For a broad area of southeastern states winter is delivering damaging winds and squally gusts, possible thunderstorms... and small hail, squally showers (potential isolated heavy rainfalls), snow to elevated areas, and dangerous coastal conditions with big swells. We have issued several Severe Weather Warnings across SA, Vic, Tas and ACT/NSW, check your local area here: http://ow.ly/r9UP50uX4KT and listen to your local emergency services. For our Adelaide community who will experience the first impacts, gusty winds (potentially damaging) will arrive during the afternoon commute. There will be a Road Weather Alert for Adelaide as winds and potential thunderstorms will affect visibility on roads. Motorists please use caution on the road. Keep connected to your local weather and prepare for the chill factor to continue into the weekend (including snow to the alpine regions). 05.01.2022 Severe Weather Warning for DAMAGING WINDS For people in Central, Mallee, South West, North Central, Wimmera and parts of East Gippsland, Northern Country, North East and West and South Gippsland Forecast Districts.... Issued at 4.50am Wednesday 10 July Strong northerly winds developing on Wednesday, gusty cold change following later. A cold front will move over Victoria today, reaching the west of the state mid-late afternoon, central parts in the evening and clearing the east Thursday morning. DAMAGING WINDS, averaging 60 to 70 km/h with peak gusts to 100 km/h are expected to develop about elevated areas (above 800 metres) and coastal parts of western Victoria on WEDNESDAY afternoon, extending to central and eastern parts of the warning area late WEDNESDAY afternoon and evening. Peak gusts of 120 km/h and blizzards are possible about the Alpine peaks in eastern Victoria from WEDNESDAY evening. DAMAGING WIND GUSTS to 90 km/h are also possible about remaining parts of the Southwest district and southwestern parts of the Wimmera district WEDNESDAY afternoon near the front, extending into northern Victoria, West and South Gippsland and remaining parts of the Central district during WEDNESDAY evening. Gusts in these areas are more likely to be associated with showers or thunderstorms. The front is forecast to move to the far east of Victoria by dawn on Thursday, then out to the Tasman Sea. Damaging winds are expected to gradually ease and contract to coastal parts following the passage of the front. Locations which may be affected include Mildura, Swan Hill, Horsham, Bendigo, Hamilton, Warrnambool, Portland, Kyneton, Ballarat, Mt Buller, Mt Hotham and Falls Creek. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Move vehicles under cover or away from trees; * Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony; * Keep clear of fallen power lines;
