25.01.2022 When you think about your wedding day, you might expect that the person you will spend the most time with will be your bridal party, parents & your new husband or wife, but in fact, you just might spend the most time of all with your photographer! More often than not, spending so much time with someone on a day that is full of so many raw emotions & excitement means you might make a real connection with them & I am so happy to say that this is a very common situation for me. ...Since Shona & Brett's wedding in 2017, I have been incredibly lucky to strike up a wonderful friendship with this lovely couple, although sometimes poor Shona has probably cursed our synchronised timing. When she fell pregnant with Levi, she excitedly messaged to book in for maternity & newborn photographs where I told her I may not be available - she was one of the first to guess that we too were expecting! I was able to photograph her baby bump (in our stables during a massive storm) but not Levi when he was first born as our babes were just 3 weeks apart! This year, Shona called to tell me her exciting news, that she was due with baby number 2 in early December and this time, she hoped to have maternity & newborn photographs with me... Until I told her that I was due about 2 weeks before her! This time, we are going to brave a newborn session, I'll have a newborn & a toddler as will she, so it might be a total fail or it might go perfectly. Either way, I cannot wait for our next to babies to be little buddies and I feel so honoured to have gained a beautiful friendship throughout the journeys we have shared together <3 How adorable is Levi, he just loves his Mummy's baby bump SO much, I have never seen anything like it <3
24.01.2022 Even though we have paddocks full of horses, it’s not too often that I get to photograph them like this. You might be surprised to learn that those whimsical horse photos you see on walls take a lot of patience & time, some days you can spend hours and get nothing while other days, like this one, you get one lucky little moment! I pulled up at Leahton Park, otherwise known as Texas Longhorn Tours while a storm was brewing to find Jasper & Deets looking absolutely picture perfect! I was just about to purchase a print of a horse for my newly renovated bedroom but now I’m thinking this may just have to go in its place!
22.01.2022 Tayla & Jordan are high school sweethearts, they met when they were just 15 & 16 years young. It took just a few very short weeks for the pair to fall in love and eight years on, that love has only grown from strength to strength. I actually did not realise they were high school sweethearts until the middle of their speeches but funnily enough, I recall thinking how much they reminded me of the other couples who had been together since they were just teenagers. There is such ...a sweet, comfortable & kind demeanour between these two and the reflection of that connection shines through ever so brightly when you meet their three year old daughter, Gabriella, who is just the most heavenly little doll. While the wedding day might have been about Tayla & Jordan, there is no doubt in anyone's mind that Gabriella is the absolute star of the show, the jewel in both family crowns. I cannot explain how much I loved watching both sets of Grandparents with their Granddaughter, she fluttered all day from her parents to both sets of Grandparents and I could felt like I learnt so much about two beautiful families, just from watching their interactions. I have been so quiet here, my sneak peaks are a little delayed but that only means I have been SO busy. September has been such a wonderful month filled with so many amazing weddings, it has felt incredible to be back doing what I love most. Tayla & Jordan were married at Greenmount Homestead last Saturday & I know they will have been eagerly awaiting these, as Tayla was perhaps one of my most excited brides of the year so far, as another who planned her wedding around my availability, I feel incredibly lucky to be blessed with so many couples who value what I do this much <3
22.01.2022 There's something incredibly special about sharing a pregnancy with a close friend, you have so many things to talk about, new experiences, fears, excitements & joys that can really only be understood by someone who is on the same path as you at that time. Shannon & I have been friends for about nine years (I hope that is right) and in 2018, we were just 2.5 weeks apart with our first babies who were both due in February and I felt so relieved to go through that brand new, un...chartered journey with her. Laine ended up arriving four weeks early while my little one arrived on his due date, and so they are about 6 weeks apart in age. When Shannon let me in on their little secret of being pregnant with a little brother or sister for Laine back in February, I laughed to myself thinking, how funny if we happened to end up pregnant at the same time again. Fast forward a few weeks, that funny thought became a reality and this time, we are due 6 weeks apart to the day! Once again, I have been so blessed to go on an identical adventure with Shannon, navigating pregnancy with toddlers, the comparisons to our first baby bumps and the reality of knowing what we are actually in for this time! Shannon is such a wonderful Mother to little Laine, I cannot quite remember life where Shannon was not a Mum now and it is clear that she is perfectly suited to raising kind, intelligent little people and I cannot wait to watch Laine become a doting big sister in just a few weeks. Nor can I wait to see how far these next two babies end up being! Maternity photographs, with toddlers & children who are about to become a sibling, have such a newfound, sentimental place in my heart as I now can really appreciate that these are the last of the days in a world as we know it, as a family of three who have just made it through the first few years of parenthood, it is hard to even imagine loving someone else as much as you love that first child but we know that our hearts will inevitably grow in an instant. Documenting those last special moments where that child has your undivided attention will be something I see in a completely new light just as I am sure photographs with an older sibling & a new baby will soon tug at the tear ducts <3
22.01.2022 The first time that I photographed Carina, Jakob & Tully, I had no idea that I was photographing the duo behind Rolling Portraits, a relatively new little Photography business in Townsville; it was one of those days where everything had gone wrong & I looked completely disheveled by the time 5pm rolled around. Luckily for me, first impressions clearly don't last because now that Tully is nearly one, they came back for some photographs to celebrate her birthday. I follow Carina on instagram & am pretty well obsessed with every video & photo that they share of the beautiful Tully, she is just the most scrumptious little darling & even more so in real life! Are they not the most gorgeous family you have ever seen?! I hardly think it is fair to all be so genetically blessed!
