23.01.2022 Next year's Masters National Championship's locations have just been announced. The Hockey Australia Masters Championships are heading to Queensland in 2020 fo...llowing confirmation that Cairns and the Gold Coast have secured the events. Cairns will play host to the 2020 Australian Masters Women’s Championships from 1-11 July, while next year’s Men’s Masters Championships will be held on the Gold Coast over two separate periods, moving away from the traditional September/October period in order to avoid clashes with the 2020 Masters World Cup events. The 45+ to 75+ age categories for the 2020 Australian Men’s Masters Hockey Championships will be held from 27 June 12 July, with the 35+ and 40+ competitions to take place from 1-10 October 2020. Look forward to seeing everyone in the Sunshine State.

22.01.2022 Our plan is to fly Sunday and have two days of training in Cairns rather than weekly/fortnight training so that all teams have all players in attendance for training. Info day will incorporate some pitch time as well as coach info session with team. This will allow players to focus on their local comp and fitness should be fine as it is in the middle of the main season

17.01.2022 Hi Everyone, Very frustrated! No hockey, no contact with family and friends., too many deaths. Stay healthy, fit & safe, people. A.... A letter of support received from Hockey Australia.. Dear Andrew, Bill and Ann [Andrew Skillern, Bill West and myself] RE: CORONAVIRUS RESTRICTIONS I am writing to you on behalf of Hockey Australia Masters Committee to share our support for the Victorian hockey community (players, officials and supporters). The hockey community is a large part of daily life for many Masters hockey enthusiasts and we understand the difficulty of not being able to participate or to spend time face to face with like-minded people. We hope that players are managing to find some fitness pursuits to keep their bodies limber, and that officials and supporters are finding other activities to keep themselves busy. Those of us who are able to participate in hockey elsewhere at the moment certainly feel very privileged, and imagine that it will not be too much longer before Victorian Masters are able to recommence some sort of hockey activity. Please know that our thoughts are with your Masters members through these difficult times. Yours sincerely Sue Briggs & Norman Same Co Chairs

17.01.2022 Here's some great news for all you young tackers who want to step up a grade and give Masters hockey a go... At the Hockey Australia Masters Delegates’ Meeting ...held recently in Melbourne a change to the age eligibility for HA Women’s and Men’s Masters Championships was confirmed. The Over 35 Championship at each HA Masters Championship will now become the Over 34 Championships. Players who will be 34 years of age by 31 December 2020, that means you were born in 1986, will be eligible to compete The change to the Over 34s Championship will allow selectors to identify players who are able to represent Australia for World Cup or Trans Tasman Challenge international events as an Over 35 player the following year. Better get the old Vampire out of the back shed and get ready for the comeback!

