23.01.2022 A quick reminder that the Bendigo Equine Hospital will be CLOSED tomorrow, 28th of October for the Bendigo Cup Day public holiday.

14.01.2022 You know you’re cute when all the girls want to have their photo taken with you This little spunk came in earlier this week - mostly to get fussed over by the staff! We just couldn’t resist sharing him on here We’d also like to take this opportunity to belatedly introduce Grace (top picture), who has joined our team as a student nurse. Welcome Grace! Also pictured having covid-safe kisses is seasonal intern, Holly.... A little bit of cute to help us all get through Friday!

13.01.2022 Condolences to Josh and his team, and the owners of Super Girl after yesterday.

12.01.2022 GUESSING GAME.... What do you think this may be? The mare is not in foal...

06.01.2022 Farewell Karen, and Welcome Kellie! Today we farewell our practice manager, Karen Patterson, after 5 and a half years with the Victorian Equine group. Karen has been in integral part of taking the Bendigo Equine Hospital and the Victorian Reproductive Centre from small clinics to a thriving business, and we are very sad to see her go. We wish her all the best in her future endeavours! Without missing a beat, we welcome in our new Practice Manager, Kellie Stevens (pictured). K...ellie has an extensive background in business management, and has been truly thrown in the deep end by joining the clinic in the middle of the busy breeding season! Nevertheless, she is already integrating smoothly into the team, and we are confident she will prove to be an asset going forward. Please join us bidding farewell and good luck to Karen, and extending a warm welcome to Kellie!

02.01.2022 We all need a little feel-good video to help us get through a Monday

02.01.2022 AND THE ANSWER IS.... It is a persistent hymen. This is a developmental abnormality of the vagina. In most cases, it is just a thin band of tissue that we rupture when we first manually examine a mares vagina before breeding, or that the stallion ruptures during live cover. In some cases, like this one, the tissue was very thickened, such that it occasionally protruded externally from the vulva (in this case it was seen after urination). It was also thick enough that we needed to cut it out, after which a large amount of mucus drained from the vagina. As expected, the mare has a normal reproductive tract otherwise and we expect normal fertility when it is time for her to start having foals.