21.01.2022 It's a night for my beautiful friends tonight <3 For all of Shannon's pregnancy, I was so adamant that she was growing a baby boy and considering I have had an inkling both times she has fallen pregnant & both times that she was in labour, I thought I was definitely going to be right. However, it was little Minna in her Mama's belly all along & she could not be more perfect! With bright big eyes just like her big sister, Laine, already, Minna has all of us wrapped around her... little finger. Can you believe that I am so lucky to have so many amazing women in my life, to lean on through pregnancy, to share war stories, to laugh & cry with, to ask embarrassing questions & have playdates with?! Watching Shannon become a Mum to two gorgeous little ladies has bought so much happiness to my life, she was absolutely made to be their Mum & they really have no idea just how much she loves them <3 See more
20.01.2022 From the moment that Ty laid his eyes upon Meg, almost five years ago, he knew that she was the girl for him. There was no doubt in his mind that he had to have her. While I would love to tell you that it was love at first sight for them both, Meg was actually quite dubious about the tall, dark & handsome young man who was quite persistent in gaining her affection. Finally, after four long months, she thought she might give him a chance but never did she expect that she would... one day marry the very determined Ty! Patience is a virtue & not all love has to spark immediately, for some, perhaps for many it is the key to a wonderful marriage; love that burns long & slow is just as powerful. Their patience was also tested a little more in 2020, originally supposed to marry in April, they had to wait a few more months for their special day & at one point they even considered eloping with just their parents but the thought of not celebrating such an occasion with their extended family & close friends, who are all considered as family also, was far too devastating. I for one, am so relieved that Ty & Meg were able to celebrate their day surrounded by so many happy faces. If there is one thing I have noticed recently, it is how big guests smile, how many tears are shed, how many mobile phones are left in pockets; 2020 has reminded us to really embrace celebrations of love, to be in the moment, to hug extra tight when we can and to appreciate the freedom of being able to attend something as special as a wedding! And before any of you ask, no, this is not a wedding venue, but a private property near Warwick that Meg & Ty are lucky enough to have a very close connection to, it was the perfect setting for a classy, country wedding with a bridal party who loved to laugh and I spent so much of the day pinching myself that properties as beautiful as this actually exist!