13.01.2022 Hello everyone. We hope that you are doing OK in the current circumstances we all find ourselves in. Remember to reach out to someone if you need help and als...o to reach out to someone if you think they might need help. WMH are currently working with the World Cup 2020 hosts to re-organise the four tournaments into 2021. Initially WMH announced that Nottingham would take place from 6 August to 15 August but it now transpires that the Olympic games will not finish until 8 August. In conjunction with Nottingham we have agreed to move the dates of this tournament. The final agreed dates are 13 August to 22 August 2021. The dates for Cape Town are confirmed as 18 September to 27 September 2021. The Tokyo dates are dependent on the Olympic games plans. We will let you know as soon as we have the new dates confirmed. We appreciate that there are concerns about reorganising travel and accommodation plans. We have produced an open letter to the airlines which we hope might be of some assistance to you when dealing with such issues. You can download that letter here: https://drive.google.com//1V8o0VkZs0uyKZE9IDoOAVzHJl/view Now that the dates are confirmed the Nottingham and Cape Town hosts are working with the chosen accommodation providers and are confident that things will be sorted out to everyone’s satisfaction. It is becoming clear that little or no sanctioned international masters hockey will take place in 2020. The WMH Treasurer has produced the following information on each tournament and nomination extensions. _______________________________________________ SCHEDULE: Revised dates, payment due dates and tournament finalisation Nottingham The entry process was complete and the match schedule released. With the delay of the tournament there is the possibility that additional facilities may be available. This means we could increase the number of participating teams. For those teams who were unable to commit to the original tournament dates but would be able to compete on the new dates, we have opened a waiting list. If you were not originally entered but now wish to be, please send details of the competition(s) you wish to enter together with 300 per team. We will review the situation at the end of 2020 and will advise teams on the waiting list whether they will be included. This selection will be on a first come first served basis. South Africa The entry process had almost finished. To give teams more time to decide, the closing date has been extended to 25th April 2020. As we appreciate that not all teams will be able to commit by this date, we will open a waiting list to the extended closing date of 30th September 2020. During this time teams who have not confirmed their entry by 25th April 2020 and would like to participate, can pay 300 to join the waiting list. We will review the situation on 30th September 2020 and advise teams on the waiting list whether they will be included. This selection will be on a first come first served basis. Tokyo The entry process is due to finish on 30th April 2020 with some teams having already completed the entry process. We have decided that for the World Cup Competitions, we will open a waiting list to the extended closing date of 30th November 2020 during which time teams who have not confirmed their entry by 30th April 2020 and who would like to participate, can pay 300 to join the waiting list. We will review the situation on 30th November 2020 and will advise teams on the waiting list whether they will be included. This will be done on a first come first served basis. After we have completed this stage, we will also consider opening the entry list to certain Competitions. In relation to the Spirit of Masters competition, after conversations with various team organisers, we have decided to be more flexible in this area. We have extended the deadline for submitting entries to 31st May 2020 and have agreed to reduce the initial deposit required to 100. Teams who have paid by then will be assured entry. We have also opened a waiting list to the extended closing date that will require 100 to join. We will review the situation on 30th November 2020 and advise teams on the waiting list whether they will be included. This will be done on a first come first served basis. We appreciate that some Spirit of Masters teams have already paid the original amount of 900. If you wish to discuss this then please contact me at [email protected] _________________________________________________ Stay safe everyone and we look forward to seeing you all soon.

13.01.2022 Just visited Zac at RMH. She seems to be on the road to recovery. She's been through the wringer and seven lumbar punctures, infection, and problems with finding big enough veins for lines to be inserted. Apart from a few weeks off with the fairies , she's back to be able to joke about it all. A.

13.01.2022 Hi all, Following on from the postponement of Sundays trials and the escalating challenges being faced by our community with regard to Coronavirus (COVID-19), both Hockey Victoria and Hockey Australia have today released updates with regard to our programs and events: With regard to the ongoing management of HV State Team trials, all of these are currently POSTPONED.... Once HA has determined a new date for the event, a new plan will be put in place to conduct the team trials. We understand that such an announcement creates uncertainty for everyone. As soon as a new date has been confirmed we will communicate the new plan as quickly as we can. We respect that this changing landscape will present challenges for many. A new date may not suit everyone, whilst for others it may open up a window for them to participate. We will be taking a common sense approach to how we manage all scenarios. Please watch the HV website and social media platforms for future updates. Kind regards Fiona Bloss Hockey Victoria Womens Masters Committee

12.01.2022 As you are aware the trials for the HV Masters women's National Champs are happening this Sunday 14 July at Essendon Hockey Centre. 35, 40, 45 & 50s ready for 8 am and 55,60, & 65s at 9.30 am. Bring a white and a black shirt - NO Vic uniform. Good luck!

