are going back face to face under the new restrictions from Uncle Mark as of Monday the 18th of May and we are so excited about it. See you really soon.

22.01.2022 21st March - Indoor Density Policy We as a studio continue to operate under the advice and policy of the Australian Government. The current advice from the Update on Coronavirus measures from the PM on the 20th of March advises that indoor gatherings should be reduced to fewer than 100 people remaining 1.5m social distance with a density minimum of 1 person for every 4 square metres. We are extremely lucky at the studio that each of our studios under this new regulation could... still hold greater than 50 people in each. This allows us to continue to practice under our current measures within these restrictions. We do continue to ask for the exclusion of unwell staff, children and visitors. We will endeavour to keep you all updated as we proceed. Keep well, keep your hands clean and keep dancing. Kind regards, Kerryl & Jeremy

11.01.2022 Whats new in MUSICAL THEATRE for 2020? For 2020 we are super excited to announce that the musical theatre class will be getting their very own Showcase. This showcase (most likely around early November) will allow the musical theatre students to show off the wide array of talents and skills that they will be learning in the musical theatre class for 2020. We will be covering scenes from shows, monologues, singing, dancing, acting, improv and so much more set in their very ow...n show. The show will take place in a theatre where the students will get to learn first hand about stage craft, theatre direction, lighting, audio, sets & so much more. The Valerie Heston School of Dance along with our musical theatre teacher Ellin are so excited to be offering this new and amazing opportunity to our students. Have any questions about the musical theatre classes? Give us a call today to find out more - 0413 525 372

10.01.2022 What was your favourite memory of 2019? We achieved so much as a studio in 2019. We are always endeavouring to try new things and pushing the boundaries in creating an amazing atmosphere for dance education. This year saw a lot of excitement in all areas of dance and performance. Before our 2020 timetable comes out please share with us your favourite moment from 2019 below.

09.01.2022 Today we take a moment to pay our respects to our most amazing founder Valerie Freeman (nee Heston). Val; mum to Kerryl and nanna to Jeremy started our incredible studio in 1954. As we do every year, there is no dancing held on this date as a respect to her and her achievements. 2020 is a little different. This is the first time in 66 years where we have had a forced break of welcoming students into our studio. In saying that, I find myself thinking "What would Nanna have t...hought of how we are operating and our transition to online?" Well, firstly if it were up to Nanna I probably would have been able to invest in another 5 cameras, microphones and all sorts of other gadgets that we didnt need but would be cool. She was always first to have the latest tech and when she wanted something, she went and got it. She would have loved to see the transition to our online classes and the seamless ability to keep the kids engaged in this really tough time. She would have been the first to jump at reducing the fees to keep this passion affordable and would have been personally reaching out to all of the families who have been heavily affected to offer assistance and a helpful ear. She would have been available on the other end of the phone the 10,000 times a day that we have found ourselves stressed and inundated and would have known exactly what to say to fix the situation and to make it alright. Her quick whit and humour would have been perfectly transferred to zoom classes - where even from the other side of the screen she would be able to demand the students attention, respect and adoration. Her heart would have been filled by the level of family spirit and generosity we have seen from our amazing dance family. She would be first in line to be modelling our new range of trackies and jumpers - and would be volunteering to help sew and make the patterns. And most of all she would miss seeing the students as much as we do and be so excited at the prospect of returning to class on the coming Monday. Our heart breaks regularly at the fact that you cant be here anymore but we are filled with the spirit of the legacy that you have left. We miss you so much, at this time more than ever but we know you would be so proud of how your studio is running and the amazing dancers and dance families that are involved in it.

08.01.2022 Our studio is apart of the unified support from WA dance studios. In times of adversity, it is so nice to see such a caring group of professionals come together to discuss the best interests for our students, dancers, teachers and industry.

07.01.2022 Age announcement take 2. After internal discussions amongst the directors (Kerryl and Jeremy) and without influence from external factors we have decided for continuity to keep the ages of our troupes the same for 2020 as was in 2019. This means that it is the age that the student is turning in 2020 through to the end of December. There are still some exceptions to the rule - such as for first time troupe members, family convenience and some special circumstances. For solos, duos, trios & quartets the students will dance in the age group according to their age on the 30th of June as per the MFOD competition rules. This will allow us to meet the regulations of the MFOD for troupes - just with some of our students being slightly younger.

02.01.2022 Is there a doctor in the house? - A line made famous by the incredible late Gwen Verdon from "Whos got the pain" in Damn Yankees. On the topic, we have a doctor in the house. The Valerie Heston School of Dance would like to congratulate Dr Ellin Sears on completing her doctorate in Musical Theatre Dance. Dr Sears has been with the studio since she was a very young girl and has always been an integral part of our dance family. Of more recent times she has completed her teachers diploma through the studio and runs our amazing musical theatre classes. The entire studio is so proud of all your hard work and determination to finish your PhD and cant wait to see all that you will achieve in this field into the future.

02.01.2022 We are going online! Good afternoon to our dance family. You would of by now received details surrounding our transition to online learning. We made the decision at around 4.00PM on Sunday the 22nd of March. Following the announcement from PM Scott Morrison, it appeared to be the right decision. We continue to develop our studio as we believe that maintaining a sense of normality in this time of uncertainty is helpful. We also know that dance is an excellent release for st...ress and general wellbeing as well as a good form of exercise, self expression and gives positive outcomes for mental health. Kind regards, Kerryl & Jeremy

01.01.2022 Happy mothers day to all of our dance mums. Thank you for everything you do. You are amazing.