20.01.2022 There is a lot to be said about Facebook, social media & the many negative repercussions it can have however if you're in a conversation with, you will instead often hear me singing its praises. It's a wonderful way to grow a business, to reconnect with long lost friends, to share special milestones and to do some good old time wasting but my favourite thing about social media are the love stories that all stem from a simple friend request. For Kristy & Eddie, that is exactly... how their romance began. Eddie added Kristy, Kristy posted on his wall, a private message was exchanged and the rest is history as you can see! I cannot tell you how many couples I have photographed, who have nearly identical versions of this story! Saturday was a beautiful, intimate affair, with the pair getting ready at home along with their bridal parties, families and gorgeous five month old son, Oliver. While it was one of the windiest days I have ever experienced, during the ceremony, there was hardly a breath which meant their guests were all able to clearly hear the lovely, hand written vows that Kristy & Eddie shared and it is safe to say, there were not too many dry eyes watching on <3 See more
18.01.2022 My last wedding of 2020 & my last wedding before I am a Mother of two! Chloe & Josh were undoubtedly a little nervous about whether or not I might actually make it to their wedding, considering that they planned their date around my availability, the last thing they probably expected was for me to be a few days shy of 37 weeks! Had it not been for a little white lie from Chloe's Father, we may not have even had a wedding to attend on Saturday... On a trip down to Chloe's fam...Continue reading
18.01.2022 Sometimes in life, you make a choice that, at the time seems so small & insignificant, you do not realise it is a choice that will change the entire course of your life. When Zoe was still a young girl, she and her parents had to make the tough decision between two boarding schools in Townsville. Being competitive & a keen athlete, the decision came down to the fact that Townsville Grammar School had a bigger swimming pool than their other options. Little did she know that th...e 50 metre swimming pool would be the reason that she met the love of her life. Zoe & Sam are high school sweethearts, going on almost ten years now and Zoe's words during her personal vows bought everyone to tears " You are my first love, my last & my always." Together, Sam & Zoe have conquered high school, they watched each other grow from teenagers into young adults, Zoe completed a university degree in veterinary science, purchased their first home together and now, in the blink of an eye it would seem, they are all grown up, calling each other husband & wife! Relationships that can stand the test of time from adolescence through to adulthood have a certain kind of strength, they have seen each other as carefree teens, experienced the butterflies that come with young love, they have supported each other through difficult chapters, grief, sorrow & loss and watched their own love blossom from nervously holding hands on the school oval to a confident, wise connection that seems as old as time. Best friends from the beginning, these two will undoubtedly have a marriage that will still be as strong in fifty years as it was on Friday as they said I Do and I can quite literally picture them now, when their skin is worn & their hair has turned to grey, at their own grandchild's wedding, holding hands & smiling at one another the same way you can see them smiling here <3 A love and a marriage for the ages.
17.01.2022 Just one more for tonight, because I really am a little behind on my sneak peaks and in fact, sometimes, I have been sending out whole galleries before I even get to share my favourites! I had not seen Lisa & Andy since their wedding a few years ago & as you can see, their little family has grown quite a bit! Lisa & her sisters were some of the very first people I ever photographed as a 'professional' photographer & I could not be more grateful for clients & families like the...irs, who have supported me from the very beginning! If only I could go back and re-shoot their wedding with the knowledge & skills I now possess as I am sure there would be a very noticeable difference!! Lisa & Andy certainly created three very beautiful little beings, but if you know Lisa & her sisters, you will know that they are some of the only girls in the world who can wear no more than some lip gloss and still look absolutely stunning! 16.01.2022 For nearly a year now, Elisha & I have been trying to make an afternoon of photographs happen! From last minute injuries & bad weather, it seemed like luck was against us for so long but last week, on the most beautiful afternoon I think we have ever had this late in the year, I finally got to meet the King Family! I was so surprised to learn, once Josh & Elisha arrived, that Josh used to catch the school bus that my Father-in-law drives to Charters Towers and even more embar...rassed to learn after a serious foot in mouth moment, that Josh was a professional boxer with titles. They were all chatting, after our shoot, about a boxing match in Townsville where I proceeded to mention that I would rather watch paint dry than go to a boxing match. I thought it odd that my husband was giving me such a strange look and after they left, he told me about Josh's illustrious career. You can imagine how ridiculous I felt! Sorry guys, I'm just not very tough & would probably curl up in a ball on the ground if someone even looked sideways at me! All that aside, it really was the most magical afternoon, the light could not have been more perfect and I fell in love with the little people that are Arlo & Macy! Have you ever seen a more stylish little family?!
