24.01.2022 Dirt and water 2 very simple and basic ingredients have and continue to be the source of so much activity, creativity, joy, and sensory fun for children and adults. One of the children's Uncles made this mud kitchen for us and the children are loving getting creative, dirty, active, and happy. Do you remember what it felt like when you were able to squelch mud through your toes and create delicious mud pies?
24.01.2022 Did you know we operate a QLD government approved Kindy program each day here at Vickers Road? Miss Megan is a qualified ECT teacher with many years experience in early childcare. We currently have vacancies and are taking enrolments now. Your child could attend kindy for as little as $13* per week. We also have limited vacancies throughout out our entire centre, enquire now for more information. *conditions apply
24.01.2022 Our lives sure have been a little different over the past month. We are missing some of our little friends here at Vickers Road, so we decided to send them a little package in the mail. I loved receiving this photo and email this morning, it absolutely made my morning to realise a simple gesture could mean so much to our little friends who can't be here right now. We hope everyone is staying safe and enjoying the extra time with your family. We can't wait to have everyone back at Kindy real soon :) "Thank you so much!!! Elijah was so excited and got stuck in right away at his little craft table Ive set up for him. We miss you all heaps, hope we can come back really soon!"
23.01.2022 Children have been showing a great interest in camping lately. On Friday we created a campfire, we worked cooperatively with children using clay to stick wooden sticks to the bucket and lots of glue to make sure they stayed there. We also used some red and yellow cello paper to imitate fire flames. (EYLF: 4.1; 4.4) During the process children were involved in conversation about the importance of fire in Aboriginal culture. Traditionally, fire was used as a practical tool... in hunting, cooking, warmth and managing the landscape. It also holds great spiritual meaning, with many stories, memories and dance being passed down around the fire. (EYLF: 2.1; 2.2; 5.1) We also look forward to using this pretend fire during group times as a yarning circle - (another important symbol in Aboriginal culture), which encourages responsible, respectful and honest interactions between participants, building trusting relationships; provides a safe place to be heard and to respond and enriches learning experiences for children. Today we joined in a circle having marshmallows and showing respect care and empathy to each other. We made lots of new discoveries and shared happiness and enjoyment during this experience. (EYLF: 1.4; 3.1) Miss Olena.
23.01.2022 We are hiring! We are currently looking for a passionate, enthusiastic and reliable Educator to join our team. Please see information below.
23.01.2022 We all rocked in our Pyjamas today and were so comfy and snuggly at Kindy to help raise awareness and funds for the Pyjama foundation. The Pyjama Foundation's mission it to ensure as many foster kids as possible receive that one-on-one learning support that they don't often receive in a school-based setting. Without funding, The Pyjama Foundation wouldn't be able to offer this program free to children in foster care. ... 23.01.2022 During play in the Frogs room we got out the Q-Toys, these wooden blocks give the children the option of expanding their imagination and creativity to be able to create their own masterpieces. By introducing hammers it promoted hand eye coordination.
22.01.2022 We love integrating music into the children's day as much as we can. Music positively impacts the growth and development of our brains at all stages of life, particularly when we are young. The children love to interact with Miss Dea when she is playing the guitar, whether its up close and interactive or sitting back and taking it all in. Everyone enjoys music and movement time.
