24.01.2022 #NominateNow #AusoftheYear

24.01.2022 Due to Covid constraints this year there will not be any events for Pregnancy and Infant Loss Day on October 15th for which I usually make keepsakes to be given... as gifts. I have made a limited number of some of my Too Beautiful For Earth keepsakes to be given as gifts. I will post them out but obviously the numbers are limited. Please message me with your name and address and I will get them out to you. Only 1 request per family please. Unfortunately I can only post within Australia. See more

24.01.2022 24 quilts completed and ready to be delivered to the Warrawee Women's shelter at the and of next week. There is an assortment of quilts to cater for women and c...hildren of all ages. Battling the wind we had a pop up quilt show on our fence this morning but had to do it in two sets. The first set were the smaller quilts measuring approximately 115 cm ( 45 inches) square and are mainly for children. The second set are 135 cm (53 inches) square. The photo of the larger quilts is shot in panorama mode to get all the quilts in. See more

23.01.2022 When I started Bridie's Blossoms at the end of 2013 a lovely friend of my sister called Vaira generously donated her wedding dress to be made into gowns. Also o...n the dress was a trim of maribou feathers and in each of the layettes and early pregnancy loss packages that have been delivered to families of angel babies since then a piece of that feather trim has been included in the little keepsake glass vial. 23.01.2022 Four years ago Fiona and her husband lost their beloved and longed for twins, Hugh and Ripley. The remembrance sets I was honoured to make for their beautiful ...angels were among some of the first which I made. This morning Fiona bravely spoke to Leon Compton on ABC Hobart Mornings about the importance of the federal government moving ahead with legislation in parliament to give parents of stillborn babies access to the same unpaid parental leave entitlements as other families. This legislation has come about due to the recommendations of the Senate Select Committee on Stillbirth Research and Education in 2018. Take a few moments to listen to Fiona and I think you will agree with me that she did a wonderful job. https://www.abc.net.au//progr/mornings/stillbirth/12684420

22.01.2022 I received a request yesterday afternoon from a grandmother for a remembrance package to honour angel baby Poppie who gained her angel wings only three days ago.... I can only imagine the heartbreak and devastation this brave family are feeling as it was back in October of last year that Poppie's older twin sisters Elsie and Elouisa also gained their angel wings. Our thoughts are with Poppie's family at this unimaginable time of grief. I hope that this package which I posted interstate in Poppie's memory will bring some comfort and solace. See more

21.01.2022 Make sure you visit BFC Creations for their wonderful 17th Anniversary give away designs. Two designs are released every few days so make sure to check back as the previous ones are put up for sale. https://bfc-creations.com/newarrivals/ For many years I made a BOM with their anniversary designs so you may be able to use one of those layouts to make these designs into a quilt similar to those. They are under the BOM tab on my blog. http://vickisfabriccreations.blogspot.com/p/free-online-cla

Consequently once again... there will be some available for those who would like them . They will not be ready for a couple of weeks . 20.01.2022 Another set of I Existed I Mattered Early Pregnancy Loss keepsake packages just completed for the Mersey Community Hospital on the NW Coast. These packages are... given to mothers who experience early miscarriages and are not admitted to hospital. The I Existed I Mattered packages are so named because to their mothers these tiny souls did in fact exist and they mattered. Their short lives are validated. If you know of a medical practice in Tasmania who would like to have these to gift to families who experience an early pregnancy loss please pass on my details to them.

20.01.2022 All set up for my online presentation to the Devonport City Council employees tomorrow morning as part of Women's Health Week. https://www.womenshealthweek.com.au/ I don't know how I will go as this is a first for me , I think show and tell may be problematic but we will get there.

19.01.2022 Last year I was gifted some beautiful fabrics and lace by the family of a 92 year old lady who had gone into care. This lovely lady gave birth to her own angel ...baby, a little girl, many years ago. Heartbreakingly she did not get to see or hold her little girl. This is a dress I have made from some that beautiful fabric and it is close to be 100 years old as her family owned Kenworthy's drapery store in Latrobe. Unfortunately the photo does not do this beautiful lace justice. I hope the family of an angel baby will treasure this dress and the history of the lace as they farewell their little one. See more

