25.01.2022 At the Whalers with some of our fellow St Ayles Skiff enthusiasts from Tasmania and South Australia. Looking forward to an exciting regatta tomorrow. The women from Coastal Rowing Williamstown were with us also. We can feel the vibe and spirit already.

24.01.2022 Yes it is sad to say that due to a lack of response from the local and broader boating community the South West Regatta is cancelled. This includes the Victorian St Ayles Skiff Championships. However, with a re-focus on Social Rowing the Warrnambool St Ayles Skiff Community Rowing Club is hosting the inaugural Picnic Raid to Jubilee Park. All human powered boats and rowers are welcome. We will depart from Proudfoots Boathouse precinct at approximately 09:00 on Saturday 22nd Feb, the day the Vic St Ayles Skiff Championships was to be held. Participants should bring there own picnic. So here is to social rowing. Having said that we are also looking stage a Skiff regatta in 2021. Stay tuned and watch this space as it morphs into whatever the 2021 event will be.

23.01.2022 Here’s the final Skiff race schedule put together by Kyme Rowe. Great work as always Kyme. Tomorrow’s hot conditions may see some adjustments which will be discussed in the morning during the race briefing. Looking forward to seeing new and old friends on the Hopkins tomorrow.

23.01.2022 Before the heat set in at another successful Victorian St Ayles Skiff Championships.

21.01.2022 Award winning singer and rower Kirsty Watt sings Och Nan Och, Tha Mi Fo Mhulad by Màiri NicÌomhair of Pabaigh at our recent ceilidh in Siabost. Rugadh Màiri Nic...Ìomhair ann an 1841. Ged a rugadh Màiri air Pabaigh, cha robh i ach bliadhna a dh'aois nuair a chaidh an t-eilean fhàsachadh, agus ghluais an teaghlach gu tìr-mòr Leòdhais. B' e "Bliadhnach Phabaigh" a chante rithe. 20.01.2022 The Warrnambool St Ayles Skiff Community Rowing Club is stepping up in terms of some of the organisation and running of the South West Regatta in 2020. Warrnambool City Council are funding the event at a reduced rate in 2020 with a view to Skiff Club being totally autonomous with both St Ayles Skiff and Whaleboat events in 2021. In short if the Skiff Club did not commit to getting the Australian Whaleboat Championships up into the future it would fall by the wayside. It is ...still in danger of doing that unless participation improves as far as crew numbers are concerned. So if you are contenders for skiff or whaleboat event (or both) get in touch with Skiff Club via [email protected] because registrations are open and we are taking them. There will be 'come and try' rowing sessions for both classes of boat. Here is the Stroke Team who do row in both events out for their first row of the season and just ahead of the Upwelling Festival event on Saturday 2 November at Portland.

20.01.2022 Ali, Muhsin and Hafiz, Engineering students from Deakin are optimising the oar design as part of the third Geelong skiff build. They will also field at least one crew in the Victorian St Ayles Skiff Championships. They expect to have the third Geelong skiff launched, equipped with oars and crewed. We hope to see the first two Geelong skiffs and crews down here for a social row soon.

19.01.2022 Australasian Amateur Boat Builder & Kitboat has great coverage from Jonathan Wallis on this year’s South West Regatta and a whole lot of other fascinating St Ayles Skiff news.

18.01.2022 The day was characterised by effort and endurance with outcomes due to the extreme heat not only mitigated by good management but also by the care delivered by Susie Groot as she dispensed cooling refreshments throughout the day. It was great to have your kind touch a feature of the day Susie.

14.01.2022 Vicki Tyrrell’s images encapsulate the vibe associated with the St Ayles Skiff movement and simply getting on the water in a row boat.

13.01.2022 An abridged version of the Championships was held today with only 2 heats instead of the usual 3 before the finals. A good decision given the 39.4 degrees when the finals were run. Regardless, despite trying conditions everyone gave there all resulting in a successful day.

13.01.2022 Dinner and drinks at Proudfoots after the Championships was very well received.

11.01.2022 With all the action and the heat I didn’t manage to take many photos and here’s one of the important ones. F.A.S.T. The stroke recognition message for which Fast Messenger is named and which is depicted so perfectly in the flag created by Jenni O’Meara. Thanks Jen, your creation fluttered proudly all day long.

09.01.2022 The Marlo skiff crew (The Marlo Maniacs) are the first ever Junior crew to compete in the Victorian St Ayles Skiff Championships. We hope to see more junior crews at the 2020 Regatta but be warned just like the Marlo Marauders ( who took out the men’s title ) pictured below, they are great rowers and will take a lot of beating. Thanks for the photos Lorrie Craigie.

08.01.2022 The Victorian St Ayles Skiff Championships 2020 are scheduled for Saturday 22 February.

08.01.2022 Members of the Victoria Police crews training in Fast Messenger ahead of the Victorian St Ayles Skiff Championships as the Stroke Team in whaleboat look on.

06.01.2022 Unfortunately the South West Regatta inclusive of the Victorian St Ayles Skiff Championships has been cancelled. We expect to stage the St Ayles Skiff event in 2021.

05.01.2022 Nice story in the Standard. This year’s Hopkins River Challenge promises to the most hotly contested yet, partly because of the high temperatures but also because the rowers/paddlers have progressively become more serious. Dragon Boat won last year by 3 seconds with the Skiff second (just so you all know, it is accurate to say ‘Skiff’ rather than ‘Skiff Boat’) and Whaleboat bringing up the rear. http://www.standard.net.au//skiff-boat-whale-boat-and-dr/ The above web address for the story mentions the boats in this order: 1st Skiff, 2nd Whaleboat and lastly Dragon Boat. Could this be a prophecy for the finish order of the race tomorrow at 9 a.m. ?

02.01.2022 Skiffs and Whaleboats on the River this weekend.

01.01.2022 How nice to have a flyer as confirmation of an event.
