25.01.2022 Hows everyones winter maintenance going?

25.01.2022 New Mylar sail almost done ready for a week of training and testing at Yarrawonga this weekend.

25.01.2022 Four more ready for their new boats.

25.01.2022 Nearly all the fittings done to put the new masts together. Cant wait to try one.

25.01.2022 Sad but probably for the best. Stay tuned as we will be running an alternative impulse regatta in vic if restrictions allow. Will keep you informed.

25.01.2022 Agm and pizza night about to begin.

22.01.2022 For years I have been designing, building and working on boats, mostly for the reason I couldnt afford to buy new or pay others to do work for me. Over and over Ive been asked if Id do work on other peoples boats but for the most part Ive resisted for the reason I didnt want my passion of sailing to become lessened by having it as a job. Recently Ive had a change of heart and have begun winding back my other businesses to concentrate more on boats. This was in some... part due to recently becoming a partner in MD Spars and Fittings, where we supply masts and custom fittings to the marine industry, but also because Im enjoying passing on my knowledge and skills for others to enjoy and hopefully benefit from. I guess what Im leading to is that Beast Yacht Racings doors are open for your boat maintenance, upgrades, modifications and repairs. I also specialise in systems design so your boat can work the way it should to give you the results your after. Here I mainly use Ronstan fittings as Im lucky to be a supplier. I dont stop at boats either as owning both mechanical and fabricating businesses I can look after all your trailer and mechanical needs also. Im only easing into this new venture but please dont hesitate to call if your keen on getting your boat up to speed for the upcoming season. Regards Russell 0418996753.

22.01.2022 More stiffeners in stock for the MD masts but they can be supplied with nose pieces so they neatly slip into a bond mast.

22.01.2022 Why is it that every mast I build I want to keep?

22.01.2022 Finally finished (almost) the trailersaurus!!

21.01.2022 Winter maintenance. Flipped the BEAST over. A couple of scratches to rub and polish out and two stone gouges to glass and touch up. Not bad for a full season living at a lake with rocky banks.

21.01.2022 First fully finished customer boom.

19.01.2022 Managed to get 6 out of the Sydney warehouse thanks to Colin Andrew. Bend tests done and very happy. Just waiting on our new fittings to be finished and we can try them for real.

19.01.2022 Simplicity in its finest c/o MD Spars and Fittings.

19.01.2022 This one looks nice. Want to keep it but unfortunately its sold.

18.01.2022 Nice 10 to 15 Knot Southwester for the second fun race for this season. 4 Impulses, 1 Finn, 1 Mosquito and 1 Opti taking part in the race. Also a Laser, Opti an...d Sabre out for a social sail. No official results yet but think Rusty for the win followed closely by Chas. Thanks to Darren and Cody for doing on water duty again. Cheers Nod. PS We need a PRO for next weekend, any takers? See more

16.01.2022 People say I go overboard with everything I do. I don’t know what their talking about.

16.01.2022 So its clear boating is out for us in VIC for now and I can fully understand the reasoning. Guess not everyone has a lake next door and all to themselves to ensure social distancing. Lucky I got one last sail in today to try out the new rag. Ill need to rack up against other boats but so far Im very pleased as its doing everything better than previous models and looks pretty too.

16.01.2022 Just a quick reminder about the states at Portarlington in a bit over a week. This year they are heavily subsidised and are only $50.00 which will include a $25.00 cap and a pizza night. Should be a terrific series and according to long range weather thats looking good as well. Entries will be taken on the day so please bring cash. Also dont forget we need some new committee members. Mainly a treasurer and president.

15.01.2022 Brownie and Bruce tried for a sail at Sunshine today but the wind died out. New masts and sails were given the big tick by the legend Bob Foster even without them getting wet. Hoping to get out for more testing in NSW this Friday and in Vic Tuesday or Wednesday.