21.01.2022 Do you love cooking and providing children with nutritious meals? Are you passionate about working with children? If so, we have the perfect job for you. We are currently seeking a centre cook/educator. See job descriptions below and email your resume to [email protected]
20.01.2022 We have continued to explore process art in the Frogs and Dinos room. We used our outside learning time to explore another painting experience where we emphasised the learning that occurs during painting instead of the picture at the end of the experience. We used little new syringes, that were kindly donated by a community member. After using our fine motor skills to open the packets we set them up in some runny paint. Now for the fun part... we used our small muscle groups ...to suck the paint into the syringe and fire it at the paper on the easel. SPLAT... We giggled and laughed as the paint hit the paper and ran down the easel. We needed a little help at times as we worked hard to problem solve solutions when we found it a little challenging to draw the paint up into the syringe. During this experience we used our verbal communication skills and developed our knowledge of descriptive words. 'Look! It's dripping", 'It made a splash", '"I'm making dot's" we explained. We noticed that as the colours mixed a new colour was created. Maybe next time we might explore ways to create new colours. See more
20.01.2022 There are many different ways to paint, and through art we learn many skills we can use throughout life. Today we explored process art, this experience places all the value on the art experience and techniques used, as opposed to the pretty picture at the end. Miss Nicole hung clipboards from the big tree outside using string. We had paint on a paint palette and used a fine brush. The paint colour was carefully selected to represent the colours in the yard such as green for l...eaves and purple for the large flowers that grow and fall from our big tree. We faced many challenges throughout our painting experience, "it keeps spinning" we noticed, "argh, it's too hard" we said as we persevered with the activity. We problem solved ways to get our paint on the paper, while both our hands were full and the paper was spinning, using our whole body coordination skills. We discovered the use of force and friction and the impact it had on our experience, we used different techniques and varied levels of force and motion such as hard and soft, dots and stripes, up and down as well as as left and right. We learned so much throughout this experience and were very proud of our process art. There were no perfectly formed flowers, however, there were many happy, smiling children learning through play. 19.01.2022 Happy Early Childhood Educators day to all our amazing Educators at Vickers road! Today we take the time to say thank you to educators for all the work they do. I truly appreciate the team here at Vickers road and I am lucky to work along side them each and every day. Our team constantly goes above and beyond expectations and I know the children and families appreciate them.

18.01.2022 This year is going to be a very different ANZAC day for all of our children and families but we still take the time to acknowledge and pay our respects to the ANZACs. Will your family be honoring ANZAC day at the end of your drive way this year. We would love you to share some photos with us. Below is a link to the childrens story My Granddad Marches by Catriona Hoy if you would like to watch it with your children. My Granddad Marches online https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=EdLsRlWb1bU
15.01.2022 Recognise, React, Report. Day for Daniel is Australia's largest day of action to raise awareness of child safety, protection, and harm prevention. Held annually on the last Friday of October, Day for Daniel honours the memory of Daniel Morcombe. At Vickers Road we helped raise awareness for children's safety, and taught the children that every child deserves the right to be Safe in any situation.
15.01.2022 Today we explored Miss Lizzy's culture, background and traditions, participating in some traditional island cooking. We made Sabee Sabee Domboy. We sat together and watched closely as Miss Lizzy added each ingredient and told us what she was up to. She gave us each a piece of dough to investigate and we mirrored her actions, "roll, roll, roll" we said as we rolled it. Once it was ready to cook, we sat outside the kitchen and watched on with great curiosity as Miss Lizzy placed the dough in the pan to cook. Thank you Miss Lizzy for sharing this with us.
15.01.2022 This week in the Joeys room we discovered that we could use our outdoor equipment as musical instruments! We have always loved using our shakers, banging on our drums and strumming the guitar in music and movement, however exploring our room and outdoor resources to fine our own instruments was a delight for our Joeys . We gathered our sandpit utensils, bottles and containers over to our we - play dome, we started to bang using our hands to make a soft sound, we then used our hands to bang a little louder. The children then used our sandpit equipment to bang onto our dome to make all different sounds. The children wiggled and giggled while making outdoor music. We really enjoyed this experience, our joeys will continue to explore the different ways we can make music using different room resources.
14.01.2022 I thought I would share this for all families who may be struggling to explain exactly what corona virus is to your children. I find it to be a helpful tool to show children who may be feeling worried, scared, confused, anxious etc about Corona virus. Hopefully this helps you.
14.01.2022 Thank you to Daniel for visiting us today and playing the didgeridoo. The children loved hearing all about how didgeridoos are made, how they sound, and learning all about the artwork you paint on your didgeridoos. NAIDOC week sure has been very fun and activity filled, with lots of learning about Aboriginal and TSI culture.
14.01.2022 For our yoga session today we engaged in increasingly complex sensory motor skills and movements, combining gross and fine motor movements and balance to achieve increasingly complex patterns of activity including dance. We are beginning to demonstrate spatial awareness and orient ourselves, moving around and through the environment confidently and safely. Seeking assistance from Miss Dea and Miss Jess to balance on one leg when we felt the need for help. We manipulated and managed tools with increasing competence and skills, working very hard to balance a pom pom on the end of a spoon and a tissue on our heads. Walking around with the tissue was very tricky when the wind blew it, but we remained confident and experienced the satisfaction of success once we had done it.
