22.01.2022 Congratulations to VGA Member Jenny Blow who ran her first Half Marathon today. Jenny smashed her goal by running 21.1 km in 1:59:42! With goalball competitions and training being postponed due COVID, Jenny set her running goals back in May to keep fit and motivated. Today we not only celebrate Jenny’s running success, but we also celebrate her determination and resilience. Achieving big goals would not happen without the support of others. A massive thank you to Achilles Melbourne who continue to encourage and support athletes with a disability to achieve their goals.

22.01.2022 While 2020 wasn't the year we had planned, VGA still managed to achieve quite a lot! We had virtual training sessions, a trivia night, team challenges, NSW versus Victoria challenge, a mental health workshop and ended (finally) with being able to celebrate the year in person with our end-of-year picnic. We couldn't have achieved any of this without the ongoing support of various organisations. We would like to thank: Access for All Abilities - AAA Play, Blind Sports Austral...ia , Goalball Australia, Blind Sports & Recreation Victoria, Disability Sport and Recreation and Vision Australia Radio . We look forward to working with you all in 2021!

16.01.2022 Have a listen to this podcast Jenny recorded for Creating Chances! It gives an interesting insight into what it is like growing up with a vision impairment and how goalball has helped her develop resilience and mental toughness. https://anchor.fm//Jenny-Blow-triumphs-in-the-face-of-adve

15.01.2022 Tonight we were lucky enough to participate in a SALT Mental Health Seminar which offered practical advice to improve our mental health and helped us reconnect with each other during this difficult time. During the session we were each asked what self-care strategies work for us. Here are some from our members: Re-create your routines. For example, if you normally listen to a podcast on the train to work, take a lunch time walk and listen to podcast of choice. Take time... to appreciate the simple things. When you go outside for a walk take time to enjoy the sun and nature. Find an activity you enjoy, for example, yoga, exercise, playing a musical instrument, cooking. Have a cup of tea and really take the time to sit down and enjoy it. Set yourself a challenge. See more

14.01.2022 September NSW VS VIC COVID CUP Final Results: NSW - 1090; VIC - 1140 Congratulations to all our members who walked, ran, lifted weights, yoga'ed, cycled and exercised their way to defeating NSW!

11.01.2022 Today is International White Cane Day Did you know that not everyone who uses a white cane is totally blind? White canes not only help people with a vision impairment navigate their environment, they also let other people know the user has a vision impairment. Some helpful tips: ... * If you see someone using a white cane, just move out of their way without making big deal of it. * If you think the person may need some help, just ask. Don't assume they need help, and do not yell out or grab them. * Always be aware of your surroundings when you walk, for example: avoid looking down at your phone. A broken cane from an unaware person tripping over it can take away a person's independence. See more

10.01.2022 This August our members are battling it out to see which team can virtually travel the farthest. Overall we have travelled to Shepparton (199.15km)! But It's team Brimbank in the lead on 78.1km! Each kilometre walked or ran will count and every 10 minutes of any other exercise will also equal 1km.

10.01.2022 VGA are extremely grateful to be one of many sports affiliated with Blind Sports & Recreation Victoria. To find out more about Blind Sports & Recreation Victoria, check out their video at https://www.youtube.com/watch.

06.01.2022 Dear Santa, Thanks for all you gave us in 2020. You gave us new ways to use technology and the ability to come up with new and virtual ways of doing things. You gave us determination and resilience. ... But best of all, you reminded us that sport is so much more than competing and training. Sport is about connection, belonging and community. They were great presents, but what we would really love for 2021 is face-to-face goalball sessions, and mostly for everyone to be healthy enough to compete and reconnect around Victoria and Australia. Thanks, Santa and Merry Christmas from all our members at VGA!

01.01.2022 This morning around Melbourne there was some frantic searching for goalball equipment, and the sound of dust being wiped away as our VGA members hit the goalball court for the first time in nearly 11 months!! We started off the year with some training for our Youth and Senior players. Thanks Brooke for securing a new venue for us, to Jenny for running the session and to Aiden and Annette for helping out at the session.
