25.01.2022 DRESSAGE DIARY...with Simone Pearce Dressage "Holding the Grand Prix record is something Ive dreamt of since growing up in rural northern Victoria watching t...he Olympics taped and on replay for years as a kid and Im so proud to have achieved this! I remember as a small child I refused to do rising trot in competitions because Anky and Isabel never do rising trot in the shows and they are the best in the world and I want to be like them! So it feels very fulfilling to be riding on these amazing European shows next to them now. "From riding thoroughbreds in Australia, to being an unpaid working student in Holland, riding wild 3 and 4yo sales horses in Germany and falling off a lot to having my first year of competition in Europe without ever placing. I had to train, learn and push myself to stay positive and not give up. "It sounds really funny to say but I kind of always wanted it so bad and I believed that my big dream was possible. I think that if I didnt believe in it or want it as badly as I did then I would have never stuck it out because it has been a really hard road for me to get to where I am, and where I am now is still just a stepping stone on the way to where I hope to be in the future. "Moving to Denmark and having the most turbulent 3 years imaginable - training amazing horses and winning at the World Championships and taking my first international Grand Prix placing, to then having horses sold and taken away. When I had an accident and broke my arm, I came back and Zhaplin and all my top horses were taken away from me it really broke my spirit. I was close to giving up on the dream of having a long term successful partnership with any horse. I was so down and pessimistic in this time and then Sprehe offered me a job. "In the beginning it was a lot of work with all the horses but now after over a year of being here and most of the horses not having been sold I am finally after 10 years of highs and lows getting the chance to set goals and achieve my big dreams. Im so thankful to everyone who believed in me and pushed me to keep fighting! The road is long and hard but if I can do it- so can you. Never let anyone tell you your dreams are impossible" - Simone Pearce. #DressageDiary #Dressage #SimonePearce #AusEquestrianTeam #HighPerformance Dressage NSW Inc Dressage Queensland Dressage South Australia Dressage Western Australia Dressage Tasmania Dressage Victoria Dressage Australia

21.01.2022 Ill never forget it. The whole barn was just ablaze. Theres brave, and then theres Boyd Martin. From rescuing his horses from a devastating barn fire to c...ompeting at the highest level, Boyd Martins talent, mindset and mission to succeed is a powerful inspiration to us all. Sharing his story #ForTheLoveOfEquestrian, theres nothing holding back this FEI Eventing hero.

21.01.2022 What a fabulous opportunity riders had to get out and about at Boneo Park for the first metro/regional competition for many many months. Please please please r...iders remember that we are fortunate to get out and about again and to continue this we need to adhere to all the COVID social distance regulations and masks. The Organising committees are going to huge lengths to give us this chance and there have been a few photos pop up on Facebook that clearly show no social distancing and masks have been removed. So please for everyone’s sake, follow the rules and set a good example and image for our sport when out at competitions and also when publishing you great results. Congrats to all the competitors over the weekend.

21.01.2022 The state branches of Equestrian Australia still hold a veto over the members ability to reform our sport. We voted, they surveyed us and still they do not accept the verdict. We can let them know that as members we are engaged, we understand the issues and we want our say. Whatever model you see for the future, ask them to remove the veto prior to the SGM on the 15th September.

21.01.2022 Thank you everyone for your messages and support. We have passed 1000 likes and have around 500 signatories on our letter. We are so encouraged by the passio...n, engagement and deep consideration members are giving to the future of our sport! Lets keep the drive and let our State boards know we want them to remove their veto over our voice! See more