15.01.2022 Well it just got harder at the top of the fleet. Its with great pleasure that I introduce a new member to our Impulse fleet. Andrew is not only a multiple World, National and State champion, he is an innovator and a hell of a nice guy. He has just purchased a Dingy Sport hull running an MD rig and Im sure he will be fitting one of his own design sails shortly. The following is his Wikipedia profile: Andrew Landenberger (born 15 September 1966) is an Australian competiti...ve sailor and Olympic medalist. He won a silver medal in the Tornado class at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta,[1] together with Mitch Booth. Born in Grafton, New South Wales, Landenberger started building sails in Australia under his own label in 1987. The first sails were produced on his parents living room floor with a sewing machine he bought for $50. By 1989 he claimed his first clean sweep winning the State, National and World Championships in the International Moth Class. Despite spending several years obtaining a Bachelor of Economics Degree, Landenbergers desire to build fast sails always drove him to devote full attention to sailing and the technology side of sail making. By 1996 Landenberger had won an Olympic Silver Medal in the Tornado Class together with Mitch Booth. Since then the full energy has been devoted to sail making. Learn more This section contains content that is written like an advertisement. In 2001 Landenberger made the decision to move with his family to Germany. Landenberger One Design has developed into a business of eight staff specializing mostly in One Design Classes. The production is headed up by Felix Egner who has been with the company since 2004. Despite little time for sailing Landenberger and Egner have sailed two regattas together in the past two years "just for fun" but managed to finish 1st in the 2005 Topcat K1 World Championships and 3rd in the 2006 F18 World Championships. Landenberger is currently spending time sailing in the Star class to develop a new range of sail for the loft. Both the development process and the production techniques are heavily orientated around computer software. Sail making has moved on from an art to an exact science. On average the process we adopt to develop sails in new classes brings us to a very competitive product within three prototypes. This is far quicker than most other One Design lofts can manage who often make a not stop progression of random changes searching for any hint of improvement in performance. In 2007 Landenberger build a second home in Australia on the banks of the Clarence River. Here he has an extensive design loft where he can develop sails and escape the European winter. Although he spends more time these days designing sails he still remains one of the worlds leading multihull sailors. I think to update this he had won the last two A Class Classic Catamaran Worlds and is living and operating the family farm in NSW, looking forward to sailing the Impulse.

14.01.2022 Looking to buy Impulse Dinghy with beach dolly located in Vic.

14.01.2022 Very sad news this week to hear of our good friend Glen Yates (Yatesy). He will be greatly missed by many and we send our support and love to his wife Yan and family.

13.01.2022 This Sunday at 1:00 pm 4 or 5 impulses are gathering for a training session at Bendigo Yacht Club. This leaves room for 5 others (no partners or family) to come along if people want to make the trip. Please let me know if your coming as we cant have more than 10. Russ.

13.01.2022 Just wanted to clear up a bit of confusion as Ive heard a few people are concerned that Ive been talking to myself by answering my MDSpars comments as Beastyachtracing. Whilst one could easily assume, because Ive been posting for sometime about MD spars, that it is me but, whilst I am a partner in the business, it would have been impossible to achieve what we have without having a much smarter and more capable partner, being Bruce McArthur, who is the M in the MD spars. ... In fact MD came about by two best mates throwing around some ideas over a couple of bourbons and before we knew it we are where we are today, with not only what we are doing for ourselves and in the Impulse class but also supplying high quality masts to 5 other classes within 12 months of pouring that first bourbon. Whilst I do have a few good ideas now and again, Bruce has been the major force behind MD and I think myself lucky and honoured to be involved. So keep this in mind when I do post feedback, because Im not completely crazy and I am really answering something Bruce has posted, more than likely about the monumental work he has been doing behind the scenes in NSW with his business contacts, Brownie and other sailing mates. . 12.01.2022 Hi. I'm interested in buying an Impulse. Based in central Vic. Up to $5k. Cheers

12.01.2022 With this isolation thing its hard not to be a couch potato and forget about our weight. Just reminding everyone about our bet for the nationals.

11.01.2022 So Im thinking the real reason Pez, Browny and some other NSW people postponed the nationals is they couldnt get under the required 90kg to not wear a mankini in the invitation race. This poses an issue as Ive been producing these in the loft for some months in the various state colours and in preparation due to the side effects of covid, that being significant weight gain by many of our skippers. To escape from impending bankruptcy I am offering these for sale. I have 50 up for grabs so PM me if your interested. Please dont !!!!! It is a gag.

10.01.2022 Thats Bruces hairy leg not mine

08.01.2022 So after 12 months research, development and alloy grade testing the masts have been made and delivered. Next is to unpack the crate and do a quality control check. All going well it wont be long before we begin on the water R+D. Given a good outcome they will be available and on sale before next season.

08.01.2022 More on this later but would love for the impulse family to support this weekend. Perhaps we could work in some training. Money is going to the fire effected clubs.

07.01.2022 Congratulations to Andrew (Landy) Landenburger on his 1st place in his first ever Impulse regatta at BRSC. Dinghy Sports platform, MD Spars rig and a borrowed s...ail from MC Sails. Hate to see how quick he will be when his Landenberger One Design sail arrives! Thanks to Brian Wright for the updates and photos all weekend. See more

06.01.2022 Just if people are interested I thought Id explain the process Involved in producing fittings. Firstly you need to determine if there is a need but probably more importantly is it possible to produce a product that is an improvement yet keep things simple, cost effective and keeping weight to a minimum. Once youve got the concept you need to measure, design and make a prototype to see if it will work before you even think of going into production. Once the prototype... tests are completed and any modifications are done you strip it back and measure each part and the data is uploaded to design software so the parts can be laser cut or milled. The exciting bit is when you get boxes of bits to put together that makes a shiny new toy. Ive uploaded a few sample photos of some of the parts currently under production and the process that we went through.