15.01.2022 The year was 2010, Dustin had been given a contracting mustering job at Gereta Station, owned by The Hall Family near Cloncurry and he was pretty pleased to have scored such a good contract but when he caught up with his team of stockmen, all they could talk about was the young lady who gritted her teeth as she rode through the turpentine, flat out, loose rein, shouldering cleanskins through the rocky hills; the fact that she was a bloody good sort only impressed them more. D...Continue reading
14.01.2022 Before I tell the story of Chloe & Josh, I just had to start with some photographs from their Ceremony. It is often said that you should never work with children or animals, and it is probably the saying I dislike the most! Both bring so much happiness into the world, so full of innocence and very often oblivious to their surroundings & the fact that they are on show for all of the world to see, children & animals are always their true selves, no matter the occasion & for tha...t I am so very grateful. Chloe & Josh's four beloved dogs were such an integral part of the wedding, and given that Chloe is a vet, I cannot imagine she would be able to get married without some kind of fur friend by her side! The four dogs were walked down the aisle by each bridesmaid and while it was hard to steal your eyes away from a radiant bride & her dashing new husband, the pups definitely had everyone's attention! I may have gotten a little carried away and I probably should let Chloe & Josh know now that there could be more photos of their fur babies than anyone else at the ceremony! My favourite moment of the day by far was watching Chloe & Josh walk back up the aisle! Aren't you just so in love?! See more
14.01.2022 When your couple are 19 weeks pregnant with a baby boy sneaking in some baby bump photographs are a must! I promise this is the last time I will bombard you this evening, but as you can see, Nick & Maddie's wedding was of epic proportions, with so many spontaneous moments, I was actually worried I might run out of space on my memory cards! I also just had to include some photographs of the most fun loving, friendly bridal party <3 I just have to say once again how incredibly... honoured I feel to have been apart of this day, to have been welcomed whole heartedly into their lives as much more than just their photographer; Nick & Maddie, sorry but you are stuck with me as a friend for life! As many of you have commented on my earlier posts this evening, I was in my absolute element last Wednesday. Windmills, horses, crops, golden sunsets & unscripted love. What more could a girl from the country, with a camera in hand ask for?! See more
13.01.2022 Watching Dakota & Delainee grow from tiny babies into little ladies, right before my eyes & lens over the last few years has been an absolute joy. In fact, I have been photographing them since before they were even earthside! In 2018, on one of the hottest days in Australia on record, Danni & Brandon were married and while they did star in quite a few of the wedding photographs, they were really more interested in playing with their many little cousins. I can still recall feeling concerned that maybe we did not get enough with the girls but after my afternoon with this little Moxham family, those feelings have washed away, because there are countless little snippets of just how darling they are <3 Can we also just have a moment to appreciate the absolutely perfect styling, the colours, the rug & that hat piece <3
11.01.2022 Kristie & Callum were my very last session before we went into lockdown in March! It was such a bittersweet afternoon, not knowing when I might get to photograph anyone again, not knowing what the future might have held. Kristie was heavily pregnant & I can only imagine how scary life must have been for her, the idea of welcoming a new baby into such unchartered territory would have been so daunting. Little Kayden will always be able to say he was born in one of the most unfo...rgettable events in history! Of course, he won't remember any of it & by the time he is old enough to understand what Covid-19 was, it will be just a memory for all of us! Despite the chaotic world he was born into, he is perfectly oblivious to any of it and is just the cheekiest little dude you will ever meet. I guess it is quite fitting that he is one of the last babies I will photograph for 2020 and I am just so happy that I finally got to meet him! See more
10.01.2022 Oh how I love a tunnel of Sparkles, especially when your family are the ones showering you with twinkly love <3
09.01.2022 Soooo I did a thing... This morning, our little miniature dachshund, Cindi had her very own Maternity Session, complete with a Blossom Shoppe Flower Crown <3 And when those little puppies arrive in just a few days, you know they will be spending some time in the Newborn Studio ;)
09.01.2022 For many women, a wedding is a day one that is dreamt about from a young age and often it is a dream shared with your Mother, especially as she watches her baby girl blossom into a beautiful young lady, she sees her fall in love, perhaps helps to mend a broken heart or two and eventually, when she sees her daughter meet 'the one,' that wedding day that once seemed like a distant fantasy is suddenly a reality and days are consumed with floral choices, venue meetings and dress ...Continue reading
09.01.2022 If there were ever two people who were more at one with themselves when together, it is Trent & Allie. They spent the morning of their wedding getting ready just 50 metres apart, Allie in the beautiful home they had recently built while Trent was in the little shed house that they had lived in while their house was built from the ground up. It was not until their hands met at the ceremony that I finally saw them both truly relax, like two pieces of a puzzle. For the rest of t...he day, those hands seldom parted, swift kisses were shared more times than you could possibly count and the sparkle in Allie's eye shone brighter each time she looked toward her new husband. It was such a beautiful way to officially begin my very belated wedding season, I was constantly reminded of why I love photographing weddings so much. Trent & Allie had no shortage of hurdles in making it to this day, having postponed from a Saturday in June earlier in the year. Allie's brother, who was going to be apart of her bridal party, was unable to make the wedding due to the lockdown in Melbourne however he was still a huge part of the wedding as it was livestreamed to him throughout the proceedings & a speech made via zoom made me realise that even in a global pandemic, there are so many ways couples can still celebrate their day and while it may not be exactly the way they had dreamed it would be, when it is all said & done, they wouldn't have it any other way. What stories the wedded couples of 2020 will have to tell their grandchildren some day!
