11.01.2022 COBBOBOONEE FOREST CONFLICT - PORTLAND VIC Cobboboonee State Forest is just a few kilometres from Portland, and seems to be used as a casual dumping ground by s...ome. A group of Indigenous activists from various parts of Australia and Victoria have had enough. Acting under the banner of the Victorian Tent Embassy, and not affiliated with any local Indigenous Co-operatives, they've been occupying the forest for months, claiming that it is being mismanaged. Recently, they've had their forest camp partially dismantled in the Cobboboonee Forest. Yesterday, DELWP conducted an operation to remove several structures and caravans at the camp, however several members of the group and their tents remain on site, resisting the removal. "This is Country that is still unceded sovereignty and inherited by Aboriginal people across this country'" said Albert Hartnett, an Indigenous activist who has travelled down from Queensland to offer the group support. "We own this country, we still own it and we have never surrendered it," he said. On 6 December 2018, Forest and Wildlife officers served a court order to remove items that had been in the forest in excess of 28 days. The order was not followed, triggering the forced removal of several items. Those at the camp have described the removal of several caravans, unregistered vehicles, a hut, the emptying of drinking water tanks and the removal of solar panels. One 63-year-old Portland man, a retired horticulturalist, has been living in Cobboboonee for around nine months and was yesterday arrested and charged for hinder, resist arrest and assault to police following an altercation when DELWP executed a court order to remove the makeshift campsite. He was injured in the altercation and admitted to hospital, where he was kept under observation overnight and released the next morning. "I've always loved the bush," he said. "We've been cleaning up foreign species and trying to get rid of the rubbish," said the man. "We've found at least 20 or 30 dump sites just in one section of the forest. We've been asking for free tip fees but Council won't come across." "We're calling all the Elders, we want them to come back and get together from all areas, we want it to be a healing place." A statement issued by DELWP stated that the occupation of land and removal of firewood in Cobboboonee has been under investigation and is part of ongoing legal proceedings.

We are calling on everyone to help us protect the sacred country there as it is one of the last areas of bushland left for the animals in the area. We need as many mob to help protect country and this special sacred place; stand united with us to put a stop to this they will be back tomorrow to wipe out rest of the camp. The address on the Facebook event is a private property that is nearby the Victorian Aboriginal Tent Embassy, cars can be left there and people can camp there or in the bush at the embassy.

01.01.2022 I have noticed in Australia our government has a nasty habit of targeting those they think are weaker...refugees, single parents, unemployed, people with specia...l needs, the old and indigenous people. The Climate Actions of so many of us have put the Politicians on edge, they are trying to change the conversation and our focus and to do that they need to attack. I thought March 15 was just a wake-up call, it's not. It is a call to help. People everywhere across Australia need you to help. RN there is Government Department trying to destroy nature everywhere and traditional owners need our help in WA, VIC, TAS, NSW and NT. The time for solidarity is now. I will put details of all the places in the comments.