20.01.2022 2pm AEST today, Kate Connelly and Craig Shepard, in their capacities as Deed Administrators of Equestrian Australia (EA), will con...vene a Special General Meeting (SGM) of EA, to be held as a virtual meeting. The purpose of this meeting is to move as a special resolution that the constitution of EA (subject to Deed of Company Arrangement) be amended in accordance with the marked-up changes. ENT members should be aware that ENT has been excluded from this SGM as ENT does not hold a vote under the existing constitution. Furthermore, ENT also been excluded from the SGM as an observer. Historically, ENT has never been excluded from any meetings of this nature. Yesterday, Equestrian Queensland (EQ) and Acting EA CEO, Andrew Hamilton lobbied the Deed Administrators for the inclusion of ENT at this meeting. Their request was denied. It was advised by the Deed Administrators that only voting members could attend, and that they had also received requests from other interest groups to attend. If they were to admit ENT to the meeting, they would need to let all parties attend. ENT should not be considered in the same vein as other interest groups. ENT is a recgonised branch under the EA Constitution, pays the same EA fees as all other state branches, and is bound by the same code of conduct, regulations, and policies. In attempt to overturn the Deed Administrators decision ENT has contacted the remaining five state chairs via their branch CEOs, seeking their support for inclusion of ENT as an observer during this meeting today. At the time of this communique ENT has received no additional advice. The Deed Administrators actions does not bode well for ENT inclusion in future discussion around EA governance reform. 20.01.2022 If you read one social post today let this be it... These images show the helmet of top US Showjumper Laura Kraut after her recent fall. Lauras horse was weari...ng studs and as Laura landed her head was stepped on twice. Laura sustained injuries to her face but incredibly is back in the show ring today as her helmet was designed to withstand this kind of impact scenario, the PAS 015 (PAS 015:2011) standard, with a BSI Kitemark (this kitemark means the helmet is retested every year). If your helmet does not show this PAS 015 BSI Kitemark on the label, your helmet is not designed to withstand this level of crush or stud injury.* What could have been a much worse injury wasnt just prevented because she wore a helmet, but because she wore THE RIGHT helmet. You only get one head and one brain, protect it with the best. All Charles Owen helmets are made in Britain and tested in our in-house testing facility. Please share this post to protect your fellow riders from a future fatal accident and to raise awareness of the importance of the PAS 015 standard. Laura wore an Ayr8 on the day of her accident and is remarkably already back competing today. *SNELL safety standard also provides a very high level of protection for crush and stud injuries, you can find this in our 4STAR helmet. VG1 & ASTM do also provide a level of protection but not to the same level as PAS 015.

17.01.2022 Margaret (Marg) Elizabeth (Young) McIver 7th August 1933 - 21st July 2020 Please have a look at the September edition of Horse Deals, page 40. There is a fabulous article on Equestrian Legend, Margaret McIver. ... Quote from Moya Jess: Marg has such an eye for detail and was so fastidious about establishing the correct basics. She was awarded the Australian Sports Medal in 2000, was a level 111 coach, an A Level Judge and Victorian representative on the National Dressage Council. Marg was a life member of EA, the Victorian Dressage Club, NSW Dressage Council, Western Victorian Dressage Club and a Life Member of the Victorian Young Rider Dressage Squad and its Patron. Margaret influenced so many riders. RIP Marg From DIL, Jan McIver And was granted an Honorary Doctorate by the University of Ballarat for Sports Science. Something that overwhelmed Marg at the time! As she was often in trouble in class at Ballarats Clarendon College. (she just wanted to go riding)

17.01.2022 On the eve of the vote at the SGM, we are overwhelmed with the support we have received from members in all corners of Australia. There is a great energy to bu...ild the best governance and structure for our sport possible. Yet, while we have some concessions from five of the six states with commitments not to use the veto power against their members, we are still going into the reform process encumbered by the fact that any combination of two boards can still use their votes to stop or limit true reform. We dont accept that the veto is about protecting smaller states or even mandates held by certain states to protect their members. This is about a clear path forward to design a model that has the best structure, the best governance and will allow the best people to run equestrian sports for the benefit of members wherever they may be. After all, we are all Australians first and foremost.

16.01.2022 Riders for Reform would like to acknowledge the statement put out by Equestrian Victoria, and the EV Boards commitment to NOT exercising its vote to veto propo...sed changes to the EA Constitution, without the support of Victorian members. We welcome this significant gesture towards genuine reform and thank Carl Parkin and the Equestrian Vic Board.

16.01.2022 Our wonderful coaches are integral to our sport. Today we hear from Caroline Coleby and her vision for coaching.

14.01.2022 Riders for Reform started with the intention of bringing together EA members committed to genuine reform. We believed that a powerful voice from some of our el...ite riders would be compelling in asking the State branches to remove their veto over members votes. Our call for signatories resulted in overwhelming support; from so many elite riders across disciplines, but also from literally hundreds of grassroots members. Many people have contacted us to say they want reform, good governance, good structure, and the opportunity to reshape our sport ready for the next generation. Personally we feel disappointed that we did not achieve the removal of the veto. Nonetheless we are committed to the reform process, to sharing ideas and discussion to assist the interim board develop a model that has the support of a majority of members. If it is what you the members want, from this point we will turn the focus to that goal. As well as sharing stories from members of all backgrounds, we will highlight aspects of the models proposed and also principles of governance and structure for discussion. We want this to be a place for open and respectful discussion and hope you will join us to that end. Please contact us with issues youd like us to cover.