08.01.2022 Whenever a fellow photographer even enquires about booking a shoot with me, I always have to pinch myself a little. It very often feels like they are crazy, of all the people they could choose, why would they even consider me, especially given that these photographers are often so crazy talented, I find myself wishing I could achieve certain looks & styles that they offer! When Rachelle booked in with me in May, I definitely had a pinch me moment. She is the superbly talented..., workaholic behind Rachelle Angela Photography from the Atherton Tablelands & photographing her with husband Patric was a huge privilege! They drove down, with their three fur babies who I have a feeling, might be some of the most loved little dogs in the nation! Rachelle & Patric have been married for seven years now and the spark between them would rival any young love, I actually don't think my husband & I have ever been as loving in our life as this pair was in just an hour! I will probably never understand how other photographers choose me and I will probably never be as nervous as I am whenever I deliver their galleries but I will always be so grateful that they do put their trust in me <3 See more
08.01.2022 Nicola & Reece may have met in the way that so many millennials these days do, through a mutual friend and a little messaging on social media, however I have a feeling that life would have found a way to bring them together regardless of the circumstances. Both of their families are very proud to call The Burdekin home, so it was surprising that in such a small town, where everyone knows one another, that their paths had not crossed before. Little did they know, they actually... had, but it was before both were even born. Their Mothers had been in the same class at school & they have even found photographs of them together. Sadly, Nicola never got to meet Reece's Mum, Kim, as she passed away just before the pair started dating. There were so many beautiful things said about her throughout their wedding and it was clear that while she was not present in person, she was absolutely there in spirit with almost every person in the room wiping tears from their eyes any time her name was spoken. What stood out to me most was that quite a few guests mentioned the similarities between Nicola and Kim and so I can only imagine how special that must be for both Reece & Nicola; for Reece, to have found someone that will always remind him of the first woman he loved and for Nicola, to know that she shares qualities with a person who was so cherished and respected. As you might have realised by now, last week was possibly one of the biggest weeks in my photography career so far, four weddings for the week, one in Warwick, one in Cloncurry and two in Townsville. At 31 weeks pregnant, with a toddler at home, I am going to be honest, it was tough on my feet & I definitely enjoyed my sleep last night, but finishing such a big week with Nicola & Reece's wedding could not have been a more perfect ending. From the incredible venue, gorgeous blooms & that heavenly gown to the place setting especially for me at a table and the courageously fun atmosphere at the reception, it really was a fantastic wedding that reminded me constantly why it is that I love weddings so much. Nicola & Reece, along with both of their families, are the kind of people who you just want to be around, they are friendly, full of joy & laughter and they just make you smile the more you get to know them. I have been bursting at the seams (quite literally) to share this day with you all, narrowing down favourites has been the biggest task so I apologise for the overload!! There was just so much to love about The Howies & the big love they share <3
08.01.2022 Katie & Elliott were supposed to be jetsetting off to Canada in just a few short weeks where they had planned on marrying at Lake Louise. What an absolute dream, am I right?! Instead, they are of course staying put for now & postponing that dream for another year but they did manage to squeeze in on a last minute cancellation with me after quite a few attempts at booking a session. It was no Lake Louise I am afraid, but give a girl a Spell dress, some curls, a man who lights ...up everytime he looks at you and a little winter sunshine, and you get something that might just be as beautiful <3 They were both so nervous about the session, as neither had been photographed professionally before however they honestly could not have been more perfect in my eyes. I hardly had to mention a thing, they laughed, twirled & enjoyed each other's company for the most part, almost as if I was not there and I was so pleased to get a little message later that evening when they told me how at ease they felt; the magic words all photographers want to hear!
