25.01.2022 You’d have noticed the Goulburn River has been fluctuating quite a bit in recent months - and it's currently on the up again! As it’s been raining, a fair bit o...f water is running off the land into the upstream creeks that then flow into the Goulburn River. Now that Waranga Basin is pretty much full GMW is letting the water flow through Goulburn Weir and down the lower Goulburn, which is what would have happened under natural conditions. The higher flows at this time of the year benefit the river - the flows deposit seed-rich sediment, which is needed to help bank-stabilising plants grow and spread, and provide food and shelter for fish and other aquatic wildlife. Find out more about weekly flows in the lower Goulburn here: https://bit.ly/2QjRY5G Check the BoM website for current river heights. @Goulburn-Murray Water Goulburn Valley Water Victorian Environmental Water Holder RiverConnect - Greater Shepparton Victorian Fisheries Authority DELWP Hume Yorta Yorta Nation Aboriginal Corporation See more

23.01.2022 Water for the environment sustains plant life in and around wetlands which then provides habitat and food for waterbirds, water bugs, frogs and turtles. 20.01.2022 The watering at Annulus is progressing well. We have seen a great response from the ducks creating a duck crèche! The frogs are now starting to get vocal too.... We are working with Victorian Environmental Water Holder to provide water to this billabong to help understand it's long term watering requirements. If you are in the area, please do not walk through the billabong why not take a frog census recording from the safety of the bank. https://bit.ly/3c6c39O : Andrew Lees (Friends of Yarra Flats) #citizenscience #waterfortheenvironment Parks Victoria Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Cultural Heritage Aboriginal Corporation.

14.01.2022 It’s National Water Week! Here at the VEWH we all feel passionate about looking after our waterways for current and future generations to enjoy. To see what the VEWH is doing to improve rivers and wetlands across the state click here www.vewh.vic.gov.au.

14.01.2022 The annual Aussie Backyard Bird Count is underway. Head to https://aussiebirdcount.org.au/ to find out more. Did you know that environmental flows provide great opportunities for birdwatchers across Victoria? This is because many waterbird species seek refuge at wetlands that receive water for the environment. A crimson chat was spotted at Reedy Swamp near Shepparton following spring deliveries in 2019. Head to www.vewh.vic.gov.au to see other areas we deliver water for ...the environment. #W4TE BirdLife Australia

12.01.2022 During the changes we’ve adapted to in 2020, our focus has remained on taking care of Wimmera waterways using a combination of environmental water releases an...d waterway works to keep them healthy and prepare for the hot summer ahead. We are feeling optimistic as we count down to the end of 2020 with hopes for a wetter year and the return of our all-important river-based events in 2021. 10.01.2022 Last December we installed floating wetlands in the Wimmera River at Dimboola. It's the first project of its type in the Wimmera but is used successfully in oth...er areas to reduce bank erosion. We have checked in regularly to see how things have progressed and we planted an extra 800 native plants. On our latest inspection we can see that they have greatly reduced the wave energy which causes bank erosion and are doing their job! They also improve the delivery of water for the environment, and feature in our Spring update: http://ow.ly/e1Ln50Cib5l Photo 1: December 2019 Photo 2: March 2020 Photo 3: October 2020 #waterwaysforlife #waterways #healthywaterways #WimmeraRiver #Wimmerwaterways #envflows #waterfortheenvironment #environmentalwater Victorian Environmental Water Holder Dimboola Courier

09.01.2022 By delivering water for the environment along rivers many threatened native fish can move upstream and downstream and we can help maintain water quality for fish, waterbugs, aquatic plants and other water-dependent animals. to breed. 05.01.2022 Our environmental flow release will commence shortly for the Tarago River! Our Spring High Flow will run from Tuesday, 1 September though to Wednesday, 9 Septem...ber, commencing from Tarago reservoir with peak flows of 300 ML/day on the 4th and 5th of September at Drouin West. This release is delivered on behalf of the Victorian Environmental Water Holder and is a priority action in the Seasonal Watering Plan 2020/21. The Tarago River has seen some good flows naturally over winter with this high flow event providing an extended duration and timing necessary to provide a cue for fish migration and improve habitat in spring. We will monitor conditions over the release period and make necessary amendments as required.

05.01.2022 By keeping outdoor gathering to 10 people, we help minimise the number of people who could catch and spread coronavirus. Smaller catch-ups helps us keep on top of the virus. Victoria, let’s stay safe and stay open.

01.01.2022 Today is World Fish Migration Day. In an Australian-first research project, Melbourne Water and the Arthur Rylah Institute have been tracking the movements of f...our migratory fish species; short-finned eels, tupong, common galaxias and Australian grayling. Our animation shows the release of environmental water into the river. Adult fish migrate downstream in response, in order to spawn, while juvenile fish move upstream. Short-finned eels spawn their eggs in distant tropical waters, Australian grayling and common galaxias migrate to the lower reaches of the river to spawn, while tupong die after spawning, their larvae disperse over broad areas in the ocean.