05.01.2022 Photos are a bit misleading with drives, depths etc but goes from very grunty to nice and flat and twisty.

05.01.2022 Great weekend at the Impulse states. Racing was so close.

05.01.2022 Gee thought are with NSW and their states. Hope the forecast settles as the week progresses otherwise it’s going to be full on all weekend.

04.01.2022 I received this today and Im sure they wouldnt mind sharing it although its early days. Could be a terrific event for us though. Im reaching out to you on behalf of Indented Head YC on the Bellarine peninsula because were planning a new Sail Bellarine event and we wanted to invite the Impulses as one of five initial classes to participate in the inaugural event scheduled for May 1-2, 2021. The essence of the event is to create our own Bellarine version of Sail Count...ry. Itll be based on the highly successful Sail Country format where its a fun, family event where people can camp and have a great weekend away whilst getting some good, informal racing. Were planning on inviting the Lasers, Tasars, Optis, Sabres and Impulses with a view to running separate racing for each fleet. Keen to get your committees response as to whether youre keen to add this event to your formal class calendar for 20/21 and to know if there are any specific requirements that will help drive engagement and participation from your members. Cheers

03.01.2022 So times if gloom so I thought Id share some positive news. At least it is for me and all going well for the impulse class. Firstly the new MD Impulse spars have landed and the quality looks insane. We had the tempering and the alloy tested and we are excited about this also. Preliminary bend tests have shown better results than expected but we are curbing our excitement until I get my hands on one and perform the tests in my factory which will give us the precise outco...mes. We have also been working with our carbon suppliers and have come up with a super light tube using 10% inner carbon weave 70% high modulus uni directional carbon with the remaining 20% outer layers being S glass weave to provide stability and insulation. They will be framed away from the alloy also. These are made in an autoclave and are high temp baked epoxy, so no softening off on a hot day. Best thing is they will be very affordable as we are purchasing bulk orders. The fittings are all under production as well where we have not compromised on quality or design. One thing Im particularly excited about is sail development. We have been working with a few prominent Impulse sailors and one very successful sailmaker. (More details later) In particular we have been working with Hugh Myers. Hugh has for many managed prominent UK sail lofts as well as being a lead designer. He since has been working within his own design studios focusing on Olympic team sail development and also works with many word champion sailors where he provides his expertise. As my sails as well as our partners sails are hand cut using templates, Hugh has agreed to take our current measurements and use his software to not just reproduce our sails but render them which should offer significant improvements. Contender will then provide them as fully plotted sails ready for our Sydney sailmaker to assemble. The outcome should be state of the art sails at reasonable prices off the shelf. Thats about all my news. Im working on our next couple of training weekends but this corona thing will dictate what happens there. Stay safe. Russell.

03.01.2022 SI and NOR should be on Website Soon for Vic States.SI and NOR should be on Website Soon for Vic States.

03.01.2022 Thought it was time for a sailing post but I saw this.

03.01.2022 Anyone keen on an impulse project whilst in lockdown? Solid little thing but will need lots of elbow grease. Just picked it up and the owner is open to offers and that wont be much.

02.01.2022 Due to the unfortunate circumstances that lead to our nationals and traveler series being cancelled, the Victorian Impulse Association have chosen the McCrae Ronstan Australia Day Regatta - 23-26 January for our alternative regatta for the Nats and the first traveler series for the season. We would hope that many of our members attend as it will be not only great racing, as usual but also a terrific chance to catch up at a welcoming and well catered for venue. Some of u...s are thinking of booking accomodation together so please let us know if you are keen. If we could also enter as soon as possible as we would like to ensure we get our own division and it will help the organisers to plan and cater. Please read on for details. McCYC is proud to be hosting the BIGGEST Ronstan Regatta held so far - 12 races over 4 days with prizes and post-race refreshments on Saturday, Sunday and Monday for just $70!!! If you're after value for money combined with top-level race management and refurbished club-rooms: this event is the one for you. 02.01.2022 A message from our leader

02.01.2022 New sail should be done tomorrow. Will be interesting how the computer interpreted our design and what it looks like.

01.01.2022 Just to let our members know now it’s been made public in NSW. Our good mate Glenn Yates was returning with his new boat from Tasmania when early Friday struck trouble. His boat was found Saturday morning but he was not aboard. My prayers go out for something miraculous and thought go to his family and his friends in NSW who are very distraught. Russ.