12.01.2022 Good morning everyone. Hockey Australia CEO Matt Favier and Hockey Australia Masters Co-Chairs Norman Same and Sue Briggs have releeased the following statemen...t to the State Delegates and Member Associations in regards to the 2021 National Championships and World Cup Dates. " Dear Member Associations and Masters Delegates, This letter seeks to address concerns following the public announcement last Thursday (30 April) on the Hockey Australia Masters Facebook page of the dates for the 2021 Mega-Masters Championships. Firstly, the HA Masters Committee (HAMC) apologise that the dates were made public without providing all available information. Ideally, this information would have been communicated when confirming the dates. We appreciate that the revised dates of the Masters World Cup announced by World Masters Hockey (WMH) specifically the event and age groups scheduled to be held in South Africa now clashes with the dates of the Mega-Masters event. This clash of dates has sparked much conversation and questions among the HA Masters community that as a Committee, we recognise it is important to address. Please also note that we are still awaiting revised dates for the 2021 Masters World Cups that are due to be held in Tokyo. With the release of the Masters World Cup dates, HA and HAMC reviewed the landscape and discussed at length the impacts on the 2021 Mega-Masters. In review of the situation and all known factors, it was determined that we would continue to plan for a 2021 Mega-Masters event to be held in September/October. As you would appreciate, this has been a very fluid and complex matter to navigate which continues to present challenges across the coming phase as we all attempt to implement plans amidst what still remains to be a great deal of uncertainty. Outlined below, are the key areas that have been considered by the HA Masters Committee in arriving at the current position. 1. Players not being available for 2021 Mega-Masters due to Masters World Cups in South Africa There is some initial work being done on designing a draw that will facilitate participants (players, team staff and officials) returning from South Africa and directly attending the Mega-Masters (should they choose to). Where this is not possible, we understand that some new players may be given the opportunity to represent their States/Territories. This may mean there is a reduction in team entries in these age groups in some circumstances. 2. Selection for Australian Masters teams from the 2021 Mega-Masters event Our existing selection policy allows for consideration to be given where players are not available to attend the National Championships due to national representative duties. This will be reviewed and strengthened if required to ensure that no player is adversely affected. 3. Why couldn’t the dates be pushed back 12 months and the same timings kept? There are many factors to this, including contractual agreements with funding partners to deliver this event in 2021, as well as current timelines for the completion of construction works at the Newcastle International Hockey Centre that would not support a July delivery. There still remains a high degree of uncertainty concerning international travel into 2021 and while we hope that travel will be possible, it remains unclear as to when this may be possible. In summary, with typically over 80 men’s and 35 women’s teams attending our National Championships (totalling over 2,300 participants) there are many factors to consider and no perfect solution. We will continue to do everything we can to support our nationally selected teams (Indoor and Outdoor) and guarantee the future of our National Championships (Outdoor) and Indoor Challenges (Indoor). We trust this information provides greater context for this decision. As with everything surrounding COVID-19, we will continue to monitor the situation as developments occur. Meanwhile, HA and HAMC look forward to engaging MA’s and Delegates in plans to confirm 2022-2027 dates and locations over the coming months for advance planning. Kind regards, Matt Favier, Norman Same & Sue Briggs.

10.01.2022 Hi all, Hopefully you will have been notified that all International and Australian Masters championships have been cancelled for 2020. This of course, has been a huge disappointment but necessary during the world pandemic in which we find ourselves. I am on Day 14 of self quarantine after an OS trip. Returning was scary. All very eerie, no exciting expectation of getting home, being confronted by Border Authorities with gloves, masks, and side arms. So clean, clean,cle...an.. lots of gardening, reading, Netflix and quietly exercising. We are relying on deliveries and children to stock the pantry, collect mail etc., all left at the washed, disinfected chair on the front verandah. Hugely distanced.. . The photo is my super clean hockey and tech bags all disinfected. Ready for the call to the field.. Hope you’re all keeping fit, happy and healthy. Times are a bit harrowing, not knowing from day to day what will happen, getting statistics thrown at us. It may be tough for a few months. It may be devastating to some. We are all in this together albeit apart. I consider myself as ‘physically distanced’ not socially distanced. Use the technological devices we have to communicate. Say ‘G’day’ to your neighbours or when you’re standing in the socially distanced line at the supermarket with your basket of vital chocolate Easter eggs. Don’t isolate yourself away during isolation. Please contact me if you need to chat, or need some support. We will keep you informed of further hockey developments. A... #stayhome #staysafe #luvfrontlinepeeps

03.01.2022 While Hockey Australia Masters would have normally announced the locations for next year's National Championships a lot earlier than now, 2020 has proven to be ...a very tricky year. With the three Masters World Cups being run in August, September and November, the September event in Cape Town at the same time as our normal National Championships, we have had to work on running our National Championships at times that will allow players and officials the opportunity to attend as per normal and in locations that make it easy to access in regards to timings, costs and accommodation opportunities. To enable this to happen Hockey Australia have been working with both State and local governments to secure these locations and also funding to ensure that the events take place successfully. The announcements of the locations will hopefully take place this week and we are sure everyone will be impressed with where their respective National Championships will take place. As players ourselves, the Hockey Australia Masters committee understand that there is frustration from our masters community, we wish is could be as simple as every other year but 2020 has proven to be something out of the ordinary and as we move forward we are aiming to be able to announce locations for future years earlier than this year. We sincerely thank everyone for their patience and, as soon as we can announce, look forward to putting on more outstanding National Championships in 2020. See more