19.01.2022 As 2020 comes to an end it is a fitting time to again reflect on what Bridie’s Blossoms and Blessings has achieved during the past year and what a year it has b...een in more ways than one. At the end of February, it will 7 years since the first Bridie’s Blossoms layette packages for the parents of angel babies were made and distributed to our Tasmanian hospitals. The Bridie’s Blossoms program was started at the end of 2013 as a legacy to Bridie Connelly who was born sleeping on April 9th, 2013. Since then over 600 layette packages have been delivered to the birthing hospitals in Tasmania as well as special request packages posted around Australia. Additionally, I have supplied numerous outfit only packages to our hospitals and funeral homes in the state. 35 lace bags in which families may carry the tiny wooden coffin boxes with dignity and respect have also been supplied to the LGH and RHH. 71 personalized quiltlet remembrance keepsake packages have been delivered to families of angel babies not only in Tasmania but also interstate and overseas during this year alone. It is my aim that the keepsake items provide solace and hope to parents experiencing the grief and heartache of a lost life no matter how early or late in gestation or how long ago. In October of 2017, I supplied the first of our I Existed I Mattered early miscarriage keepsake packages to our hospitals and some private obstetricians. Over 270 of these have now been distributed with the hope that everyone who experiences an early miscarriage and is not admitted to hospital will have access to one of these packages in the future. In April, of 2018 the first bags to be gifted to women undergoing treatment for gynaecological cancers in Tasmania were made. To date, 160 of these bags and 170 separate teddy bear/key ring sets have been delivered for distribution to ladies. This project of mine is very close to my heart and I hope these items will go some way to empowering women with gynaecological cancers on their road to recovery. The Flickering Memories group in Burnie add the personal care package items which are included in the bags. It would be wonderful if the time came when there was not a need for these any longer. Over 200 quilts have now also been delivered to Warrawee, the local women's shelter and I thank the many people who have kindly donated fabric etc to make these quilts. The quilts are designed to cater for a wide age range of women and children. The implementation of the fidget quilt program at the end of June 2018 has been a runaway success with 322 quilts being delivered. The fidget quilts are primarily gifted to people with dementia to help alleviate some of the stress and anxiety when they are in emergency and when admitted to the hospital. However, they can be used by anyone who finds themselves in a stressful situation as the different textures and sensory experiences provide a calming experience. The quilts are given to patients to keep and they can take them with them when they leave hospital. The majority of the quilts have been delivered to the Launceston General Hospital but also to other hospitals, aged care facilities, dementia services, care homes and schools around the state. Many very generous people have donated their wedding gowns for layette and keepsake package and numerous fabrics and items to be included on the fidget quilts. Your contribution is priceless. To the wonderful people who have made donations of gift cards etc. I cannot thank you enough. To the small but hardworking group of ladies, namely Elizabeth and Bev, who have generously knitted and crocheted booties and small blankets to be incorporated into the layette packages, many many thanks as these items are treasured by families. Many thanks to the wonderful midwives who do such wonderful work. Too often we do not take the time to stop and reflect on how delivering an angel baby and supporting heartbroken parents takes its toll on them. Many thanks also to family and friends who go out of their way to deliver packages to hospitals for us when we are not able to do so. Finally thank you to each person who has liked and shared the Bridie’s Blossoms posts and story. It is so important that the heartbreak that accompanies stillbirth and miscarriage is recognized in the wider community.

19.01.2022 10 bags completed this afternoon for women in Tasmania undergoing treatment for gynaecological cancer. When I saw this gorgeous leopard print fabric online I th...ought it would look stunning made up into the bags and I think I was right in that assumption! It takes me approximately 2 days to make 3 bags with the accompanying little teddy bear, key ring, tissue holder etc. The Bags of Hope is an initiative that I, along with Sue Radford and Virginia Stevens of the Flickering Memories High Tea Fundraising event started back in April of 2018 and this set of bags makes 160 that we have collaborated on to provide to women in Tasmania during that time. I was diagnosed with a gynaecological cancer in June of 2016 and consequently this part of my Bridie’s Blossoms project is very dear to my heart. The bags will be delivered to Sue Radford during this coming week and she will fill them with care items before passing them along to Adele Hudson the Statewide Clinical Nurse Consultant for the Gynaecological Oncology Service in Tasmania. 19.01.2022 20 fidget quilts completed during the week to be delivered to the LGH tomorrow. Of the 305 fidget quilts which I have completed over the last two years, 185 of... them have been delivered to the LGH. I have another handful of quilts not allocated so please contact me if you know of a facility or individual who may like one. They will however, need to be collected from me in Devonport or I may be able to deliver them to Hobart in a couple of weeks. See more

18.01.2022 I am on the lookout for old film canisters and colourful children's play cotton reels. I use them on the fidget quilts and I have just about exhausted my supply... of film canisters. I drill a hole in the top and bottom and thread them onto some cord with a bead inside. They are a very popular part of my fidget quilts. I would be very grateful for any donations of these items you may have . See more

18.01.2022 This morning I had the honour of doing a virtual presentation online to employees of the Devonport City Council as part of Womens Health Week . 17.01.2022 A little over 2 weeks ago I was contacted by a lovely lady in Victoria who was devastated that in these challenging times she was not able to offer in person su...pport to angel baby Scarlett's mother. I made a remembrance package and posted it to Victoria. Today I received a heartfelt message form Scarlett's mother after her supportive friend was able to get the package to her. Our thoughts are with Scarlett's family at this heartbreaking time. See more

17.01.2022 I have a big favour to ask. My sister Colleen Hennessy is a lower primary teacher at Sorell Primary School. Please vote for her and her class. You can vote as many times as you like. I would love for her and her class to win as she always goes out of her way to do the best for her students. Please share. https://www.7hofm.com.au/apple-for-the-teacher/vote

16.01.2022 The chaos that accompanies making fidget quilts for the LGH . I am too ashamed to show you the floor .

15.01.2022 In my talk to the Devonport City Council yesterday during Women's Health Week I shared with them the data around participation rates in the three national cance...r testing programs that we have in Australia, namely breast, cervical and bowel cancer screening. In spite of awareness campaigns some of the statistics are still quite concerning among those eligible to participate in these programs. Breast Cancer Screening Australia 55% Tasmania 60.1% Devonport 48.2% Cervical Cancer Screening Australia 53.7% Tasmania 57.3% Devonport 51.5% Bowel Cancer Screening Australia 42.4% Tasmania 46.5% Devonport 48.2% Talk to your GP and get tested. Early detection and diagnosis is the key to a successful outcome. In a deja vu moment my husband got a letter in the mail yesterday to say that his bowel cancer testing kit is on its way. Don't be afraid to poke your poo. https://www.aihw.gov.au//national-cancer-/contents/summary

13.01.2022 Remembrance packages are provided as gifts to families of angel babies and are posted locally interstate and overseas. Tonight I am sharing the remembrance packages that have been given to families in 2020 to date. There are still more remembrance sets for angels whose families did not wish to share photographs of the finished sets. #angelbabies #angelbaby #remembrancepackage #Stillbirth #IExistedIMattered #PregnancyandInfantLoss #Miscarriage #Stillbirth See more