13.01.2022 We were very busy last week investigating and hypothesizing on all things science. We've learnt the difference between heavy and light. by using multiple methods like adding items to water and learning that if they are heavy they will sink and we also investigated the scales to also help determine what's heavy and light. We have also been looking at volcanoes and decided to replicate one. We found out that bicarb and vinegar caused a reaction and created something magical. We experimented and hypothesized what would happen when we mixed food colouring in oil and put it in water. We created fireworks in a jar. This experiment was similar to the rain cloud in a jar, practicing our patience by waiting for the food colouring to come through the shaving foam. We have really loved learning about all things Science.
13.01.2022 This week the Frogs have been looking at road safety. We have been watching Constable Kenny talk about staying safe on the road. STOP on the footpath and hold an adults hand and don't step onto the road, LOOK right and left and right again, LISTEN for any traffic including push bikes, THINK is it safe for me to cross, WALK once we know it is safe never letting go of an adults hand. Today we locked up the centre gates and practiced these skills we have been learning throughout the week in our carpark.
13.01.2022 It was so hot outside this morning that we couldn't help but have water play. As soon as we noticed Kiss Kacey get the sprinkler, we quickly followed her with great excitement. Once the sprinkler was on, we were very interested to investigate how it worked. We observed it spin for a short time before exploring it with our hands, we laughed when we figured out how to stop it from spinning. We gathered a variety of different containers, trucks and helmets in an attempt to collect water. We discovered that some worked better than others.
13.01.2022 At Vickers road Childcare centre we encourage children to be curious about nature and different animals. Children were very exited to see a big green frog today and showed care and respect by not touching it. We created beautiful collages and learnt the colour green.
12.01.2022 Today we celebrate Early Childhood Educators day! Thank you to all our amazing educators, we truly appreciate the amazing job you do. We are so fortunate to have a wonderful parent committee who helped organise an amazing day for all our wonderful educators today.
12.01.2022 Our Educators are never far away and our children always feel supported and encouraged when taking risks and trying new things. Risk taking allows our children to grow emotionally, mentally and physically and we love seeing the sense of achievement on their faces when they have mastered something new.
11.01.2022 We are looking for a casual educator to join our team. Please see the information below if you are interested in a career in Childcare.
11.01.2022 Today we did Aboriginal symbol painting on our entrance path. Educators held discussions with the children about what each symbol means and the children tried to replicate the symbols. Prior to this experience, Miss Kelly and the children crushed chalk to replicate traditional paint.
11.01.2022 Diwali - The festival of lights We have two families in the frogs room that celebrate this Hindu festival at home and have been sharing their knowledge about it. This week we celebrated at kindy and have been looking at the art form of Rangoli. The purpose of Rangoli is decoration, and is thought to bring good luck. We tried on clothes from India and explored the patterns on them. We tasted food made for this celebration also, having a sweet, salty and spicy taste to them - we loved it and today we danced and celebrated together.
09.01.2022 With thanks to all our generous parents, we were able to donate food supplies to those in need this Christmas. We love supporting local organisations like Upper Ross Community Centre to help those in need.
09.01.2022 Today the Ducks were curious and enthusiastic participants in their learning as they followed on and extended on their interest in the Australian animals. They used their creative minds by painting paper plates in the shape of a Koalas body with grey paint and glued the Koalas head at the top of the body to create their Koalas. At group time we all sat beautifully and listened to our favourite story "The Australian Animals", while reading the story Miss Lizzy held up the matching toy animal to each page. This was an exciting new way for us to explore our favourite story.