14.01.2022 On this evening 20 years ago we were full of excited anticipation, knowing tomorrow, unbelievably we were going to open the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. With a li...ttle known 7 year old horse who was bought as a companion for our Stallion Jamieson. Ammo, (registered as Woomera, born in Narrabri ) had been to one local dressage event and had given a few riding lessons in the school. On the night of the Opening Ceremony the whole of Australia and the world rode on his back. Surprisingly, there was no back up horse! This was a great concern, because what if he was injured or just decided he wasnt interested anymore!! The brief was for Ammo to gallop onto centre stage and Rear up so Steve could crack his whip, signalling the opening of the 2000 Olympic Games. Its sounds pretty easy...except horses are creatures of habits and multiple secret rehearsals in the early hours of the morning, so the media could not catch on, meant Ammo knew his job. It was easy .......Gallop in from A - Stop at B - rear then gallop out through the exit. Three nights before the big night Ammo did a perfect rear, standing up, punching the air with his front feet for what seemed like minutes. Of course the creative crew went berserk, excited because artistically that was exactly what they wanted! Not much pressure on us to deliver But this was a horse with a mind of his own, ridden by a human with an amazing amount of pressure to deliver a perfect picture of the iconic Australian stockman. On the night Ammo was pumped, the crowd was electric and he felt it. In the Vom (Entrance tunnel) where he stood, the roof was very low and he was so tuned he was trying to rear in the small space. Not good if Steves head was crushed! So the amazing stage managers feed him biscuits procured from the green room to keep his feet on the ground. Then the count down, the thousands of people chanted ........ 5-4-3-2-1 and Ammo exploded at full gallop, Steve was worried he wasnt going to stop and might end up in John Howards lap! But he did stop and after an initially half rear went up a second time. High in the air with all his weight on one foot. Steve cracked the whip and off they went. Followed by the most amazing ceremony designed by Ignatius Jones and David Atkins!!! This incredible depiction of the relationship between horse and rider has become, and will remain, an iconic image in Australians history.

14.01.2022 #MySydney2000 | 20 Years Ago Andrew Hoy was the first team rider to step into the arena for Australia at the Sydney Olympic Games and the crowd went wild ...as he made his entrance on home soil. Andrew and his horse Darien Powers were again on the Australian Team following their Gold Medal performance at the 1996 Atlanta Games. Andrew and the iconic grey produced a jaw-dropping dressage test that laid down the gauntlet for the rest of the competitors. Team Australia meant business and they were chasing a third consecutive Gold Andrews score of 30.6 was unmatched across the two days of dressage competition. "Darien Powers joined me at the age of six and we went on to win two Olympic Gold Medals together. He has been a very special horse to me and to many people following his career - he will always have a place in my heart" says Andrew of his partnership with Darien Powers. 13.01.2022 RULES | Protective headgear will be mandatory in FEI dressage from 1 January 2021 as the FEI stands behind the decision it made at last year's FEI General A...ssembly despite a petition put forward by the International Dressage Riders’ Club requesting to maintain the option to use top hats in senior international competitions The FEI Board discussed the issue again at the 2020 General Assembly and, although this rule has already been approved at last year’s General Assembly and is not an FEI Board decision, voted unanimously to maintain implementation on 1 January 2021. The FEI Board support for the General Assembly decision was based on safety grounds, the fact that a full consultation process had been conducted prior to the vote at the 2019 General Assembly, and that there is a clear and transparent process for Rules revision. 03.01.2022 #MySydney2000 | Tomorrow marks 20 years since the Opening Ceremony of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games and the lighting of the Olympic cauldron in spectacular fash...ion by Cathy Freeman. There were 11,000 people who carried the torch within Australia including two of our very own equestrian heroes Gillian Rolton and Peppermint Grove aka Fred. The pair took the torch on its first leg of the Olympic torch relay in Adelaide ahead of the 2000 Sydney Games Gill won gold at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games but made headlines around the world and became a household name four years later for her ride in Atlanta where she won her second gold medal She sustained a broken collarbone and cracked her ribs five minutes into the event when Peppermint Grove lost his footing and fell twice. Gill got back in the saddle both times and successfully completed the course to secure team gold for Australia "You dont go to the Games to be a wuss, you dont go to the Games to be a wimp," said Gill of her actions in Atlanta.
