22.01.2022 Im dubbing it ‘flirty circus’ this seasons spring trends are a mix of bright circus like colours mixed with flirty mellow hues! With these bold colours coming through here are my top tips! Hair- over sized or exaggerated lines = slick tight hair with sweet accessories like pearl clips. Tight lines = fluid hair. ... Makeup- if you’re wearing these tones within your clothing you want your makeup to be minimal barely there! A fuller eyebrow shape but still tailored. If you’re bringing these colours into your makeup pick one and make it a feature! eg a blue liner with no other heavy makeup! skin- with such vibrant colours this spring your skin is going to be were it’s at! clean clear glowing skin with minimal makeup and slight pops of colour will be a focus so make sure you’re taking care of it. 18.01.2022 NAILS! Many of us LOVE having a good set of nails at any time of the year but particularly in the warmer months! So what’s the deal with the different types of nails? Is one better than the other? Qualified Nail Tech Linh, formerly from Sydney and current owner of Envy Nails & Lashes Hobart Recently did a cracking job of a set of SNS for me! She was so knowledgeable and professional I asked her if she would lend us her expertise in answering some questions! Q. WHATS THE DIFF...ERENCE BETWEEN GEL, SHELLAC, SNS & ACRYLIC A. Actually, Gel and Shellac are the same thing, just a different name but the same texture. However, there is a big difference between shellac (gel) & SNS. shellac is only a thin layer of color like a polish flexible polish. SNS is a dipping powder. Linh says SNS lasts longer and is much more popular nowadays. It is healthier and helps your real nails grow longer. ACRYLIC is the hardest material of all the options. It doesn’t help your nails grown and over time can make them quite unhealthy! Q. WILL THESE DAMAGE MY NAILS OVER TIME? A. Linh says all of the nail options need to be removed properly otherwise you can run the risk of damaging your nails! Q. SHOULD I HAVE A REST FROM MY NAIL APPLICATIONS? A.It’s also a good idea to have a break occasionally, particularly acrylic lovers. Linh says the acrylic is slightly porous and absorbs water. Much like water left in a vase too long it can go pretty yucky! So totally removal has its benefits. SNS seems to be the best option for long term use! Q. WHAT TRENDS ARE BIG THIS SPRING? A. We think it really depends on the client. Most of our clients don’t pay much attention to the season. They just do whatever colour and style they like on that day. However if we were to choose flowers and light colour is trending for spring 2020. Awesome info there Linh! I was also really impressed to see that Linh provides all her clients with their own box of tools eg files etc! so every time they return her artists are using tools that have only ever been used on you! I’ve noticed this is definitely a big thing in Sydney with independently owned nail businesses. But something everyone should adopt to avoid any chances of infection of cross contamination! If not your skin is most likely suffering! There are lots of options out there for a nutrient rich diet but if you think you might be deficient in something it’s always best to seek advice from a GP or ideally a naturopath in this instance. Even though you may not have done anything overnight to warrant doing your routine again in the morning, your skin excretes a lot of bodily fluids overnight and repairs itself leaving behind dead skin cells. You were hooked. ... . The packaging is super cute and will totally get you the bathroom, the body and the wardrobe to go with it. . So you spend your last pennies on this MUST HAVE new skincare. It works for a hot minute then something new comes out and... repeat! . The thought of a skin analysis or seeing a professional is totally obscure to most people. I mean why would you? What’s the catch? There must be a catch? They’ll be pushy and all they really want to do is sell you a product right? . Oh darling.... this is all upside down! Social media is great, I love it! But what it has done is make a purchase too easy! It’s shifted our mindset to be suspicious of face to face specialized contact and services when that’s where we should be looking! Just remember we are ALL being sold to ALL the time, there’s no way around it, but investing in a skin therapist ensures that you’re getting the correct information for YOUR skin, not the masses! As a skin therapist I want to provide a tailored service to you, your skin, your lifestyle and your budget! I want your skin to be insta ready in real life, not filter focused because the packaging is luxe and you look cool holding it (don’t worry we’ve all done it) . You won’t see any Cup day/ Racing Day Makeup from us, ever. On a personal note we stand on both sides, Some of us are ok with it some of us aren’t and thats ok! But as Vegan Makeup Artists we at Victoria J Makeup stand against celebrating the use of animals as a sport! ... I hear you... how can some support this in their personal life but not as a MUA, because just like many of us in our careers we adhere to certain rules, regulations and codes of conduct whether we agree with them or not personally but 100% uphold those values within the business framework! We have made the commitment to not use animal products, bi-products or products that have ANY involvement in testing or cruelty so we’d be.. well completely hypocritical if we went and celebrated these sorts of days by applying cruelty free makeup to those attending a sport seen as completely cruel by many! 05.01.2022 IT’S NOT SPRING... I mean let’s face it it’s not any day without lashes!!! I LOVE great lashes! Whether they’re yours, enhanced by a great mascara or falsies I think the make your eyes pop! LASH EXTRAORDINAIRE Steph Kemp from Boutique Brows Hobart had this to say about our most wanted questions! How long do lash extensions last? ... Natural lashes shed and regrow in cycles, on average people loose up to 20% of their lashes every two weeks so it does depend on your growth cycle but Generally lash Extentions can last up to 4-6 weeks, but to keep them full people have them infilled every 2-3 weeks. How important is it to consult with your lash tech about they type of lashes you have? It’s important to do research to find the correct lash tech, they will know what’s best for each individuals eyelash’s, what sort of curl, thickness and length that would suit the client and also their natural lashes with out doing any harm to them. Fo lash extensions really wreck your lashes? If lashes are applied correctly by a qualified lash Technician they do not ruin your lashes, as long as you don’t tug or pull out your lash Extentions as that could damage your natural lashes Do you have less lashes when you have extensions taken off? Lash Extentions don’t ruin your natural lashes or stop their growth or leave them shorter. After having them removed most people get so use to the look of having longer fuller lashes that once they have dropped off it looks and feels different but because your lashes are dropping out and regrowing so often they will still grow the same as they did before Should my extension be sore or hurt? Lash extensions should never hurt, in fact you shouldn’t even feel that they’re there. It might take an hour or so to get use to having lashes for the first time but after that you wouldn’t know. if they are uncomfortable or hurting they have been applied incorrectly and could be touching your skin on your lash line and you should return to your tech to have them fixed. how do you pick a good lash tech? To find a good lash tech always ask for real before and after pictures of clients they themselves have actually done with eyes open and closed. You shouldn’t be able to see the glue where the extension is attached. Don’t be afraid to ask to see their certificates and or qualifications. Ask your friends for referrals to people they’ve been to and loved. And also if it seems too cheap to be true then your probally right. You really do pay for what you get! AMZING TIPS! Thanks steph!
