25.01.2022 Results - Long Island Golf Club on Sunday 28th July 2019 - sponsored by Symbion Health Services - 34 players. After two previous, wet events Melbourne switched on the sun and weather for our first ever VCGC Sunday event at Long Island (National) Golf Club. Our numbers were disappointingly small but those who attended will remember how convivial, relaxed and low key the day was; those who didn't will only get to hear about it. The course was very well presented as usual. The C...Continue reading
19.01.2022 Results - Spring Valley Golf Club (Charity Day) on Monday 21st October 2019 - Majors sponsors were Mount Evelyn Community Bank, NAB Health, Pharmacy Alliance and VCGC Inc. 82 players including 39 visitors. Our sponsored charity for the third successive year was Melba Support Services. The course was in great condition. The day was dry and the clouds disappeared in the early afternoon allowing us to complete the day in warm sunshine. Medium length white/red tee positions coupl...ed with zero difficult pin placements enabled several very impressive scores. David Norton lipped a putt on the 18th to finish one over par - 39 pts; Sharon Hedley off a handicap of 39 finished with 44 individual stableford points. We had multiple cash donors and many golf clubs and individuals who donated goods for our auction and prizes - many thanks to all concerned. Sigma Healthcare announced a $5,000 donation to MSS which was enthusiastically applauded - thanks, Sigma Healthcare. Aggregate Winners [Irish stableford four ball] (sponsored by Harry Jones, NAB Health and Tri-Point Marketing): Paul Hedley (13), Sharon Hedley (V)(39), George Conlan (V)(23)and Judi Conlan (V)(45) - 93 pts Congrats on back-to-back victories; you will be in everyone's sights for next year (the team had 90 pts last year) Aggregate Runners-up [Irish stableford four ball] (sponsored by Harry Jones, NAB Health and Tri-Point Marketing): Steve Haase (19), Ben Richardson (24), Jeff Thom (V)(10) and Brenton Hunt (V)(18) - 87 pts. 08.01.2022 Results - Sandhurst Club (Champions) on Monday 27th May 2019 - sponsored by Guild Insurance - 44 players. This was a memorable day - for all the wrong reasons. Melbourne finally got some rain, and some wind and both at once at some stages. Whilst the course was in fine conditions the rain from the morning persisted into the afternoon interspersed with sunshine and pelting winds. As soon as you had dried out somewhat mother nature tortured you again. Even the putts were severe...ly affected by the wind direction. For those who played at Barwon Heads GC in 2015 Carnival the memories of this event were not far removed. One player in the field managed 36 points - testimony to the strength of the elements. The Sid Hirsh Memorial Trophy was contested and won by Mark Gowans (16) with 35 points. A very good score considering the conditions. Next best scores were Nader Mitri (13) and Trent Clarke (18) both with 34 points. 4BBB Winners: 1st: Ed Johnson (14) & Chris McConnell (18) 42 points (42 points owed 0 points) 2nd: Peter Scurrah (29) & Michael Burke (P)(24) 41 points (41 points owed 0 points) next best score: David Norton (4) & Mark Gowans (16) 39.5 points (42 points owed 2.5 points) Single Winners: A Grade: Luke Zoanetti (V)(13) 36 points (36 points owed 0 points) next best - Nader Mitri (13) 34 points (34 points owed 0 points) B Grade: Trent Clarke (18) 34 points (34 points owed 0 points) next best: Mark Gowans (16) 32 points (35 points owed 3 points) C Grade: Peter Crump (25) 31 points (32 points owed 1 points) next best: Kaye McIntyre (35) 28 points (28 points owed 0 points) NTP’s (sponsored by Mark Gowans - Tri-Point Marketing): 6th hole: Greg Clements 8th hole: Ken Gray 11th hole: Faye Smith 16th hole: David Norton Points Reductions (all prize winners receive a 4 point reduction for their next event) Chris McConnell 0 to 4 Ed Johnson 0 to 4 Michael Burke (P) 0 to 4 Peter Scurrah 0 to 4 Trent Clarke 1 to 5 Peter Crump 0 to 4 Luke Zoanetti (V) 0 to 4 2019 Playing Handicap ranges are: A grade - up to 14 B Grade - 15 to 22 C Grade - 23+ Next event is at Kingston Heath G.C. on Tuesday June 18th. 02.01.2022 Results - Kingston Heath Golf Club on Tuesday 27th May 2019 - sponsored by Sigma Healthcare - 55 players finished. For successive months we have had wet golf; anyone would think it was winter. Might be time to sack the Captain. Whilst the conditions were not as difficult as last month they still made the day uncomfortable and trying. A number of players called it quits early so they could be first into the showers. From a golf perspective, the weather was a shame as Kingston ...Heath, one of Australia's best courses, is always a day we eagerly anticipate. Firm greens and some pins positions in testy places added an extra challenge. Only one player in the field managed +36 points - once again, testimony to the conditions. The Bill Alcock (Legacy) Trophy was won by Paul Hedley (15) with 37 points; a worthy winner in those conditions. The next best score was local member Keith Nance (21) with 34 points. 4BBB Winners: 1st: Paul Hedley (15) & Dale Roseburgh (1) 42 net (42 points - 0 owed) 2nd: Ben Richardson (25) & Steve Haase (20) 40.5 net (42 points - 1.5 owed) next best scores: Colin Stone (23) & Keith Nance (21) 39 net (40 points - 1 owed) Ken Green (23) & William Sullivan (V) (7) 39 net (39 points - 0 owed) Single Winners: A Grade (playing handicap up to 14): Winner: Lou Skantzos (4) 32 net (32 points - 0 owed) next best - John Rahilly (13) 29 net (29 points - 0 owed) B Grade (playing handicap 15 to 22): Winner: Keith Nance (21) 34 net (34 points - 0 owed) next best: John Perrett (V) (22) 32 net (32 points - 0 owed) Darren Poutney (21) 30 net (30 points - 0 owed ) Craig Jamieson (19) 30 net (32 points - 2 owed) C Grade (playing handicap 23+): Winner: Ken Green (23) 31 net (31 points - 0 owed) next best: Kaye McIntyre (35) 29 net (29 points - 0 owed) Toby Pearson (23) 29 net (29 points - 0 owed) Glenn Carroll (V) (24) 29 net (29 points - 0 owed) NTP’s (sponsored by Tri-Point Marketing [Mark Gowans]): 5th hole: Dale Roseburgh 15th hole: Lou Skantzos 19th hole: John Rahilly Points Reductions (all prize winners receive a 4 point reduction to their accrued balance for their next event): Ben Richardson 2 to 6 Ken Green 0 to 4 Lou Skantzos 0 to 4 Dale Roseburgh 0 to 4 Paul Hedley 0 to 4 Steve Haase 0 to 4 Keith Nance 0 to 4 The next event is at Long Island G.C. on Sunday July 28th. Guests are very welcome with a member. Numbers are restricted to 56 players. It will be our first ever Sunday game and the VCGC Committee have made it our cheapest - $80 for all players.
