23.01.2022 Increasing your knowledge of fire risk making it easier ti make decisions that could save your life

23.01.2022 When I am training new Burn Bosses I emphasis that if its predictable its preventable. This is to encourage them to think about what might happen and then plan it out so it never occurs. You dont have to be blind Freddy to see the grass growing and realise we will be chasing grass fires this year. So two things we could do. Ask your brigade to show all members the grass fire tactics training video and practice implementation so they know and understand what is expected of... them. Secondly there are 50000 volunteers, why not use them now to implement some fuel reduction in your area to create linear breaks to support work aready being done by the farmers on their property and to get some roadside burning done. I would rather give up a weekend or two now than be chasing fire all summer. All you have to do is be proactive, do some planning, request a strike team or two and make it happen. It is predictable so its preventable See more

14.01.2022 This incredible (and scary) video shows just how fast a bushfire can move, and how massive it can become in under a minute. (Conducted by CSIRO and Queensland Rural Fire Service Bushfire testing) :CSIRO

14.01.2022 The more you burn, the more you bring back the grass, the more you burn the grass, the more the canopy grows. These are all relationships. - Joel Deaves #CulturalFire2019

11.01.2022 I kid you not (excuse the pun) The railways are using goats to reduce weeds and undertake fire protection works at Belgrave station It only took 20 days to clean it up. A company called GrazeAway hires out goats.

05.01.2022 We don't get to choose to have no smoke: "So what can we do, just cross our fingers and hope for the best? Shake our heads when the Valley is filled with smoke ...and sensitive populations like children or those with respiratory disease suffer? Attempt to suppress all fire so we have no smoke? I think there's a better way, but it means accepting a little bit of smoke in the air when it's not fire season. We know how to reduce wildfire fuels with controlled burns during the off-season, during weather that will quickly disperse particulates."