08.01.2022 Look how much fun our Ducks room (18 months - 2.5years) children had today. In the Ducks room today the children engaged in enjoyable interactions while exploring shredded paper, we had games of peek-a-boo and pretended it was snowing as we threw the paper up in the air and let it fall down onto our heads. We engaged in complex sensory motor movements, using our whole body to lay down and make snow angles. Our favourite part was burying Miss Kacey and Miss Lizzy in the paper and going to hunt for them. After the fun had finished, we worked together to scoop up all of the paper and put it into a bag for next time
07.01.2022 Tropical Friday Each Friday you will notice our staff in tropical outfits - because, why not ! Its great to see some of the children getting involved and wearing their tropical shirts also
07.01.2022 This evening we held our annual childrens Art gallery. All children have been working on their artwork over the past few weeks and were so proud to display their art and present it to their families this evening. Hosting this event later in the afternoon allows educators and families time to discuss the childrens development, answer any questions families may have, and time to go through the childrens learning portfolios. Social evenings spent together helps build stronger relationships with both families and children. What a wonderful evening had by all.
06.01.2022 The first week of the new year is always so exciting. Getting to know each other and preparing to meet all of our new friends starting with us this year. Did you know we still have some vacancies available. Why not start your child's love of learning off on the right foot, in the perfect environment with the most loving educators. Let the learning, games, laughter and love begin.
06.01.2022 In the Ducks room, we have been showing great interest in our baby dolls. We love to spend a lot of our time playing with them throughout the day. We show great kindness, care and compassion for the baby dolls throughout the day as we carefully bath them, lay them down to dry and dress them. Once they are finished being dressed, we gently rocked them in our arms ",shhhh" we said as we laid them down for sleep, "night, night baby".
06.01.2022 Book week dress-up day! Today we had so much fun dressing up for book week and showing off our costumes. We read all of our favourite books from home and kindy, enjoying lots of story time throughout the day. We did a lot of pretend play in our costumes and acted out our characters together.
06.01.2022 In the frogs room we have shown a big interest in caring for the environment. This all started on World Oceans day 8th June. We watched the 64,000 turtles off Raine Island waiting to lay their eggs. During this time, we had discussions about respecting our environment and keeping it clean to help look after the animals that live in the ocean. We then began to create our ocean animals using recycled material in our room reuse, not throw away. During Group time we found a l...ittle three-minute short story called A Whales Tale. This story follows a whale that tries to help keep the oceans clean by scooping up all the rubbish. This has taught the froggies a great message to pick up rubbish you find and throw it into the bin, so it does not go into the ocean and hurt our sea animals. We have done many experiences with the kids during this time. Rediscovering our pet fighter fish Pearl, putting him back on the table at the children's height. Setting up small world play with sea animals giving them the opportunity to create their own underwater imaginary world. We have used seashells in cloud dough, jelli baff sensory play with sea animals. Giving them the opportunity to explore different textures and having new experiences. Discovering different treasures throughout the jelli baff, finding rubbish around the room We could not believe that someone had put all this rubbish in the room and not in the bin. As this passion of the ocean continues we will further explore what the ocean is made up of, better look at the animals that call the ocean home and where they live. See more
05.01.2022 Wayne from Woolworths Willows came out to the centre to give us a sneak preview of their newest promotion Discovery Garden. From next week shoppers will receive a seed pod for every $30 spent. This will be a fantastic opportunity for the centre to continue to develop the childrens love of gardening,so if youre not a green thumb please consider collecting them and donating your seeds to us. There is a collection box in the foyer.
03.01.2022 Yesterday the children in the Ducks room participated in some loose parts play outside. We discovered a variety of pieces in our mud garden and brought them out to the path to investigate further. We quickly became curious as to what was happening and before long we were happily working collaboratively together to achieve a group outcome by using different types of materials to explore and construct a tower. We used trial and error to figure out what items we could use and how to use them to successfully complete the tower.
01.01.2022 Today we celebrated Grandparents day. What a wonderful morning sharing stories, playtime, art & craft and morning tea together with our wonderful Grandparents. Thank you to all the grandparents who play such an important role in our childrens lives. We have many more wonderful photos displayed in our centre foyer.
01.01.2022 Have you found a painted rock along your walk before? Last week our Dino children went searching through our large outside yard for some special painted rocks. We learnt that a number of our children often find painted rocks along their walks with their families, so our educators decided to extend on this interest and create our own rock finding activity. Miss Jackie painted a number of rocks and hide them around our yard for the children to explore and find. Many children joined in and the activity quickly became popular amongst all the children. As an extension on our rock finding activity, the children have painted their own rocks, we may use these to do more rock finding around kindy, or the children may take them home to hide when they are out and about on a walk with their family.