08.01.2022 This beautiful Mama-to-be is none other than the very talented lady behind Kacey Maree Photography! I am starting to lose count of how many times I have photographed Kacey & her husband Arlen. Every single time, we have had cloudy skies of some sort; even on their wedding day, sunset was blocked by a wisp of clouds on the horizon. So last week, when I realised it was going to be a perfectly sunny afternoon, I could not have been happier & I bet Kacey was feeling the same. I k...now many photographers love a cloudy day, that it can make shooting a little easier but personally, I just love my sun! As I have said before, being asked to photograph another photographer is a huge honour and sometimes I even get a little nervous that I may not live up to the expectation, but with Kacey & Arlen, there are no nerves! I just feel so grateful that they keep coming back! This pregnancy has not been the smoothest of sailing for them, with a few scares along the way, but now, finally in the third trimester, you can see a weight has been lifted from their shoulders because before they know it, their sweet little boy will be in their arms! I have loved watching these two grow as a couple, their marriage is a beautiful one & they are just as in love now as they were on their wedding day, four years ago. I know that it won't be long until they see each other with a whole new level of admiration, respect & newfound love that all new parents experience . There really is nothing like watching your partner dote over your new baby and I have no doubt that Kacey & Arlen will be the most adoring parents! I'll be here, patiently waiting until I can photograph them as a trio! That contagious big smile that Kacey wears so beautifully will be something else <3 See more
08.01.2022 Nina & Will met on the first day of Grade 8 at Pimlico High School and I think it may have been written in the stars (or on the whiteboard) from that very first day. Will was constantly finding himself in trouble with the teacher for chatting & distracting himself with the pretty brown haired girl behind him. It was not until they graduated that they officially became a couple, but it came as no surprise to many of their friends and by Christmas, just a month after graduation..., the pair were inseparable. Starting a relationship with a wonderful friendship is one of the many secrets to a long & lasting lifetime together! Plus, any girl that watches a teenage boy go through adolescence & still finds herself in love with that boy means he must really be the one, right?! It has now been almost ten years since that fateful December when two teenagers embarked on not one, but two wonderful adventures; their relationship & their adult life. In that time, they have supported each other through university, travel & careers, with Nina working as a Clinical Nurse in the Emergency Department while Will is a Physiotherapist at the very same hospital. The week before their wedding, just to add to a little of the wedding chaos, which included not one but two venue changes thanks to the pandemic that shall not be named, they also signed the contract on a new home together. 2020. What a year for Nina & Will! One that will surely be remembered by many with sorrow but for these two lovebirds, I think it will go down in history as one of their greatest years of all <3 See more
08.01.2022 Settle in folks. You're in for a big one tonight! Last Wednesday, I had the absolute honour of photographing Nick & Maddie's wedding, set just outside of Warwick on their own little piece of land, under a beautiful big old tree, beside a paddock of oats that have been a labour of love for Nick. Without a shadow of a doubt, I can safely say that of all the weddings I have been to, which is very close to 200, I have never witnessed such emotion, joy, pride, kindness or love as ...Continue reading
07.01.2022 Allllll the Yellowstone vibes!! Am I right?! It may be the fact that we had just caught up on our weekly episode of Yellowstone but the whole time I was photographing these two lovebirds, I could not help but feel like we should have been in Montana & not Mingela! Luckily for me, some afternoons it can be just as pretty here and this was one of those afternoons. Meryn & Dylan made a weekend getaway of their engagement shoot, spending some time in Charters Towers and trying o...ut all of the fine dining options they have to offer before coming out to me. I think we spent more time chatting about all the things we had in common rather than actually taking photos; from our taste in clothing & horses to how similar my Mum & Meryn's Mum are when it comes to wedding planning, poor Dylan could hardly get a word in. I am so darn excited for their wedding next year, it feels more like I have two old friends booked in than two people I just met, they are just the most genuine pair, salt of the earth kind of people. The kind of people that make you feel so at home and ever since they left, I have been burning the candle they gifted to me & thinking about how much I love every single one of these little memories we made together! Don't they just make you feel all kinds of warm & bubbly?! See more
07.01.2022 As the end of the year draws nearer, the number of beautiful baby bumps gracing the front of my camera increases, as it always seems to around September & October! I have been bombarding you with countless weddings of the last two weeks, which means I have been hoarding quite a few sessions like this one with Nadyne & Shane! This gorgeous dress has been in my client wardrobe since the beginning of the year & no matter how many times I try it on, I just cannot pull it off, but it was absolutely made for Nadyne! The countdown is on for these two, they can now say that they are having a baby next month and that also means I can too!! I am so excited for what October has in store, so many gorgeous Mamas, babies & more weddings to share with you all!!
