24.01.2022 Warrnambool’s economic recovery post Covid19 will highly depend on the survival of our local businesses. Small businesses are the backbone of our economy. They are generous in giving back to our region through support for local projects, sporting clubs and fundraisers for schools and charities. We need to see people out supporting their local shops, butchers, accounting and legal firms, gardeners, tradespeople, retail and eateries. We need to back them like they’ve backed u...s for so long. Shopping locally creates collective prosperity as these businesses invest back locally as well, creating community sustainability for us all. It’s greener to shop locally as many businesses source locally produced goods. Local businesses offer personalised services and unique products, and that good old fashioned customer service. If you support local business, you will be directly contributing to saving local jobs and service providers you know and love. This will help them to survive and continue to serve their community as they have done for years. When you invest money in our local economy, you’re not just helping local business owners you are also helping yourself. What goes around comes around! See more
23.01.2022 Some of the ongoing issues that effect us all, are roads, rail and transport. We continue to hear a lot of negativity about our rail services however this proposal could be a game changer. If I am elected to Council I will be very interested to explore more about this exciting project plan that over time, would slash travel times to Melbourne and open up South West Victoria, through the Victorian Fast Regional Commuter Rail Alliance. It is very important that our new counc...il looks further into supporting this initiative and get behind the Stronger Together project, which could reshape Victoria’s settlement plan for the better, creating employment, state wide benefits and business opportunities and great tourism outcomes for Warrnambool. Both Federal and State governments would be a part of this and strong advocacy from local government is imperative, and would assist in Covid19 recovery. See more
23.01.2022 As Victoria begins to open up a bit more out of Covid19 lockdown, let’s get on the roadway to recovery and support our local economy. We need to get behind those businesses who have supported us over the years and get Warrnambool City back on track.
20.01.2022 Coming to your letterbox very soon!
20.01.2022 Time to be thinking about nominations for the 2021 Warrnambool Australia Day Awards. I am sure you know someone who would be very deserving of a nomination!! Do it !... (Tap on picture you see full ballot) From next Tuesday 6th October, the Victorian Electoral Commission will begin to mail out (to your postal address) the ballot papers for the upcoming council election. For a strong and truthful voice on our Council I would be honoured to have your support. VOTE 1 - VICKI JELLIE for Warrnambool City See more
14.01.2022 The people of the City of Warrnambool have spoken. They have taken the opportunity to make a change for a new positive future. A clear message for community minded, fair and collaborative representation has been delivered. Today our new council has been announced and I am so very privileged to have been chosen to be a part of that team. ...Continue reading
14.01.2022 Today I made my formal nomination to stand for Warrnambool City Council - very exciting! I want to re-assure everyone that I am a truly independent candidate, running and funding my own campaign. I do not have a campaign manager or advisor (except for my poor husband!) or campaign affiliation with any political party, ex mayors, ex councillors, business people, groups or individuals. I have given moral support and assistance to other candidates, and I have spoken to as many of the other candidates as I can, because no matter who is standing, we all share a love of our city and, if elected, we will need to work together. Candidates have reciprocated with support. I’m looking forward to the next few weeks of campaigning and working hard to earn your vote.
