Emergency services are currently at...tending to a huge number of incidents and accidents, with power lines and trees across roads and widespread power outages. This Flood Watch is being issued for Snowy, Bemm, Cann and Genoa Rivers. - Minor flooding may develop in far East Gippsland catchments from Sunday evening. - A low pressure system has developed off the south coast of NSW. This low is expected to move slowly eastwards during Sunday. - In the 24 hours to 9 am Sunday, rainfall totals between 10-45 mm were recorded in the Flood Watch area. - Catchments in East Gippsland are relatively wet from rainfall over the last couple of weeks. - Rainfall totals of 20-40 mm are forecast for Gippsland for Sunday, with isolated higher totals between 60-70 mm in the far east. - Strong river rises are occurring in the Flood Watch area as a result of the observed rainfall. From this week, you might see us back out training in small groups to ensure we have the essential skills and capability required to respond. Activities you will see our members in the community undertaking training include: Crew Member Training Storm and Water Damage Flood Focused Skills Rescue Boat Operations Road Crash Rescue Technical Rescue Land Based Swift Water Rescue & Rope Rescue Fitness Tests including Pack Hike & Swim Tests Emergency services are permitted to undertake this training, as endorsed by the Victorian Chief Health Officer. Powered by twin outboard motors, and equipped with digital and analogue radios, GPS and a range of rescue equipment, it stands ready to respond to any requests for assistance across Gippsland.... VICSES Rescue Boat operations in flood incidents may include the following activities: Evacuation or relocation of people of persons isolated by flood water, Medical Response, Resupply, Property Protection, Relief of flooded communities, Reconnaissance of flooded area, Water depth/height measurement and recording VICSES Rescue Boats also support other agencies including Victoria Water Police, when requested. Members can undertake a variety of training in flood boat operations as a Deckhand, Crewperson or Coxswain. If you see us out in Orange on a Wednesday night, know that we're making sure our unit is ready to respond to any events that come up in our area. Our members can be see in these images practicing stabilization of a 4x4 vehicle using tools called 'Stab-fasts', and removing glass windows to gain access to a patient, or allow us to safely remove doors without sending glass everywhere inside the car. Outside of the SES, Matt is a project manager for an irrigation water authority, and has a young family. The SES offers the flexibility to be involved, even around work and other commitments.
