23.01.2022 Have you given any thought to birthing your placenta? Yes, that’s right, after your baby is born it doesn’t just stop there the placenta needs to come out too. The placenta is an incredible organ and has been the lifeline of your baby for the duration of your pregnancy and it needs to be given a lot more acknowledgement and credit than just being discarded after birth. As you’ve probably guessed, I’m a big fan of the placenta and the umbilical cord. https://vickihobbs.com/birthing-your-placenta/
20.01.2022 Episode 19 Your Birth Plan Is More Important Than You Know Your birth plan is more powerful than you know. A birth plan is not a legal document, but it can be used in a court of law to show how the woman expected to be treated and supported by her care providers during her labour and birth and immediate postpartum period. The birth plan shows that a woman has done her research and understands normal, physiological birth, interventions, risks and benefits and consent. A birth plan will ensure that the wants and needs of the mother are the most important part of her care rather than the wants and needs of her care providers. https://anchor.fm//Episode-19---Your-Birth-Plan-Is-More-Im
19.01.2022 Having a previous caesarean brings a lot of anxiety, uncertainty and questions for women planning their next birth. Do you have a VBAC (vaginal birth after caesarean) or do you book in for a repeat caesarean? How safe are either of those options and what are the benefits and risks? What questions do you need to ask your care providers? What tools and techniques can you use to give yourself the best chance of a vaginal birth next time? How can you prepare for a positive experi...ence no matter how you birth? Find out the answers to these questions and so much more at my VBAC - Back to Basic Birthing workshop on Sunday 9th February 2020 in Maylands. You will receive all the latest statistics, evidence based information along with ways that your partner can feel confident in supporting you, providing for you and preparing you for any birth outcome. This workshop will give you a balanced overview on the facts, myths, risks and benefits of VBAC and repeat caesarean so that you feel confident about the choices you have and the decisions you make. VBAC is not about what anyone else is doing it is about you being educated and asking the right questions related to your circumstances, to get all the answers you need to make an informed choice for your birth. For more information about this workshop, please click on the event link or send me an email to [email protected] https://www.facebook.com/events/633301054077923/
18.01.2022 PLACES STILL AVAILABLE I am looking forward to sharing the Hypnobirthing Australia Positive Birth program with couples who want to have tools and techniques to help them through pregnancy, labour and birth. Preparing for birth is far more important than preparing for a wedding, holiday or footy grand final, but for some reason so many women think they will just "go with the flow" and then when things start to deviate from normal, birth becomes traumatic, which can affect the ...postpartum experience. You wouldn’t buy a house or a car or go on holiday without researching your options and investing time and money into getting the best for yourself. This training is about bringing a new human being into the world in a calm, gentle way and knowing that you have choices. It’s not just about having a healthy baby (that doesn’t even need to be said) we need a healthy mum as well to look after the baby! When you are educated on what to expect and to expect the unexpected you have so much more confidence to make decisions about your wants and needs. Your partner becomes a better support person to accommodate those wants and needs and I become your online support person, providing encouragement, evidence-based resources and pep talks if you need it. If you would like to join my next classes starting on Tuesday 7th January then email me [email protected] and start preparing for your amazing birthing journey. https://www.facebook.com/events/596108517803073/ See more
16.01.2022 I can personalise this for your VBAC as well.
14.01.2022 New article out by Evidence Based Birth - Physiological or Managed Third Stage (birthing the placenta) Using Synthetic Oxytocin "A small qualitative study found that pregnant people are often given little or no information from their care providers about their options for birthing the placenta (Reed et al. 2019). When care providers did offer information, it tended to reflect their own preferences or usual practice style rather than a true discussion of options. This is conc...erning, because pregnant people express diverse preferences for the third stagesome consider expectant management a safer process and an essential element of natural (physiologic) birth, while others consider active management to be the safe route that prevents complications and helps you avoid further interventions." https://evidencebasedbirth.com/evidence-on-pitocin-during-/

05.01.2022 Hazel Keedle released this VBAC paper today highlighting how Australian women were found to have a higher rate of VBAC success if they had continuity of care with a midwife. https://bmcpregnancychildbirth.biomedcentral.com//s12884-0
05.01.2022 JUNE WEEKEND FACE TO FACE CLASSES HYPNOBIRTHING AUSTRALIA Very excited to share that I will be back offering face to face classes in June and can’t wait to get stuck into sharing this with you. We will still be practising social distancing so because of that I can only offer 4 couples a place so book early to avoid missing out. My next Hypnobirthing Australia classes are being held over a full weekend on 27th & 28th June from 9am till 4pm. This program is designed to teach... you about the mind and body and what is happening during those contractions (surges), what your muscles are doing, why oxygen is really important during labour (just like a marathon runner), why fear can inhibit your labour and birth hormones, what natural methods of pain relief you can use (in addition to information about the medical pain relief available), your breathing techniques, stretches and techniques for mum to give baby more room to move into a better position, and preparing you for a positive birth experience whether that is a home birth, hospital birth, birthing centre, natural birth or caesarean. It is so important that you are prepared for your birth and studies show that the best way to do this is through independent childbirth classes and to prepare your mind, your body and your emotions to create that confidence and positive energy all around you - the perfect way for your baby to be born no matter how they are born. Don't miss out on being prepared and confident about your birth. Check out the event link below to find out more. Email me today at [email protected] for more information or registration form.