13.01.2022 Community gives people a sense of shared identity. Ours is a diverse group of amazing people with so many great skills, ideas, beliefs and values. Over the years we have always supported our own whether it was to bring a lifesaving helicopter service to our region or when we have been ravaged by devastating fires or floods which has affected so many people. It was no different when we set forth to bring improved cancer services to South West Victoria over 12 years ago, our ...community seized the task with gusto and as a result we opened the South West Regional Cancer Centre in July 2016. Since then the SWRCC has administered over 1000 radiotherapy treatments for our region’s patients, provided excellent chemotherapy services, together with other supportive care programs, all delivered in a state of the art facility that WE built together, from hard work and determination......and after we were told it would never happen. It was a privilege to be part of that team - our community team- that made the cancer centre dream a reality. WE built something that will benefit so many for generations to come. Never underestimate the power of community and what can be achieved! Let’s build a new diverse, fair and future focused council for us all...as a team....just as we have done before....for our community. And always remember....... Nothing is Impossible. 12.01.2022 The editorial and a well written letter to the editor in Saturday’s Standard both held messages that we all should take heed of. Standard editor Greg Best’s quote power is a privilege, not a right are true words and all those who will stand for the current council election must remember them. Former mayor Jack Daffy also conveyed his words of experience and wisdom through his letter to the editor. Councillors are elected to serve the people of the city and must act in the ...absolute best interests of those they serve. Always. No personal agenda’s or gain. This election is the opportunity for change for the City of Warrnambool and we should remember that when we all receive our ballot papers by mail from 6th October (to be completed and mailed back by 24th October 2020). Make your vote count! See more
11.01.2022 We have now come to the last days to speak up and make a change for the City of Warrnambool’s future. You need to fill out your ballot papers and get them in the post today or alternatively deliver them to the Warrnambool Electoral Office at 110 Liebig Street by close of business today (public holiday tomorrow Friday). Time for Change!
10.01.2022 Voting has now closed for the City of Warrnambool 2020 elections. It’s time to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported me through my campaign over the last couple of months. The encouragement from so many people has been overwhelming. ... I would like to acknowledge and congratulate all those who nominated for this election and wish them all the best. It’s a big step forward to put your hand up in the public arena - kudos to you all. So now we all sit back and await the outcome. By the 13th November we will know which 7 candidates will represent our community for the next 4 years. Let’s hope that we will elect a positive focused council who commit to the best interests of the people of Warrnambool. Thank you
10.01.2022 Congratulations Victoria - well done! Team work
07.01.2022 I would love to hear your thoughts and opinions on intersections, roundabouts and our city’s road infrastructure in general. It is always an ongoing controversial issue. I personally would like to see 2 new roundabouts at the intersections of Timor/Ryot and Koroit/Ryot streets near the hospital precinct as it is a busy and dangerous area. Also the Fitzroy/Botanic Road intersection crossing Raglan Parade, requires urgent attention. Tell me what you think!!
05.01.2022 I personally do not believe that local government is a place for party politics at all, but disappointingly it sometimes seems to be just that. It should definitely not be used as a stepping stone for councillors into State or Federal government. A councillor should be elected having only the best interests of the community in mind and not their own personal agendas. ... The success of a good council relies on each councillor committing to give their very best, ensuring positive outcomes for those who have voted them in as their voice and representative. Jacinda Ardern is definitely a politician, no doubt about that, but her ethos and concern for community is one of her great strengths. Let us hope that our newly elected council can heed this quote by Jacinda....and work together knowing how to respect the valuable different contributions of others, not be afraid to speak up, act responsibly and be a cohesive team for the good of the City of Warrnambool.
03.01.2022 Just out and about replacing some signs that have been seemingly removed. Michelle Obama is correct: When they go low, We go high
02.01.2022 It has been great to be getting opinions and ideas from the community about various things in Warrnambool. One particular topic that has come up a couple of times is the siting of the tourist information centre. It is currently situated in Merri Street at Flagstaff Hill. Remember when it used to be on the corner of Raglan Parade and Kepler Street where the Children’s Services Centre currently is? A lot of opinion I have heard is that it should be back on the highway somewhere to be more visible for anyone arriving in the city. Or should there just be more signage? What’s your opinion?
02.01.2022 If I am fortunate enough to be elected to Warrnambool City Council, here are just a few of the many things I am interested in supporting and advocating for: - Dealing with Covid19 recovery will need to prioritise a unified effort with council and us all to provide the immediate needs required and jointly negotiate the pathway to stimulate recovery for business, employment and our entire community. - A newly elected council needs to ensure that we live and spend within the cit...Continue reading
