15.01.2022 Next month Paramedic Emma Mickle will be riding her bike from her home in Cockatoo all the way to Canberra to raise money for Spinal Cure Australia. What makes her story truly inspiring is that Emma is doing all this after suffering spinal damage herself. Following an accident in New Zealand in January 2020 Emma was left with 20 broken bones a fractured skull, jaw, clavicle, humerus, 6 ribs, wrist, hand and ankle as well as 3 broken vertebrae. She has currently raised ju...st over $18,000 towards spinal injury treatment, but needs a little extra help to reach her target of $25,000. 06.01.2022 Pvt. John Simpson was a stretcher-bearer with the 3rd Field Ambulance during World War 1. He trained in Egypt before serving in Gallipoli where struck on the idea of using a donkey to assist wounded men back to the dressing stations near Anzac Cove. Today being Remembrance Day we pay tribute to Pvt. Simpson and all his fallen commrades who served in the Field Ambulance and in other roles during each of the wars we have been involved with.

03.01.2022 Patient Transport Ambos and Nurses step up their protected industrial action in response to Royal Flying Doctor Service attacking their wages and conditions. RFDS want to bring in a 2-tiered wage system where new workers are paid less than existing workers. RFDS workers deserve a fair deal that protects their conditions, not one that strips them back.

02.01.2022 The VAU recently collaborated with RMIT and Swinburne Universities to conduct a detailed study into bullying, harassment, mental health and workplace culture in the ambulance industry. 44% of members have experienced bullying. Trust in senior management has never been lower and people are afraid to speak up.