07.01.2022 I am beginning to think that babies have some kind of photoshoot radar... So many Mums arrive feeling a little frazzled because their usually sleepy, placid newborn suddenly had a terrible night or has cried all night. When Amanda & Rhys arrived, little Benjamin was quite grumpy with us but you would never know looking at these! He fits right into their little family so perfectly, almost like the missing puzzle piece that completely connects them and I just adore how at peace both Rhys & Amanda look when they snuggle Benjamin! Just a little side note, if you don't hear from me over the next week or so, I am about to begin the biggest week of the year with 4 weddings, all across the state from Warwick to Cloncurry & back to Townsville all in 7 days! So for now I will leave you with this baby sweetness <3
05.01.2022 First looks are quite a rareity for me, as I understand for many, myself included, there is something about walking down the aisle & seeing the person you are about to marry but for some, that moment is one they want all to themselves. To cry, laugh, cuddle, whisper & enjoy some precious time together without 100 pairs of eyes watching on. I could not imagine Nick & Maddie not having a first look, whoever invented this idea long ago, must have made it with these two in mind! After they soaked each other up, their large bridal party joined them for a few drinks to settle their nerves before entering the ceremony together, each bridesmaid partnered with a groomsman while Nick led Maddie to the ceremony on her horse before walking down the aisle arm in arm. It was completely their day, done their way & it was absolutely perfect.
04.01.2022 I have had Shae & Connor in front of my camera so many times over the last few years & in fact, you could say that their first photoshoot together is what really bought Shae & I to be such wonderful friends. It was not until after this shoot, that we realised it was the first time they had ever had sunshine, usually the days have been overcast or even raining and I would like to think that Hallie might have had something to do with this particularly sunny afternoon as she rea...lly is the light in their lives and their rainbow after the storm. I always knew that Shae would be an incredible Mother, she's been a nurturing old soul for as long as I can remember, the Aunty (and non-blood related Aunty) that spoils all of the children in her life with generous gifts & endless love. The most pleasant surprise that came with the arrival of Hallie in January, was just how perfectly Fatherhood suits Connor, he has been a fantastic Father from day one. The fierce love he shares for his two girls as well as the admiration & respect he has for Shae as a Mother makes my heart swell whenever I have the privilege of witnessing it. I am already looking forward to having Hallie grace my screen again next year when she turns one - not sure if Shae & Connor had even planned on first birthday photos, but too bad for them ;) See more
03.01.2022 I have been fortunate enough to be apart of quite a good handful of milestones in the lives of many Bell Family members. Both Sonny & Hendrix were still in their Mama's bellies when I first started photographing them, and many of you would recognise Randi from a few of my styled bridal shoots! We finally managed to secure an afternoon where the entire crew were free, which is no easy task in a big & busy family! I think we all need to take a moment to appreciate just how darn... perfect their styling is and especially when you consider that they admitted to just casually throwing it all together! All of the extended family sessions I have been photographing lately make me realise just how badly I need to do this with our two sides of the family, Grandparents, siblings, Aunties, Uncles & cousins are such a vital part in the village it takes to raise a child <3 See more
03.01.2022 My best friend is absolute sunshine <3 Over the years, many of you might have seen Morgan in a handful of my styled shoots or know her as the extremely talented hands behind Immokalee Designs, as the bubbly owner of MMOKA boutique in Bowen and also as my tag along assistant at some weddings & shoots! It might be hard to believe but in all that time, we have never actually taken any photographs of Morgan, purely for Morgan, it has always been business related. Now, my incredi...ble friend is expecting a baby girl in late December with her fiancé, Jack, who I am still surprised agreed to be in a handful of these. Morgan & I have been the closest of friends for fifteen years, since we met at boarding school and we have been through everything together. During that time, our friendship has survived great distances, with us barely going more than two days without a conversation of some sort, she is, as Grey's Anatomy would put it 'my person.' I have watched Morgan grow from an awkward teenager with too much eyeliner to the delightful, friendly & wholesome woman that she is now, but of course, no life is perfect & Morgan has had her fair share of setbacks, shattered dreams and broken hearts. When she met Jack & told me that they had bought a house in Bowen & were moving to the little beach town, I was skeptical and concerned but thankfully, I had no need to be. It seems as though Bowen was almost like coming home for Morgan, it is where she found happiness, peace, contentment, support & success both romantically & professionally. Morgan has always loved the water, so it really could not have been more perfect that her little house by the beach, where she can look out of her sewing room & onto the ocean, where the warm salty sea breeze floats through the door of her coastal, bohemian boutique in the main street of town is the place where life has finally found perfect rhythm for her. I could not imagine a more perfect location for Jack & Morgan to begin the most exciting journey that life will ever hand them and can already picture their baby girl growing up with the best of both worlds, bum in the sand some days & in a saddle on Jack's family property outside of town on other days! Of course, there was no doubt that these photographs had to be taken just a couple of hundred metres from their house, in the pristine waters that Bowen is so lucky to have! These feel like such a true reflection of Jack & Morgan, of their connection and of the person Morgan is. A smile that is brighter than the sun, to know Morgan is to know a friend, instantly. I feel so blessed to be sharing these special little moments with you all & even more blessed to be sharing a pregnancy & soon, motherhood, with my best friend!
