24.01.2022 To lighten the mood when we return, with apologies to Brenton of course. A band director was having a lot of trouble with one of his drummers. He talked and talked and talked with the drummer, but his performance didn’t improve. Finally, in front of the whole orchestra, he said: When a musician just can’t handle his instrument and doesn’t improve when given help, they take away the instrument, give him two sticks, and make him a drummer.... A whisper was heard from the percussion section: And if he can’t handle even that, they take away one of his sticks and make him a conductor. See more

18.01.2022 Reminder, AGM 7pm tonight!

16.01.2022 The Victor Harbor City Band Committee met this week to consider and plan for a possible return to rehearsals. It is important to note that our plan is subject to any updates and changes from the state or federal government health guidelines. We have developed a Covid Plan that has been approved by council and a set of important guidelines for individual members. In addition we have liaised with the high school via council as we use a shared space. It is important that we ens...ure that returning is safe and that each band member feels comfortable about returning to rehearsals. A letter outlining our plans and requirements will be sent to every band member in the next few days. Members will be asked to respond by 18 July and on 21 July the committee will make a final decision about rehearsal return. Given considered and positive responses to the plan our current intention is to return to rehearsal on 28 July. Thanks to the committee members for their careful discussion and commitment to this matter. Particular thanks to Laura our Secretary for her development of the Covid plan and liaison with local council. Stay tuned. See more

15.01.2022 The best laid plans ...... went awry!!! The committeee planned for band rehearsals to commence on July 28 and most of the band members were pleased with the Covid plan and the clarity about member requirements. It all looked great until ..... We were informed by our insurance broker that the company which had insured us previously was not renewing any band insurance and she was having difficulty finding appropriate cover. As our insurance lapses August 4, and with no guaran...tee of coverage by that date, and the council requirement for us to have insurance, the committee decided to defer return to rehearsal until this insurance issue is resolved. We have also deferred our AGM until September for the same reason. Our treasurer, Pat, is also working hard to find a solution but all insurance companies are under pressure at present. Unfortunately none of this was within our control. All members will be contacted via phone and letter about this matter. Stay tuned as we all hope for better news soon. See more

15.01.2022 Notice of Annual General Meeting. The Victor Harbor City Band will be holding our AGM on Tuesday 22 September at 7.00pm with usual rehearsal to follow. Nomination forms for committee will be available at rehearsals from next week and can be made available via email upon request.

12.01.2022 We are back!!! Put this date in your diary bandmembers and friends. Our first rehearsal back will be at 7:30 pm on Tuesday 11 August 2020 which allows each of us time to prepare and, in these uncertain times, time for council to inform and negotiate with other users of the facility. With our Covid Plan approved and our members agreeing to the conditions surrounding a safe return we have finally resolved our insurance woes thanks to Lyndel's work at Lea Insurance Brokers and ...our Treasurer Pat's hard work. I ask band members to refer to the earlier letter about rehearsals and ensure that you have all the required equipment including 'dribble towels' music stands so that we can begin rehearsals as smoothly as possible. Look forward to catching up with everyone on 11 August 2020 and look forward to our AGM in September and planning for some free public play outs as the weather warms up later in the year. See more

12.01.2022 Official picture of President Allan Phelps receiving the $1000 funding from Stockland as a result of our successful grant application. Our Secretary Laura McLeod should have been in this photo as she put together the application and deserves the recognition and praise for her active and supportive work for the band.

11.01.2022 Getting ready for a possible return to rehearsals

10.01.2022 We're out and about again today. Come down and see us at the Port Elliot Market from 10am-11am!

10.01.2022 Wishing our wonderful Patron, Tom Farmer, all the very best for his 94th birthday. Tom's active and continued support for the band is enormous and much appreciated. Our best wishes to Tom and family as no doubt he'll celebrate in style.

09.01.2022 "They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them."

07.01.2022 We had a fabulous time playing this morning at the Port Elliot Rotary Market! A big thanks to the organisers who are always so accommodating. It's always a real pleasure to share our music with you all

04.01.2022 We're very happy and grateful to have recently won a Stockland grant!

04.01.2022 Our first public performance since the Covid shut down. Less than a dozen rehearsals but the band sounded good, doing what they love. First play out for our newest band member Anne who joined us a few weeks ago from the Campbelltown Band. Ocean Street Markets was the venue and we thank the manager Rob for his excellent organisation and warm welcome. Our next performance will be at the Port Elliot Markets on Lakala Reserve at 10:00am on Saturday 7 November.

03.01.2022 Due to current Covid-19 cases in South Australia, the Victor Harbor City Band are cancelling rehearsals for the next 2 weeks (17 and 24 November). President Allan Phelps and Music Director Brenton Osborne are contacting all members via phone to inform.

01.01.2022 We are not back yet but ........... Please be advised that the Victor Harbor City Band Committee will meet in The Music room in the Rec Centre at 7:30 pm on Tuesday 7 July to discuss the issues surrounding a possible return to rehearsals. Our Covid 19 plan has been approved by council and we have access to our rehearsal venue but we need to ensure that the room, which is a shared space, is suitable and safe for us to use. In addition to this important item we will look at our calendar to investigate any possible safe play outs as well as looking at combined concert possibilities for 2021. If you have any further agenda items please contact our Secretary, Laura or our President, Allan as soon as possible.
