17.01.2022 Yesterday afternoon, a cold front passed over the South West, bringing damaging winds, hail and rain. Wind gusts over 100 km/h were recorded at Cape Otway. Since then, VICSES has received over 2,900 requests for assistance with a large number of jobs still active, mostly in Melbournes east. Tragically, we also learnt that three people lost their lives as a result of this storm, and we send out deepest co...ndolences to the victims families and friends. In the South West, volunteers from 18 units responded to over 230 requests for assistance, mostly relating to trees over roads and damage to property. SES Bellarine Unit, SES Colac Unit & SES Torquay Unit were our busiest units with crews working well in to the night and morning. We would like to thank all of our members for their hard work and commitment, and a special thanks to members who travelled to their neighbouring areas to assist. We would also like to thank a number of local CFA brigades who provided a huge amount of assistance, ensuring we could respond to community needs as soon as possible. #weworkasone Take care everyone

13.01.2022 VICSES is the Control Agency for Storm, but when big events happen, were happy to know that we can rely on our emergency services friends and colleagues to lend a helping hand. When the Geelong area was hit with a significant storm event in the early hours of Wednesday morning, VICSES South Barwon Unit received 190 requests for assistance, mostly relating to damaged property. Along with the support of several additional VICSES crews from around the state, we also had signif...icant assistance from MFB (Melbourne Metropolitan Fire Brigade) and CFA (Country Fire Authority) to assist with the damage. MFB crews were tasked with intelligence gathering, deploying their drone and providing important information about the severity of damage to properties. CFA deployed skilled working at heights firefighters who joined forces with VICSES crews, working together to provide temporary repair to damaged roofs. With the efforts of these crews, all of the requests for assistance have now been responded to. We really couldnt achieve what we did without this assistance, and therefore we would like to send a HUGE thanks to everyone involved. #weworkasone CFA South West SES South Barwon Unit