02.01.2022 Alright. If editing these photographs didn't make me go into labour, then I am pretty sure, nothing will! I cannot tell you how many times I teared up as I sifted through Tegan & Luke's photographs with Vance and brand new baby Alby! Last September I was lucky enough to document their absolutely, next level wedding where I felt like family thanks to the number of guests that I had already photographed before! I am proud to call myself something of the family photographer for... the Daly family, as I really have been apart of so many milestones in Tegan & all of her siblings lives! Watching the entire clan grow over the years has been such a privilege & I always look forward to any opportunity I get to have them in front of the camera! Off memory, when I first met Tegan's sister Bec, there was just one grandchild & now there are 9! I sure do hope that number is right anyway! You may have noticed that this year, my approach to newborn photography has been a lot more natural, with the restrictions covid bought about, I was unable to shoot in my studio for so long and then I found that I had really fallen in love with this raw, simple & somewhat less stressful style! Afternoon family sessions with a new baby are some of my absolute favourite & I am very excited to share that next year, I will be offering another fresh option for newborn photography, an option that I have not seen too much of so far and one that I cannot wait to show off with the help of my own new baby & some friend's babies over the coming months. Be sure to keep your eyes out in late January or early February for some more information on those! Enough of my ramblings, it is well & truly time to fall in love with the Davies Family. I am obsessed with each & every one of these, in fact, I am quite jealous and hope I am able to get some moments like this on film for myself one day soon!
01.01.2022 I'll let you in on a little secret... I don't usually love photographs taken between November - February. Not because it is hot but because the light in North Queensland is SO harsh & bright, it is often almost dark before it gets really good. This month has really taken me by surprise, the afternoons are still so beautiful & the light is still so delicious, I am hoping it stays like this for the rest of summer! My beautiful friend Nicole has been trying to find a day for so...me fresh pictures with her babies, who aren't really babies compared to when I first met them, for almost a year now! I've said it once, I will say it again, there really is nothing like shooting for your friends, the connection that I feel to the moments is indescribable. I first met Nicole many years ago, when Lara was just a chubby baby (one of the cutest babies I have ever seen) and then when little Lincoln arrived, I was lucky enough to meet them once again. I can recall from our very first meeting, how at ease I felt with Nicole, how she felt like an old friend and I am so grateful that she, along with some of her friends, chose me to be their photographer because it sparked a random group chat one evening that led to lunches, dinners, birthday parties & a wonderful new circle of friends who really supported me through my own journey into Motherhood! What a job I have! Can you really even call it a job?! See more
01.01.2022 Once a couple are married, suddenly the reasons & opportunities for photographs as a couple seem to disappear, some couples go on to have children & they become the focus and then for those that do not have babies right away, for many varied reasons, tend to miss out. Madeline & Will were married in June 2018 and since then, Madeline has started her own little photography venture and it reminded her that they really did not have anything but wedding photographs together! When... I had a last minute cancellation last weekend, she wasted no time in booking in! You could have fooled anyone into thinking these two are teenagers, their love is so fun, fresh & raw, the kind that gives you butterflies. I think it is so important for couples of all ages, of all life choices to be documented together. Regardless of whether you have children or not, as a couple you change and as individuals you change - it should all be remembered, not just the big occasions, but the little ones, the years that might seem insignificant very often end up being the ones that you remember with the biggest smile of all. Also. Let's just take a moment to appreciate that light, these smiles and Madeline's incredibly beautiful hair <3
