21.01.2022 This Anzac Day we will all be forced to stay home. There will be no dawn services, no marches. We will not be standing together as dawn bleeds into the sky, lis...tening to the haunting, bugling notes of the final post. But Anzac Day will come, and it will pass, and we can all ‘remember them’ as we always do. There is a lot of talk about what people might do on the day. The most obvious is to march out to your letter box with your family’s medals and watch the sunrise in silence. Please, if you can, you should do this. It will be a wonderful show of remembrance, just as heart felt, moving and important as any dawn service in history. Perhaps even more so. We all know why this is happening. Our communities are being faced with a massive challenge that will mark our time and passing in this world as keenly as any war. There are people among us who have risen to this challenge and are reminding us what it is to be Australian. And, there are a few among us who are not. If Covid-19 and the financial crash it will cause is the worst thing that we as a nation face in this time, then we are a lucky people. Our country is not asking us to row through cold black waters in leaking boats and hurl ourselves into the teeth of spitting machine guns and towering cliffs. It is not asking us to trek an impassable track and fight a brutal enemy hand to hand. It is not asking us to throw ourselves into the mud and blood in a faraway jungle. It is not asking us to hump packs through a 50-degree desert on seek and destroy missions. So, what is being asked of us? Our country is asking us not to go to the pub or the footy for a little while. To give each other a bit of space and to stay home with our families when we can. It is asking us to look after each other and it is asking us to do this in air-conditioned comfort; with all the food, booze and Netflix we can consume. For what it is, this is the hill on which we must plant our flag, puff out or chests and cry to this bastard virus, ‘You shall not pass!’ This is the only hill we are being asked to climb and although we are being told to hold it at all costs, it’s not that big of a hill all things considered. We all know the coming financial strains will be great, but failing to hold the hill will only make things worse. Despite this nation’s stunning history of gallantry and sacrifice, there appears to be a slight chance that we might fail at this task. That we might drop the flag, quiver at the sight of the enemy and retreat back down the hill into chaos. Sounds unthinkable doesn’t it? So, get up that hill, plant your flag, lift your chin and hold your bloody ground! It won’t be as hard as some people seem to think. We will get through this; life will get back to normal and history will judge us harshly by the way we conduct ourselves. Most importantly, we will be judged by how well we look after the weakest among us. History is unfolding before us and only we can author it. For me, I am one of the last medal mounters in Melbourne. We are a dying breed and the cancellation of Anzac Day services by Covid-19 has hit my business hard. For now, however, I am still here and still working hard to mount family’s precious war medals and supply replica medals for those who need them. If you are looking for help getting yours or your family’s medals remounted or if you are looking for replica medals for that quiet dawn moment in your front yard, drop me a line and I will get it done for you. This might be the perfect year to get those precious medals in order. Stay safe, look after each other and hold the bloody hill. Michael C. Madden Director Berwick Military Medals

15.01.2022 I am thrilled to announce that these 2 new frames are ready for sale. The frames, "Gallantry & Distinguished Service Awards - Vietnam War -" and "Gallantry & Distinguished Service Awards - Modern Warfare -" highlight the stunning achievements of Australian service people since the beginning of the Vietnam War. They show how many gallantry and distinguished service medals they achieved in the field. The number shown on the frames are extraordinary. If you are currently struggl...ing to find enough courage to navigate these difficult days, just read the information on these frames and reflect on the extraordinary work and sacrifice of people who still walk among us today. I am hoping to get these into RSLs beside my larger frames everywhere. They were designed with the help of the supremely talented George Petrou and his team. They are framed behind the highest quality museum glass which is reflection free and UV resistant. Measuring around 1040mm x 500mm, they sell at around $800 each and are made on demand. Lest we forget.
05.01.2022 The 3rd episode of Virtual Battlefield Flyovers is complete. In this episode we fly over Gallipoli, focusing on Anzac Cove. We talk about the disastrous Dardanelles campaign, Albert Jacka VC, MC and Bar and the young digger who made it further inland than any other and later became became Brigadier Arthur Blackburn, VC, CMG, CBE, ED, JP. In this video I wrongly refer to the famous submarine the AE2 as the QE2. Apologies for that. My mind must have been on flying, not telling the story.
02.01.2022 Courage Under Fire is an outstanding military memoir from the inspirational Daniel Keighran VC. Packed with tales of multiple tours, accounts of extraordinary camaraderie, and a reflection on the unseen cost of service. http://ow.ly/gNaS30rgceD
