18.01.2022 Nursery rhymes, lullabies, and singing games are all part of childhood. This is no different for children with hearing loss! We don't all have to hear music in the same way to see the benefits of enjoying, dancing or relaxing to our favourite tune. So let’s get out the pots, pans and wooden spoons, turn up the radio, dance and have fun with early listening!

18.01.2022 We have recently published a paper in the International Journal of Language and Communication Disorders. This study found that the most common speech-sound disorder related to hearing loss is phonological delay. You can read the abstract here or contact us for the full article: https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/1460-6984.12536

15.01.2022 Professor George Patton from Murdoch Children's Research Institute speaks to Radio National Breakfast presenter Fran Kelly about new research that has found men... with poor mental health in adolescence and young adulthood are more likely to father premature babies. The study, conducted over 15 years, also found women with anxiety and depression during pregnancy were also more likely to have a preterm birth. It's prompted concerns that mental health problems induced by the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdowns, could result in more premature births in the future. #COVID #mentalhealth #prematurebirth

14.01.2022 Congratulations Dr Lil Downie! Dr Lil Downie recently won first prize at the Royal Australasian College of Physicians Victorian Trainee Research Awards. She is completing her PhD in genetic testing for childhood hearing loss. Her project offered a new kind of genetic testing (exome sequencing) to some VicCHILD families in 2016-18. Thanks to these families, she found that the exome sequence test was much better than current available tests in finding the cause of a child’s h...earing loss. Finding the cause early means less uncertainty and better care for these families. Because exome sequencing is currently very expensive and not accessible to many families, the team is now working on making exome sequencing a government-funded test so that more parents can access genetic testing after their child’s hearing diagnosis. #vicchild #congenitalhearingloss #exome #sequencing
